I haven't done any battle reports in a long time, so I figured I would write one up after a long day of 3 2000 point games. A small local tournament with 12 players in all; it was quite an enjoyable day with some great guys. So enjoyable, in fact, that everyone got maximum sportsmanship score. I have never made a 40k batrep before, let alone one with pictures, and I am sure I got some things wrong. Something about 40k is much more fluid in my memory than fantasy, which makes remember the exact turn on which things happened difficult. I did my best to remember, and I used vassal to make the pictures(unfortunately the buildings aren't exactly the same).
My first game of the day was against a Blood Angels player.
The tournament was set up so we got to play every one of the missions. This game was Capture and Control, and our random deployment was Dawn of War.
My opponent got first turn and setup was something like this:
First turn was rather uneventful as DOW missions are, he moved everything on and so did I.
I see his special character and super squad and counter by setting up in the opposite corner.
He moves things forward, rushing with Dante. He tries for the psychic power that makes Mephiston(?) fly, but fails his test and holds a squad back for him. A lucky lascannon shot from his dread destroys my inquisitor's landraider.
I fly my seraphim and cannoness out a zoom a rhino out. My exorcist moves for some fire support as well. I roll poorly across the table for moving through cover, so my heavy bolters can't see, and my grey knights are quite close enough to the objective yet. With divine guidance from those rhino sisters and all my other shooting only Dante and maybe one or two of his buddies are left(and I believe he took a wound as well). Hammer of the withces takes a wound off Mephiston. I assault with my seraphim and cannoness boost their init and wipe the squad with no attacks back.
He gets his devestator squad with 2 lascannons on top of the building. His Assault marines (and maybe the psyker too?) move forward. His lascannon dread fails to do anything.
I feel gutsy so I land my seraphim on top of the building, and fortunately they take no wounds. My Sisters shuffle with their rhino, and my second squad zooms out to support(always use at least two squads). My inquisitor takes another wound off his Mephiston. My sisters divine rapid fire his assault marines, and kill them and maybe mephiston too. My exorcist takes the multimelta off his other dread and immobilizes it. I kill a terminator or two with heavy bolters and storm bolters. Between shooting an assault my seraphim wipe his devastators.
His terminators kill a sister, my first casualty. The lascannon dread tries for my exorcist, but my termies keep it safe.
My seraphim jump down next to his tac squad holding his objective. My sisters mount up in their rhinos, and head to around the building. Mephiston is deffinately dead by this point, and my exorcist and other shooting kill his terminators. My rhinos pop smoke, and my exorcist is out of sight. Divine guidance from my seraphim and power weapons kill the tac squad.
He tries to lascannon my rhino, but smoke keeps it safe.
Only one rhino can get close, so the other one moves back. My sisters hop out to claim the objective and the seraphim scoot over. The game is called.
The first round really well. When my opponent started packing up he realized he forgot his death company(?) hidden behind that building. The were only primed, so they blended in with the dark gray building and board. Moral of the story, paint your minis. Lucky for me, but it might not have mattered too much as they still don't score. Two objectives to none, but not killing everything was considered a solid victory.
Second game was against an entire Deathwing Dark Angels army.
Capture and control this time, but I still ended up with Dawn of War again. I went first.
The board was filled with giant craters (vassal doesn't have any big enough so the triple craters and round ruins are craters). Very little other terrain to speak of, and I took the side with the only multi-tiered building.
I moved everything onto the board, trying to have everything as supported as possible, as I don't know where his strikes will be coming from.
His only thing that doesn't deep strike is his dread. It moves on and tries to shoot forgetting about night fight, so nothing happens.
There is only one thing to shoot at, and I destroy his dread.
Two things come in from deep strike, but one of the mishaps on a crater and is delayed.
I send out a rhino and my seraphim to take on his squad. My other rhino scoots over to take up the old rhino's place, but gets immobilized. Divine Guidance, plasma, and a little Exorcist too wipe his squad.
