Army: Space Marines
1 Tactical Squad (Alpha)
1 Plasma Gun
1 Bolt Pistol and Close Combat Weapon (vet)
1 Tactical Squad (Beta)
1 Bolt Pistol and Power Weapon (vet)
Staff of Light
2 Warrior Squads
Turn one: The space marines got the first turn, Beta squad moving up through the ruined terrain. Alpha Squad opened fire on the necrons hiding in cover, failing to fell a single one. The commander joined Alpha Squad.
The necrons shot at Squad Beta, felling 2 marines.
Turn two: Beta squad took cover in the ruins and fired at the necrons, failing to kill any. Alpha squad advanced with the commander and was out of firing range.
The necrons shot at squad Beta, killing 3 marines.
Turn three: Alpha squad advanced through cover, firing on the necrons, downing 2. Squad Beta fired at the necrons, not harming any.
The fallen necrons rolled for WWB and one stood up. The necrons shot at Squad Beta, Ending the lives of 2 marines. The lord shot into Squad Beta, killing another one marine.
Turn four: Squad Beta shot at the necrons from cover, knocking two down. Squad alpha charged, and failed to inflict any injury, despite the help of their Commander.
The two fallen warriors made their WWB rolls, one of them rising to its feet. The necrons eliminated Squad Beta and forced the Marines to fall back from combat, where they then charged the fleeing marines and killed 3, losing none despite the Commander's power weapon.
Turn five: The marines again failed to inflict any damage and lost 2 marines in the assault.
The remaining necrons charged, along with the Lord and hacked down 2 more marines.
Turn six: The marines fail to inflict damage, again, because the comander missed every attack. They lost 3 more marines, leaving the Commander as the sole target left on the battle field.
The necron lord hacked down the commander with his staff of light.
Space Marines: Whiped out.
Necrons: Two warriors.
Summary: What the heck happend? In retro spect, I should have left my Commander in squad Beta, and let Alpha do the covering fire, but the failure to inflict damage in Close Combat with the Commander's Power Weapon was unacceptable. Anyone know what happend here? The necrons were in cover for the whole game, and so were my marines.
Well, not to criticize, but you shouldn't charge Necs who are in cover. The ability for them to go first in the assault is too valuable for them since they are repectable close combat fighters. In cover their low initiative is overruled, and SM get hurt pretty bad.
The way the terrain was set up, we decided the charge woulden't count cover as there was a clear path, so I struck first. They didn't actualy hurt me the first phase either. Also, the Necron Lord didn't have a phase shifter and so did not have an invunlerable save.
I don't really play SM, but I can tell you this, when I price up your list, it comes out to 427 points. Did I miss something or did you forget to add something. Next time, you could reduce some of your units numbers and maybe put in a Dread.
As for the not wounding...well sometimes it happens.
Unlucky, u must have rolled bad in that game
We strike like lightning, fast and deadly
In the shadows you will only find death
Yep thats definetly an unlucky result, i find in games around 500 pts its all about luck. You should try playing a larger battle maybe only just 750 pts rematch battle to see if the necron players luck runs out. At least in 750 pts you can have a dreadnought and a tank of some kind, although necrons are brilliant at taking down vehicles...

In 500 pts army, you get lots of bolters, you sit, and then shoot. As soon as they get close, then assault.
thats why you field large numbers of penitent engines 70pts and inquisitorial storm troopers
