The battle is set on a volcanic landscape, with each table quarter containing a fairly large piece of rocky terrain. Fairly basic, symmetrical set up, as we are both just testing out the new codex and using largely proxy armies.
The Khornate forces establish a strong firebase among a rocky outcropping giving their havocs and obliterators a clear LOS to the center of the map, and boldly crowd the center with berserkers and raptors in plain sight. He knows that I will hide my vehicles the first round to protect them from his guns.
The Slaaneshi forces gather behind a large piece of L-shaped terrain, hiding from the guns of Khorne, but ready to rush out at first opportunity.
Slaanesh wins first turn, but opts to go second.
Khorne - All the raptors and berserkers and Lord move their full distance toward their hidden enemies. With the raptors and Lord pulling out ahead of the crowd. The autocannon squad moves to get into a better firing position, as do the Obliterators.
Slaanesh – All three rhinos move from behind cover, the 2 with Sonic Blaster squads forming a wall, with the Vindicator and Lucius’ rhino behind them. Both Sonic Blaster squads disembark behind the wall of rhinos. Both predators move into the cover, neither becoming entangled, each firing a lascannon at the raptor squad, missing one and killing one.
Khorne – The Raptors, Berserkers and Lord draw closer to their quarry, putting the raptors only a few inches out of assault range. The havocs squads and obliterators focus all their fire on a single predator, destroying it.
Slaanesh – Surprised to find my rhinos alive, both empty rhinos move 12” northeast firing their smoke launchers, with the vindicator and Lucius’ rhino taking cover behind them. They are making a wide turn around the right flank of the approaching horde, toward the firebase. The sonic blaster squads unleash their noisy wrath on the raptor squad, destroying them utterly. The Lord, who was hiding behind the raptor squad is now fully exposed. The surviving predator aims its full arsenal at him, and in some rather strange dice rolling, manages 2 wounds from the autocannon.
Khorne - The Lord moves into assault range with sonic blaster squads. The berserkers, realizing the danger to their weak firebase split. One squad pushes toward the noise marine squads, while the other turns north toward the rhinos and vindicator. The obliterators turn their fire to the remaining predator, destroying the lascannon sponsons and stunning it. Both havoc squads focus their fire on the lead rhino, managing to immobilize it despite the smoke. The berserker squad assaults the rear rhino, destroying it with a lucky blow from a krak grenade. The Lord assaults a noise marine squad, killing 7 with his mighty daemon weapon before being cut down by the Aspiring Champion’s power weapon. The squad consolidates by moving a few inches toward the table edge, away from the berserkers.
Slaanesh – Lucius’ rhino rushes out ahead of the pack, firing its smoke launchers. The vindicator turns to face the Berserker squad. Both noise marine squads retreat from the incoming berserkers and fire their assault weapons at them – killing 2 with some poor rolling on both sides. The vindicator scores a direct hit with the demolisher cannon on the berserker squad, killing 4.
Turn Four –
Khorne – The first berserker squad moves closer to the noise marines, not close enough to assault but close enough to rapid fire – finishing off the last 3 noise marines in one squad. The second berserker squad moves and assaults the vindicator (which remained stationary last turn), destroying it with the power fist. The firebase turns its attention to Lucius’ rhino, managing only to stun it with their combined firepower.
Slaanesh – Realizing there aren’t enough turns for Lucius to reach the Firebase now, he disembarks with his retinue and takes cover behind the rhino. The remaining noise marine squad and predator fire on the first berserker squad. 5 Berserkers are killed, leaving the AC and 2 others.
Turn Five –
Khorne – The second berserker squad moves toward Lucius, but gets slowed when they try to move through the destroyed vehicles. The firebase turns its full attention to the predator, destroying it. The first berserker squad assaults the noise marines, 2 Berserkers and 4 noise marines are killed in the melee, leaving the Skull Champion and 6 Noise Marines.
Slaanesh – Lucius and his followers move toward the berserker squad. Their rhino moves between them and the firebase, providing protection. Lucius and his noise marines finish off the second berserker squad in a hail of doom sirens and rapid-firing bolters. In the other melee, the noise marines finish off the Skull Champion before he has a chance to use his power fist.
Turn Six –
Khorne – The obliterators focus their fire on the last rhino, destroying it. The havocs fire at the surviving sonic blaster noise marines. Killing 4, leaving only the AC and a blast master.
Slaanesh – Lucius and his followers move into the northwestern table quarter, claiming it. The noise marine with the blast master fires on one havoc squad, but fails to kill anything. The game ends.
Khorne – 1025 (for destroying one and a half noise marine squads, 2 predators, 3 rhinos and a vindicator)
Slaanesh – 1325 (for destroying 2 berserker squads, a raptor squad and a chaos lord, and holding an adjacent table quarter).
My Thoughts – Despite coming out slightly ahead in victory points, largely because I held a table quarter, I feel like this was a defeat. Had the game gone on longer, his firebase would have easily destroyed my remaining troops. Lucius’ rhino could definitely use extra armor (I believe if it had, I could have reached his firebase with 2 turns to spend slaughtering the havocs, otherwise I would have only 1 turn and decided it would be better to kill the berserkers and claim a quarter). I could have made much better use of the vindicator, which did almost nothing. Had I stuck it out early on, it would have drawn a round of fire from the havocs, probably killed a few more of his troops and allowed my rhinos to reach the havocs. The predators basically only functioned as fire magnets because he had no armor, and that’s fine with me. I am overall pretty happy with my army set up, his army could use a little more mobility, I think.
Nice report! Clear and easy to read..sounded like a great battle as well. Good luck with future reports!
how can you move and rapid fire in the same turn????Khorne – The first berserker squad moves closer to the noise marines, not close enough to assault but close enough to rapid fire – finishing off the last 3 noise marines in one squad. The second berserker squad moves and assaults the vindicator (which remained stationary last turn), destroying it with the power fist. The firebase turns its attention to Lucius’ rhino, managing only to stun it with their combined firepower.
When you move you can ONLY rapid fire a bolter at 12". Pistols you can only double-tap when standing still.
so if you move you can still shoot twice with a bolter ????
and bezerkers can't use bolters
after all. they are there for the Blood God :ballon:
great report! loving it.

Yeah, that was a slip up by both of us, I suppose. Neither of us use bolt pistols very often (does anybody??). Oh well.