He gets two squads again this turn. One squad fire at my grey knights, killing two. The other shoots my seraphim killing one.
I feel cocky, and break my two squad rule. I leave the sisters to divine guidance by themself, and they can't quite get the job done thanks to some amazing rolls for invul saves. Even heavy bolters from my sisters still leave s one left. My seraphim, who I should have used to help my sisters spread out in a large area to prevent seep strike in my center where most of the objectives are. Exorcist and Landarider can't seem to hit anything and between the two of them and some inquisitor heavy bolter and gk storm bolter action only kill 3 termies.
His squad with his Captain guy of some sort (probably a special character) come in from reserves, but scatter and I get to place them. His other reserve also mishaps and are delayed. His terminators continue to whittle down my GKs, leaving only 3 left. His other terminator rushes for ward to contest my other objective.
My sisters mount up because it is turn 5, and I want to claim 1 more objective. I use my landraider to shield my remaining Grey Knights so they will stick around to claim. My rhino fixes itself and moves to the center to be in the way of deep strikes. My gks in the building move back an inch of two to be out of assualt range, but still in claiming range. Both the LR and Exorcist combined only kill 1 terminator(we dub the remaining guy Superman). I also do not kill that other terminator.
Turn 5, so his guys have to come in now. Neither scatter, which is lucky for him. His shooting is pretty ineffective, killing only a single seraphim.
In the last round I hop my sisters out of that rhino and divine guidance his 5 ternimators, and the seraphim hop in those ruins to help with some plasma, but I loose one. They succede in killing those guys and my exorcist kill superman. The other lone terminator is taken down by lascannons. I can't get him off his objective, but I have 3.
Terrain really helped me this game, as there were few spots that were safe for deep striking. My dislike for deep strike based armies is just reaffirmed every time I play against them. I get a solid victory because I have twice as many objectives as he does, but he would have needed none if I wanted a massacre.
Necrons in Annihilation this time. The terrain for this one is the least like its Vassal equivalent. The building in the center has a giant hole through the middle. The ruins in my right deployment zone is a double decker U-shaped one.
Standard deployment this time, and I think I am going first, but he ended up seizing the initiative(also known as my least favorite rule ever, but that is for another topic).
He goes first moving something forward and trying to shoot my grey knights. Shrouding and 3+ armor keeps them safe.
That deceiver will give me problems no matter what I do, so I send a rhino forward, and hide grey knights behind it. Terminators move forward as does the LR. I kill a couple necrons.
The deceiver attacks the rhino shield as planned, doing nothing because needs 6s to hit.. The destroyers can't get an angle on my knights so the head over to hit the landraider. He deep strikes one of his two monoliths behind my lines, and a squad of 20 necrons and a destroyer lord with a res orb through it! things are looking bad. His destroyers immobolize the LR. Monolith gause arc kills only two acolytes thanks to my chirurgeon and some lucky rolls against my seraphim and retributors. The 20 necrons unload on my seraphim and cannoness, killing only 3 and wounding my cannoness. That could have gone a lot worse.
I run grey knights out of deciever assault range. My rhino all alone dumps its cargo and they divine guidance the destroyers unluckily to little effect. Between them and the landraider they kill 3. I really can't take another round of that rapid fire madness. I zoom a rhino over there and place it facing backwards so I have a fire lane for my exorcist and Grey knights. Divine guidance from those sister, the exorcist, retributor heavy bolters, Inquisitor heavy bolters, a squad of grey knights and my remaining seraphim all combine to leave only his necron lord and two necrons left. My terminators were just in range to assault his closest necron squad (my diagram was off). They kill quite a few and the necrons run(something I had forgotten would happen in the new rules, I was hoping my termies would be safe). My Cannoness and her squad try and clean up the necron lord, what else can I do, all those guys will be coming back(two will be back rolls) if I don't wipe them now. I get 4 hits on his neron lord and end up wounding him twice. The rest of my squad kills a single necron. His lord deal one wound to my cannoness, which means I win combat by 2. He rolls a 12 for leadership and I sweep him! Oh lucky day.
