    1000pt Tyranid Vs Necron

Here is a battle report. It was both players first proper game using a mission type etc.

See the attached jpgs for a visual representation after each turn finished.

    Firstly The Set Up:

It was a Cleanse mission that was rolled so the table was divided into 4 quarters. There were two tank farms and the spaceship wreckage from the Maccrage set. We were playing on quite a small table, but we didn't really have enough terrain.

    Army Lists:

    Hive Fleet Ouragan:

Hive Tyrant (enhanced senses, Toxin Sacs, TL-Devourers)
2x Guard (Scything Talons, Rending Claws)

Warriors x3 (enhanced senses, extended carapace, toxin sacs, TL-Devourers)

    Spinegaunts x10
    Spinegaunts x10
    Spinegaunts x9
    Termagaunts x12

Sniperfex (enhanced senses, reinforced chitin, Venom Cannon, Barbed Strangler)
Sniperfex (enhanced senses, reinforced chitin, Venom Cannon, Barbed Strangler)
    Zoanthrope x2 (Synapse, Warp Blast)

    Necron:

    Necron Lord (res orb)
    Warriors x10
    Warriors x10
    Destroyers x3
    Flayed ones x4
    Wraith x2
    Heavy Destroyer x2
    Scarab Swarms x5

    Deployment: See Image

First Turn: I won first turn roll.

I advanced most of my army across the board, only the sniperfex stayed put.
The Crons moved a little, started getting his CC units headed towards my lines.

    Nid Shooting:
    Fex1, shot and missed!
    Fex2, kills a destroyer.
Warriors make a destroyer lie down.
I used Fleet on three troop squads to get them up towards the Crons faster.

    Cron Shooting:
Warriors1, kill 4 Termagaunts, one armour save was made,
    Warriors2, killed 4 spinegaunts
Heavy Destroyer1 shoots and wounds Zoanthrope2.
Heavy Destroyer2 shoots Tyrant and misses.
Destroyers shoot and kill a Warrior.

Second Turn: First turn was the armies in motion and firing off whatever they could, not that much happened.

The shooty Crons stayed put and created firing lines, whereas the CC crons continued to close the gap.
The Nids again all moved except for the fex.

Nid Shooting: The template weapons really excelled and made this a very good phase for the Nids!
Spinegaunts1 shoots Scarab swarms, one lies down.
Tyrant shoots Scarabs, two more lie down.
Zoan1 blasts Warriors1 and makes 5 lie down!
Sniperfex1 shoots Warriors2 and kills 7 and puts a wound on the Necron Lord!
Sniperfex2 shoots flayed ones, kills one.
Warriors shoot at Wraith2, it saves all five wounds.
    Zoan2 hits and wounds Wraith1
    Nid Assault:
Spinegaunts1 charge Scarabs, cause one wound which is saved.

    Cron WBB Roll summary:
    Scarabs, all failed, 3 dead
    Wraith1 failed.
    Warriors1, 4 fail, 1 gets back up.

    Cron Shooting:
Warriors1 shoots and kills 2 Termagaunts
Heavy Destroyer1 shoots and kills Zoan2
Heavy Destroyer2 shoots and misses sniperfex1
    Warriors2 shoots and kill 2 spinegaunt2
Destroyers shoot spingaunt2 and kill 1 more
    Cron Assault:
Wraith2 charges termagaunts, 2 termagaunts die but drag the Wraith down in return
Scarabs vs Spine1, 2 wounds put onto scarabs, Spine make save against return wound.

Third Turn: A combination of great turn 2 shooting for the Nids and some poor WWB rooling for the Crons gives the upper hand to the hungry bugs!

Movement in turn three was basically units getting into charge ranges, or altering position to get better firing/cover options.

    Nids shooting:
Spinegaunt2 shoots Warriors 2, all wounds saved.
Tyrant shoots Warriors1, 8/9 wounds saved! One goes down.
    Sniperfex1 takes down Heavy Destroyer2
    Sniperfex2 annihilates last destroyer.
Warriors take down 3 flayed ones.
    Nids assault:
Scarab vs Spine1 = Spine1 cause 2 wounds, one scarab down. Scarabs cause one wound, spinegaunt dies.

    Cron WBB Roll summary:
Flayed ones, 2 get up, 1 stays down.
    Scarab gets up
    Warrior1 gets up
    Heavy Destroyer2 gets up.

