1750 Machines of the C'Tan vs. Cadian 815th

The sky was darkened from the billowing smoke of the tank engines as the Cadian 815th crawled across the rocky plains of Bruceinus II. The troopers walked cautiously across the rocky landscape next to their trusted Leman Russ and Chimeras.

Dry baked dirt cracked and separated as strange creatures began to rise from unearthly tombs. Machines, with metal skulls for heads, and wires and plates of livnig metal began to come forth. Dozens at first, then larger ones, stronger ones began to emerge. A small cave system opening to the platoons flank opened and more of the metal beings poured forth in their zombie like incessant approach.

Men ran for cover, they began placing sandbags, forcing their troops to put their guns down to build emplacements and prepare a firing location for their heavy weapons teams. The metal alien creatures were not running at them like green skinned animals, or shouting chants and curses from the chaos gods. They simply...walked forward.

The platoon began to form up firing lines as the tanks began to spread out, maximizing their firing coverage. The earth shaker took the far left flank and hunkered down behind a large rocky cliff face. Its crw began preparing to fire indirectly. The veterans ran out ahead, skulking and infiltrating on the other side of the battlefield's flank. Hiding behind terrain, dangerously close to the skeletons which only had half a body. The other half was a flat floating anti grav type of skimmer. Some had long deadly glowing guns for arms, while the others had thicker, triple barreled guns coming from their elbow.

The command squad shouted orders into the communicators, issuing orders down both sides of their firing lines. His platoon of Guard were hiding in the cover of the rocky outcroppings, and The commander scowled as he could almost hear his men's rifles shaking apart from the men themselves shaking in fear.

The air was filled with smoke and fire as the line of Leman Russ and the Earth Shaker cannon of the Basilisk fired into the midst of the approaching machines. Some fell over and blew into pieces. One of the hovering long guns shuddered, but took the blast without incident, the shot scattering. Heavy weapons fired as lascoannons freemed across the rocky terrain hitting the machines but having no effect.

THe men of the 815th began to doubt their faith as they just watched the machines come forward, not stopping.

As the necrons crossed the battlefield, those few unlucky machines who were in peices began to pull themselves back together, only one unable to do so. The one long armed Skimmer turbo boosted faster than any Imperial Guard tank could and crossed more than 2/3 of the distance to....THE BASILISK. Dozens of small floating creatures that resembled metal scarab beetles surrounded the skimming necron. The "scarab" machines turbo boosted when the long gunned skimmer did. Both units seemed to find cover within a rocky outcropping. The same outcropping the basilisk was hiding behind just on the other side!

Two groups of the walking machines ambled foreward, both counting fifteen in mass each. a Lone machine stood near the back of the machine mob. Wearing a tattered robe and wielding a small orb, he walked forward behind the two units, staying between them both and seemed to spur the two units foreward.

The Guard of the 815th blinked as a large skimmer wielding a sycthe like staff, and a small unit of the machines blinked from existance. In a heartbeat the skimmer and his small squad of robotic, double-barreled hunched machines appeared beside the veteran squad. As they appeard almost next to a wall, they numbered one less, probably lost to the warp. The machines immediately opened up rapid firing into the suprised cveteran squad.

Three snake bodied machines, with huge talon like metal claws slithered their way through the field. Passing through the rocky terrain like wraiths, they moved close to an infiltrated veteran squad. Two sets of three skimmers moved up from behind terrain, popping up in line with a chimera and a Russ, which was next to the command squad.

One of the long barreled skimmers fired into the russ's front, penetrating it, but merely shaking the driver and gunner.

The one group of three trid to aim at the chimera, but their logic circuits told them to aim at the infiltrated squad mere inches from them. Five veterans fell in the hail of triple shots from the skimmers. three of them rended through armor and left gaping gauss holes.

The remaining veterans thought to run, but gritted their teeth and stood their ground, being found this early only angered the men of the Imperium...

...but it was not their day to live.

The wraith like creatures swooped in and cut them men down before they could react. Their blood stained the talon claws as the wraith looked foreward, seeing another two squads behind sandbags. The wraiths floated closer to them after the massacre of the veterans.

The skimmer and his Immortal guardians killed the remaining veteran squad down to two men, who grabbed their buddy's lascannon and attempted to prepare to fire it. The double barreled machines growled a digital sound through an emotionless metal skull at the men of the 815th.

The guardsmen tried valiantly to fire back and return death into the machine ranks. The basilisk lowered it's velocity and fired short into the neighboring terrain, killing three groupings of the scarab machines, but the long-barreled skimmer persisted to survive.

The russ and it's demolisher cannon scattered four of the approaching warrior type machines, and this time two stayed down. THe second group began to scale terrain. Not so much as using it for cover, but because it was in their way, and logically, it was th quickest route to the fleshbags.

Two died in in trocks from the other Russ and it's battle cannon. The chimeras multi laser took out the other long barreled skimmer, next to the twin squads of three. putting it back to sleep on the sands forever.

Tge wraiths launched a counter attack as the men in the foxhole fortifications fired into them. Their lasguns went through them without harming them at all as their snake bodies brought them into striking range of the squads of Guard.

THe two squads of triple barreled skimmers floated closer to the edge of the rocky terrain and fired into the basilisk and the Russ separately. Both machines were stunned as the driver and the gunner were knocked around from gauss fire, glancing through the armor. half a dozen times each!

The scarabs swarmed the basilisk, trearing holes into the armor, their strange metallic bodies seemed to move, as if living. The Lone long barreled skimmer fired into the basilisk's front armor, penetrating it, and stunning the crew. The long barrels of the Cadian 815th were all silent.

Wraiths swarmed through the guard, trearing flesh from bone, shedding men of their skin and muscle as if clothing. Once they finished one squad, they tore into the next one, sweeping through into the heavy weapons crew.

The guard scattered. they hopped from vehicles and ran. Leaving tank and cannon and gun alike, lying on the field, taken back by the machines of the C'Tan. Living flesh would know loss this day, and the guard swore the planet cursed by living machines.

Never again would those survivors think men were superior to machines.

((IC player quit turn three, stunned all his tanks, two warrior squads were in rapid fire range to his command squad and one normal group/platoon whatever. Scarabs were eating a basilisk, and Immortals and destryer lord with warscythe in his DZ.

The wraiths massacred two squads in two turns, and tied a third up by round three. The heavy destroyers did NOTHING but stun a basilisk, but the normal destroyers stunned EVERYTHING.

Destroyer lord and immortals killed vet squad and half another platoon/group whatever before getting killed by return fire down to two immortals and the lord with one wound left. damn template weapons

All in all the guard player NOW knows how Necrons are in the hands of someone who plays them correctly. He said "the last guy he played with necrons against, didn't use them right"....*shrugs*.

    All in all, crushing victory.))

Nice narrative, very solid writing and entertaining. Too bad that the game went so smoothly, not for you but just because tense games are more fun to play and to read. Imp guard and tau just don't do that well against Necrons for some reason. Probably all the ap 4 and 5 shots they get to pound into any poor flesh squad in range in addition to being able to destroy any tank with any unit(although this looks to be nerfed in the next ed.) Nice job, although I would like to see an army list up for either side.

When i played Necrons before i raped them with Lasguns. I think they had put magnifying glasses infront of them. Still, nice report mate, a good read.

Hm, any new ETA for these army lists? :) I sure would like to know what the two sides exactly brought to that battle (being a Necron Player facing IG a lot, myself ;) )
