So I was digging around some of my old files on my computer, and I came across some pics of an Apocalypse game we'd had down at our GW shop a while back. These are from 4th ed, before any of us even knew 5th ed was coming out any time soon. In fact, I don't remember too many details of the game itself, and I've even forgotten some of the general bits. For instance, I can't remember just how many points were thrown down per side, I think it was something along the lines of 60,000.
The game was invitation-only, and it was after-hours. We started at 90 I think, and we wrapped up at midnight about halfway through turn 3. We all got tired. So, without further ado: Some Old Apocalypse Game.
George (Tau) <- That's me!
Joe (Ultramarines) <- He was our cameraguy.
James (Imperial in general) <- Brought a Flier and several super-heavies to the game... Gotta love staff members!
Dar (Space Puppies) <- Yes, he did. He's rather bald.
Ben (Tyranids) <- A good ol' Brit what likes to bring way too much to his Apocalypse games. And that's why we love him!
Sam (Chaos) <- That'd be Ben's brother, also rather British. He brought slightly less, but some of the best-painted models on the table. He took an Honourable Mention in the Baltimore Gamesday youngbloods for his Valten model. Oh, did I mention that Ben and Sam's dad was the man who invented Sigmar? Our store has such bragging rights for that.
Rick (Tyranids) <- Can't match Ben's army yet, but he's pretty close. Another old baldy, minus the old.
Other Rick (Orks) <- I'm simply referring to him as Other Rick because I listed the Nids Rick first by accident. He certainly brought as much as anyone this game, causing for a rather large chunk of green on the other side of the table!
Someone I don't know (Chaos, apparantly) <- I have no idea who this guy is... I don't recognize him at all. The only reason I know he plays Chaos is because the Bloodthirster pictured doesn't belong to any of us whom I've already named. Either way, I think he may have been on our side (there was some Bloodthirster vs Carnifex action towards the end of the game!)
Brett (Manager) <- The man running the event. He did a good job on the whole, it was a very enjoyable match.
Other James (Knives) <- This guy scares me. All the time. Whatever though, he was not too hostile during the game, so what can I say?
This was the staging table for the Tyranids (and a very few of the Orks). There were 2 Nid players here - this represents only one of them, Ben. The other, Rick, though he couldn't match Ben point-for-point or model-for-model, wasn't too far behind.
This is the view from the Bridge between the tables (I think we used four tables and three bridges, though it may have been only 3 tables... I know the forces of "good" used at least a whole table to deploy, and the "evil" used 2). Again, you certainly don't see all the Tyranids, but they fell short of their bid and ended up not being able to deploy everything anyway. Also, much of what they had was kept in reserve on purpose.
Our resident Chaos Marine player (Sam) had brought his Death Guard to this game. Though he doesn't play them a lot anymore, he was pretty big into them. Notice how his Plague Reaper looks so much like a fly? These are all just establishing shots. There is a lack of shots for the "good" side, for whatever reason. It's kind of odd, our cameraguy (Joe) was playing his Ultramarines this fine day, no idea why he didn't snap more establishing shots of them... Maybe these are just more dramatic?
Chaos Basilisks... Do you feel my pain yet???
So, now the game gets rolling... Like I said, I can only remember highlights, I can't remember all the details. However, I'm pretty certain that "evil" got first turn (I'm certain Brett made us WAAAGH!!! for it...). So, that turn would pretty much consist of Nids rushing at us and some Plaguereaper volleys touching down. Nothing much, right? What's interesting is that in out first turn, Brother-Captain Sternn hucked a Vortex Grenade which scattered and landed right on top of Comissar Yarrick. Great luck already.
This is the gun-cam view of James's Hellhammer. I think the playing cards were meant to represent destroyed vehicles, that one in particular was one of my Piranhas. Luckily I had 4 more where that came from, but it was a loss even so. Off in the background you can see James's Flier (I forget which one that is) causing a lot of general mayhem. I can't remember if that thing got shot down or not - I'm inclined to say it didn't.
I belive this shot was taken at roughly the same time. Notice the skinny guy on the left with the nerd next to him? The skinny one is Ben, plopping his flank-marching Nids down to chomp on my Tau, and the nerd is me, looking on in horror as my stealth-suits get eaten. Speaking of which...
Here are a small portion of those very same flankers munching on my Kroot... And guess how we got rid of them???
You don't have to tell me just how cheap our little tactic was, but it was funny at the time. And it's not as though we had any shortage of bodies anyway. We had to find some way to put it to those damned bugs!
next up, we've got some before & after pics... It's pretty obvious what happened!
Like I said, it's obvious what happened, right?
What I'm sure you're all waiting for at this point is the aftermath of what happened. Our dead piles were so impressive, that Joe thought it mandatory to take 3 pictures of it from all different angles.
These are out dead piles. All the Tau here are mine, the Black Templars belong to James. The Nids are between Rick and Ben, though I think Ben lost more. I think all the chaos other than the Bloodthirster on this table belong to Sam. Marines are between Joe and Dar, really anybody's guess...
And now our players!
They conviced us all to do a final WAAAGH!!!. From left to right, we are:
Dar (The man who looks like a Space Wolf)
Joe (Big blue shirt)
Rick (I told you he's bald - he's the Nid player)
Sam (He has the Blue on also...)
??? (Who is that man in the sweater?)
Ben (Easily the loudest of us all - I think he practices in his spare time)
Me (I know I look short, I'm older than a few of us there though. I'm also the only reason we drew that game - a single Piranha sitting on the objective!!!)
Brett (He really is that tall)
James (He's really not that tall. I'm taller than he is)
Rick (The Orks... Can you tell by the way he seems to know he's the best WAAAGH!!!er there?)
Hope y'all enjoyed that. I know it's not much, and I'm really sorry I can't remember all of what happened, or any of what happened, but the only way I can remember any of it (or that it even happened) is through these pics. See ya all later!
I don't mean to be the first responder in my own thread, but it seems that these pics got their order screwed up... More than a little. I know how I posted them, but they aren't all necessarily where they're supposed to be. It's not that I'm just retarded and can't order things, it's either the system screwed up or there was a foul-up when the resizing occured, I did in fact have them all right...
Hope you guys enjoy it anyway.