    Crons Shooting:
Warriors1 shoots and kill last 4 Termagaunts.
Heavy Destroyer1 shoots and wounds a Tyrant Guard
Warriors2 shoot and kill one spine2 member.
Heavy Destroyer2 shoots and misses Tyrant Guard
    Crons Assault:
Flayed ones charge spine2, cause one death. In return spine2 take down both remaining flayed ones.
scarab vs spine1. scarabs take down one more spine1 member.

Fourth Turn: Some good WBB rolls in the third turn has given the Crons some hope and has delayed a phase out.

I continued to charge with my tyrant and guard...If I couldn't force phase out then I wanted my adjacent quarters clear of enemies! The Crons were digging in and trying to hold out.

    Nids Shooting:
Tyrant shoots Warriors1, downs 3 of them.
Sniperfex1 shoots Necron Lord, causes another wound.
Warriors shoot Warriors2, downs two warriors
Sniperfex2 shoots Heavy Destroyer2 and Necron lord, both save.
    Nids Assault:
Spine2 vs Flayed, all wounds saved
Tyrant charges Warriors1, destroys the three warriors that are still standing after being shot.
Warriors charge Flayed ones, 3 wounds saved.....These flayed ones are proving troublesome!

    Cron WBB Roll summary:
    Warriors2 failed, both stay down.
Warriors1 passed, all three get back up.

    Cron Shooting:
    Warriros2 shoots Zoan, wound saved.
Both Heavy destroyers shoot at sniperfex each, both fail to hit.
    Assault Crons:
Warriors1 engae Tyrant, 2 warriors destoyed outright, one goes down.
Scarabs vs spine1, spine1 cause 3 wounds, another scarab goes down, scarabs cause one wound which is saved.

    *********************************************
It was here that my Necron opponent was checking out the phase out rule and we realised it was based on model numbers rather than points value (which is what we were doing) so at this point he phases out and the nids get a victory in their first outing!
    *********************************************

MVP: For me was the tyrant and sniperfex1, but MC's always perfrom don't they? If it was a non MC MVP it would go to Spine1 squad for rumbling with the scarabs for most of the game, they sat in the middle of the battlefeild and did their best to finish the scarabs off, but they kept passing their WBB rolls.

Overall: It was our first game. We both had fun and enjoyed ourselves, we still have alot to learn and I think the tactics need to be looked at from both sides. The Necron lord didn't move at all really and I had a whole sqaud of spine gaunts that did nothing! But maybe if the game went a different direction they may of been needed.

Comments are welcome as we are both still new.

A note for next time, Scarabs don't get WBB and don't count towards Phase Out (I don't know if you included them, but if you were giving them WBB I assumed you may have been counting them for PO as well).

Ahhhh so those pesky Scarabs shouldn't of got back up!

We weren't counting them towards phase out, but they were getting WBB rolls, ah well good to know for next time.

From my experience 'nids have a extremely high win ratio against Necrons, they just don't have solid ways too deal with many things in Tyranid list. But a cool battle report (I'm a former nid player) good job on the victory

Congratz on the win! Im a new nids player also but havnt had a game yet. I should get my first one in when my friend assembles his tau or tomorrow at GW.

    One thing though

Warriors1, kill 4 Termagaunts, one armour save was made,
Im pretty sure the termagaunts shouldnt have been able to make armour save because guass flayers are ap 5.

Good win against the necrons. Ive found that sneaking some stealers around terrain and up the flanks can work well. Congrats!:drinking:

Just a note, by playing on a table not at least 4'x4' gives assault armies the advantage, just like playing on a table more than 4' wide gives shooting armies more of an advantage. You should try again on a 4' x 4' or a 6' x 4' and see how that goes.

The table wasn't proper size...i.e. 6x4. But it was big enough to create an even game. I think maybe the choice in deployment quarters made the biggest difference as there was limited terrain on the table. My opponent chose first and took his corner which left me with the more favourable quarter due to the lander wreckage all around me

I think my opponent made more mistakes than I did... from quarter selection to bunching his guys against template weapons to not moving his necron lord etc. Which also tipped the balance. However, it was first game for both of us....so i'm sure we both learn't plenty.... I know I did!

    We both made some mistakes.

    We both learnt alot.

We both had an awesome fun time though and we can't wait for our next game!!!! And that's one of the reasons I started up this hobby, was to have some fun.... so success all round I say.

Would any of you make any changes to either list for the rematch game?

you should get some genestealers into the list the rending can really help
the necron player should put a monolith into his list, and when playing against nids he should alwayes have a veil of darkness