The game is almost over at this point, and he doesn't get his last Monolith. His destroyers and necrons combine to kill 2 terminators. The monolith places a template on my clumped up sisters killing 8(I forgot them in the picture), but they hold. The deciever charges my sisters(my 1st and only time I got a squad charged the entire tournament). I make them strength 5 and the deciver deal a wound to them and they deal one back for a tied combat.
My exorcist kills a bunch of 'crons, and he is at phase out. Game over.
That crazy Monolith trick is nasty, and if he had rolled better and I had rolled worse I would have surely been on a back foot. I have tons for fire too, and I can make some of it AP1, so when they are clumped up like that they are prime targets for flame templates (I believe I hit 9 or something per template). He ended up getting no kill point because nothing was completely dead, so massacre for me.
I did really well this tournament and ended up winning it by a single point. I really just bring this list because I like it them-wise and model-wise, so it is always nice to make things work out, and who doesn't like to root for the underdog. One of my best friends, ended up getting best sports, so he got a prize as well. We carpool, so our car was filled with win!

Great battle reports! I really enjoyed reading those, and the pictures made it perfect you fought well, and deserved that win.

Great Battle report, I love it when the inquisition wins!!!

Great win, maybe I missed it, but it would be nice to see your list, otherwise good use of pics and good quick writing.
Do I know you?!?!?!?!?
Good win rozen core. Just one question about the second game, were the craters counted as impassable because he should still have been able to land on them, just would have required a dangerous terrain test (still something a deathwing player would rather not deal with)
Dear Game Developer,Caps-Lock, its like cruise-control for AWESOMENESS!
Rock is cheese, Paper is just fine
WWP and other Dark Eldar how to
The big ones were impassible in places(big walls on some sides), and the small ones would have been dangerous. Even the small ones effected where he wanted to deep strike, and for example, he deep striked his HQ squad in the empty area in front of my building to avoid them and ended up scattering into my units. Another one hit his own squad because there were so few safe places from my shooting or terrain.
Thanks for the congratulations. I often place highly in these local affairs, but this was my first time actually winning. Mostly it is because my list isn't a highly tuned machine, and I will be honest, my two rhino squads and my cannoness+seraphim do most of the real damage while the rest of my army just sits there looking pretty. Grey Knights are fairly expensive, but they make great objective holders with lots of shots, a decent range and being fearless.
My list was:
Jump pack, Cloak, Book, Blessed Weapon, Plasma Pistol
Hammer of the Witches, Bolt Pistol, 2xAcolyte /w carapace, 3x Heavy Bolter Servitor, 2x Chirurgeon
3 Grey Knight Terminators
Superior /w plasma pistol, Flamer, Heavy Flamer
Smoke Launchers, Extra Armor
Superior /w plasma pistol, Flamer, Heavy Flamer
Smoke Launchers, Extra Armor
7 Grey Knights
7 Grey Knights
Superior /w plasma pistol and power weapon, 2 Twin Flame Pistols
4 Heavy Bolters
I toyed with the idea of having one less retributor and the superior instead, but went with more bodies. I decided to try the book of st. lucius again, and wasn't to impressed(it never even came up). I still feel that with good playing they are a waste of points, just like celestians.

Wonderful report (and i loved the diagrams) but i feel bad bout your necron opponent cheating ya a bit, one thing he cant bring out 20 troops outta a monolith at once becuase they all cant fit within 2 inches of the portal, technally that group is destroyed because it cant come through, and because he deep striked his mono, it counts as moving crusing speed, and therefore cant fire any of his weapons upon the deepstrike turn.
A very nice set of reports, congratulations on the wins too, especially against such a diverse set of opponents, your list has definitely proved itself against those three, I think some of your models need some battle honours adding :-)
Do you have any pics of the army?
