Hi everyone, I was at GW today and was challenged to a small game by another costumer at the store. I didn’t have my entire collection so I put together an army with what I had off hand. It was a 560 point kill squad match… I’m not too familiar with game types. The one were you get a point for each squad killed. The lists were as follows:
Farseer: Runes of Witnessing, Spirit Stones, and Guide- 105pts.
10 Dire Avengers: Exarch w/power wep., shimmer shield, Defend- 159
6 Warp Spiders: Exarch w/extra deathspinner and powerblades- 159
Dark Reapers: Exarch w/ Fast Shot- 137
Space Marines-Him (not sure about the spec.)
Commander: I think he had a power wep. or claw
5 Terminators: Leader w/power wep. (they all had storm bolters… not sure if that’s standard or not)
10 Scout Marines: w/sergeant
5 space marines: w/sergeant and plasma cannon and krak missile launcher
5 space marines: w/sergeant and multi melta
The game was played on a 48” board in length and much longer in width (we stuck to the right half of the board). The terrain was as such, two lines of trenches facing each other parallel and one twisting trench way to his left and my right. In the middle of the board was an open field with two craters which we counted as difficult terrain with a 4+ cover save. If you were firing down into the trenches it was counted as a 3+ cover save.
Deployment: He won deployment.
He deployed the terminators as far forward in the trenches as possible, with the commander to their right. Farthest back were the squad of Space marines with the cannon, they were out of the trenches. In front and to the left of them was the other five man marine squad and to their left was the 10 man scout squad.
I deployed my Dark Reapers on the field behind the trenches opposite the Termies. My Farseer was next to them behind a wall. In the trenches in front of them was my DA all with LoF across the field. My Warp Spiders were on the field in front of the trenches behind a wall.
Movement: Everything but the one squad with the cannon move up, and the termies begin to move through the trenches to the right.
Shooting: Very uneventful the cannon fires at the spiders and scatters off the board. All other units run.
Movement: Nobody moves.
Shooting: The farseer casts guide on the Dark Reapers who then fire on the advancing squad of 5 marines with the multi melta killing 3.
Movement: Same as last turn with the one squad staying back. Termies go through the trenches
Shooting: Again nothing in range except for the cannon which fires on the spiders and scatters away harmlessly. Everybody else runs forward except the squad in back. The commander is now nearing my front lines. While the squad with two remaining members stays in the crater nearest my opponent.
Movement: My spiders jump out of cover 8 in. to fire on the approaching 10 man scout squad. My DA back up a little away from the edge of the trench into a lowered clearing area of the trench.
Shooting: My farseer again guides the Dark Reapers who fire on the squad with two men again causing no casualties. My spiders unload on the approaching scouts brining them down to one man, and then jump back behind the cover of the wall (rolled a 9 on the 2D6).
Movement: Same as last time everybody moves up except for the one 5 man squad and the diminished 5 man squad. The termies burst out of the tightly packed trench corridor into the trench clearing.
Shooting: The cannon fires and does nothing, and the termies fire their storm bolters on the Dark Reapers wiping them out.
Movement: The spiders move up next to the crater about 3in. to the left of the last remaining scout. Farseer moves left 6in.
Shooting: Farseer casts guide on the DA. The Dark Reapers fire on the termies causing no wounds. The DA fire on the commander killing him, and the spiders fire on the remaining scout wiping him out.
Movement: The Termies waddle forward towards the Dire Avengers, and the squad with the multi melta moves forward as well.
Shooting: The multi melta fires on the Dire Avengers killing three. He fires the cannon at the spiders and kills two.
Movement: The Spiders move forward towards the two remaining squad members of the diminished marines. The DA move toward the Termies.
Shooting: The farseer casts guide on the DA who fire on the termies killing one. The spiders shoot the marines killing none.
Assault: The DA charge into the termies killing one more and taking no casualties thanks to poor dice rolling on his part and the combo of an invul. and his reduced attacks. The spiders move into combat with the two marines and the exarch uses his blades to snip them in half.
Movement: Nobody moves the termies are in combat and the squad in back stays where it is.
Shooting: The 5 man squad fires its cannon and krak missile on the spiders who take one loss.
Assault: The Termies kill another two DA with no casualties of their own.
Movement: The spiders move up next to the marines squad. The farseer runs away from the cc in the trenches.
Shooting: The spiders open up on the marines and kill 3.
Assault: The DA take another hit and lose one man but the exarch returns the favor by killing the termie sergeant. The spiders crash into the two remaining marines and kill them both consolidating into the trenches in the enemy deployment zone.
Turn Six: The game continues!
Assault: The two remaining termies cut down an other elder and it seems as though the Dire Avengers will have died to protect their fleeing commander… when out of the glory of battle the Exarch leads his two remaining companions in a flurry of blades that somehow find the small slits in the armor of the Space Marine Terminators, the emperors finest, to show the Humans who really rules the galaxy. (He had been having horrible luck the entire game and when he rolled two ones for armor saves it just brought home how much you should pray to the dice gods)
After game thoughts:
This game really wasn’t that fun for me, I’m not new to the game in knowledge but I have only fought 4 battles this being my fourth. I love Dire Avengers and they more than made back their points as did the spiders. The DA couldn’t have done it with out the Farseer. I know it was pure luck but I love shimmershield, power weps., and defend. They proved themselves and I will be taking them more often. I didn’t like the Dark Reapers in that small of a squad I will have to take a five man squad and see if that works better. I know I can’t put that much credit into this game due to the dice being so heavily in my favor but I would still like comments on things you guys think I could have done better.
Thanks in advance,
with your farseer
Why spirit stones? you only have on psychic power and cant cast it twice in one turn.
and you cast not shooting psychic powers before movement phase not in shooting.
Other then that good work, ive never used defend and the shield for avangers, as bladestrom does far more without the problem of being attacked back.
maybe take bladestorm ontop and you will be ready for anything, if not a little expensive.
