This is a list/battle report in one. I have not yet faced my opponents, but the coming match is soon so... Just wanted to post this.

Alright.. so now I have my Tau army ready for combat. I have the chaotic as my ally ina 2500 point game (we split 1750 pts each). He has some really uber stuff, not to mention I am painting his defiler at the moment. Now to get to the point: I will be fighting against 500 pts of Necrons and 2000 points of Black Templars. And we have a 6 foot by 3 foot table to play on. I really want help, because I REALLY dont like that Monolith. Here is my list so far:

    HQ
Shas'o Pao'Shan - Plasma Rifle, Missile Pod, Multi-Tracker, Hard Wired Drone controller (2 Shield Drones)

    Total cost = 140 pts

    Elites
Shas'ui Crisis suit - Plasma Rifle, Missile Pod, Multi-Tracker

    Stealth Suit Team Alphamorius
Shas'vre AO - Drone Controller (1 Shield Drone)
    Stealthsuit
    Stealthsuit

    Total cost = 115 pts

    Troops
    Shas'ui Team Leader
    Shas'la Fire Warrior x 11

    Shas'ui Team Leader
    Shas'la Fire Warrior x 11

    Shas'ui Team Leader
    Shas'la Fire Warrior x 3

    Team Leader Savoron
    Fire Warriors x 6
(This squad is mounted inside of a Devilfish Troop Carrier)

    Devilfish Troop Carrier

    Total cost = 420 pts

    Fast Attack
    Gun Drone Squadron x 10

    Total cost = 120 pts

    Heavy Support
Broadside Leader Izual - Multi-Tracker, Drone controller (1 Shield Drone)
    Broadside Shas'ui Arcturus

Hammerhead Gunship "Thunder Cruiser" - Seeker Missile, Railgun, Smart Missile System

    Total cost = 350 pts

Piled up complete total points = 1250

And now for the second half..
Well, the terrain is huge, so naturally were going to be transporting many troops out. I wanna keep mine back for now, but I might decide differently, later on in the game.
My ally, the chaos player, has a wide variety of models.

And since he is Undivided, he has taken a peice from nearly all of the 4 chapters of Chaos, and built his army. He has about 40 men, a Defiler, Daemon Prince, Khorne Berserker, Chaos Land Raider, a squad of bikers, and a dreadnought. He has won many times with this list, and he plans on winning this time through aswell.

He wont be using that full list, but most of it. The plan for me is simple, to eradicate as many opposing forces as possible, and any big threats, so he can meat cleave them. But I want a better strategy, considering that we will be playing 5-10 hours in this game since the board is so darn big. I am hoping for a good turn out. If theres any criticism, please let it be constructive, .

    Edited the List Appropriately

OK firstly the maths is confusing me, you are playing 2500 points per side, but you and our ally have 1750 each, I hate to tell you this but 1750+1750>2500
then you list an army with 1500 points, even then 1500+1500>2500

anyway, how to take out a monolith:

First point, he is playing with a monolith on 500 points of necrons?

!. illegal, since it is not 400 points he must use the full force org chart, a HQ (cheapest being a lord at 100 points) and 2 troops (2 5 man warrior squads cost 90 each, giving 280, add the cost of the monolith and you are already over 500 points

    2. easy, if he has 500 points and he is using a monolith, that means he only has <250 points of warriors, even if he doesnt use a lrd, he can only have 12 warriors, which means his whole army, including the monlith, phases out if you kill 9 warriors.
This is the way to beat necrons. Phase them out, the monolith will either start too far back to do alot of damage or will deep strike, with an army of this size, you can easily phase it out before the monolith gets chance to appear

    3. heavy weapons, anything Str8 or above can damage it
Everything you have been told is a lie!

the actual MATH is right but you got wrong stats. warrior squads are 10-20 thuis in a using standard FOC's the minumum point cost is 460 pts. so he can either have in addition:
    2 warriors
    3 scarabs
or various wargear. a res orb takes all 40 pts up.
Necron will stand for eternity.Their race has survived aeons by trading their very souls for metal bodies. Now, they will live on through eternity and will vanquish all life from our universe. For they are Necron. Flesh is weak. The machine will rise!

Alright yeah, I completely screwed up the points cost etc etc sorry about the confusion.
1250 pts per side, so my list will be edited to make it to that. The Necronic player will use his Nightbringer, and he has I think 2 scarabs now. He has 4 Immortals etc etc.

And I do think that my Broadsides will take out that big peice of tank.

....and a nightbringer and a monolith is 595 points...

Anyway if you face one, you don't need to be afraid. Tau is one of the shootiest armies out there, with a lot of railguns and the like. The problem with Monolith (at least for a Daemonhunter like me) is that you can't use chainfists/meltaweapons (or fusion blasters for you) very effectively, and I can't take Lascannons except on landraiders and dreadlords.
You, on the other hand, have long range-high str weapons in abundance, and therefore should be out off harm.
And remember, your 1250pts chaos friend (death to the heretics!) probably have some nifty heavy weapons too... one monolith in 2500 pts isn't that big off an obstacle (well, litteraly speaking it is but...=)

The nightbringers sux though... can chew you upp three times over. but as always if you shoot it to pieces before it comes close that's a big chunk of your enemies forces off the chart.

    Anyways have fun.

Ignore the C'tan and the Monolith. Although the C'tan can do massive damage once it reaches CC you must remember it is quite slow moving.

Concentrate all your fire on the guys with the Necron special rule (that is the Warriors, Lords, Destroyers, Immortals, Flayed Onces) force the Necron player to phase out and suddenly the big nasty models dissapear.
