Libraian Mephiston surveyed his army with pride, glancing to the left he saw the whirlwind and the tactical squad stood on the ruined building, with a comanding veiw of the field. Aranged next to that was an assault squad, checking their chainswords and reloading the bolt pistols. none of the men wanted to run out of ammo when a carnifex charged at them. A vindicator, fresh from the forges of Mars gleamed in the morning light, its demolisher cannon cleaned to perfection. Then their was his own squad, veterans all. Glancing at his powerfist bearer, Garivel, Mephiston felt a sense of pride. He had himself recogmended him for the blood trials and Garivel made a fine marine. Next to them a rhino engine spluterd and burst into life, the engines awakened. The second assault squad with captain Cestus were stationed near an old bunker and on the other side of this the death compnay stood. Whilst unusual to use them without a chaplain, there was no choice, for he had been killed by a zoantrope blast earliyer. Lastly there was a second whirlwind, rotating its turret in preparation. Everying was ready. This was a direct strike to the heart of the tyranids synaptic network to disrupt a hive fleet headed for Baal itself. Mephiston prepared for war in scilence. knowing what was about to come.
Basicaly i deployed a tactical squad and whirlwind in a ruin, an assault squad next to them and the vindicator next to them. Mephiston came next and a rhino with tactical squad flanked him. Lastly a second assault squad, the death company and a whirlwind hold the right flank.
From left to right the tyranids deployed (from marines left to right.)
Warriors raveners and fleash guants held thge left, a unit of spineguants hid behind the hive tyrants and carnifex, which in turn hid behind a bunker to avoid the barage of fire headed undoutably their way. finaly some hormaguants, warriors and the second set of spine guants held the right flank.
All the blood angel units bar the whirlwinds + tac squad in ruin move up to get in range, the second assault squad hangs back to avoid the hormagaunts fast charge, whilst the rhino moves 12 and deploy's its marines facing the hormaguants. In the shooting phase the whirlwinds wound 1 warrior and kills another (separate squads) whilst the vindicator kills 1 spineguanst and 1 tyrant guard. The tactical marines kill 11 hormagaunts from bolter fire. The death company run 5 inches, the furioso 4.
All the tyranid forces move up. The hive tyrant jumps onto the bunker it was hiding behind, well within charge range of mephiston, whilst the fex and dakka rant move round. During shooting, despite taking 23 wounds 15 from spinegaunt fire! only 2 death company fall. The dakka rant then charges the draednought and the other tyrant hits mephistons squad. The ravenors charge one of the assault squads and the remaining hormaguants charge the tactical squads backed up by the carnifex. The ravenors fail to kill 1 marine and are cut down, the dreadnought is stunned and kills a guard. Mephiston atempts to reduce the hive tyants attacks but is hit by perils of the warp! he does mange to give the powerfist an extra attack. It proves useful as he wounds the hive tyrant, but it kills 2 of the squad. Meohiston however fails to wound with all of his attacks. Hormaguants kill 3 dorm the tactical squad, carnifex kills 6, marines only manage to kill 1 gaunt.
Mephiston heard a peircing roar from above and, glancing up he say a hive tyrant with a pair of cruel hooked wings.
Focusing his mind he attempted to find the creatures soul. Upon entry to the tyrants mind however he was assaulted by a wave to psychic energy so feirce he was forced out of the creatures mind altogether. Not scince the red thirst had Mephiston endured such mental agony. Left realing he could only watch as 2 of his veterans were cut down from the viscous tallons.
The second whirlwind moves over for a better shot at the warrior and a half holding the spineguants and fleshguants in synapse range, the assault squad thats just killed the raveners moves over to assist Mephiston against the tyrant, whilst the second squad moves to assist against the carnifex. During shooying a whirlwing scatters off target but hits 12 fleshgaunts, which are then killed off. Plasma cannon fire kills a warrior leaving 1 wound remaining (AHHH).The death company kill 2 spineguants. During assault Mephiston again fails his test to reduce the tyrants attacks, not by perils of the warp though. The dreadnought is stunned, again but wounds the hive tyrant. The death company assault the spinegaunts, killing 6.
There's not much already in combat so moving is limited. The warrior moves out of the way of the plasma and whirlwind fire, as do the flesh guants. The second warrior, ad and hormaguants charge the death company. Theres no notable shooting so the warriors and hormaguants, charge and kill the death company, the hive tyarnt wipesout all except the powerfist bearer in mephistons squad. The spineguants manage to kill 5 assault marines and the carnifex wipesout 3 after rolling a 1 on d6 and a 1 on a d3! The powerfist man then wounds the fex once. The dakka rant finaly blows up the dreadnought.
Mephiston jumps onto the bunker the carnifex is stuck next to, the assault squad moves to attack the dakka rant thats just blown up the dreadnought. The whirlwinds try to manuver into a better position but cant see much due to combat. The vindiactor which has benn scatering everywhere its not supposed to lands a hit and kills the warrior on 1 wound! So with mephiston joining the assault on the carnifex and a powerfist looming on the dakkarant, things dont look to good for the nids. Indeed mephiston removes the fexs last 2 wounds, killing it and the dakka rant is slain by 1 assault marine wounding, then the powerfist following up. In a last act of revenge however the spine guanst kill the last of the assault squad.
With that the tyranid big guns are dead, there only 1 bit of synapse on the board and its controling 5 hormaguants. Mephiston could kill that on his own so its a win for blood angels!
a couple of things i found out in this fight, it seems that offensive speed is very important to beat the nids, as im used to having a gunline try to kill my flyrant, hormagaunts and carnifex before it can get to them. not a hope. Also it seems that powerfists are very useful against nids, as is mephiston and 2 whilrwinds and a vindicator. that worked very nicely although i suspect that i targeted the wrong things.
This was my first bat rep so i hope it wasn't to long or boring for you all. Thanksfor reading

You know what? You lost becuz you forgot about your genestealers.
its a very good point however they simply didn't turn up. If they had it could easily have turned the battle around, as you say.
wow... blood angels are great at assault. nids got beaten at their own game
They are indeed very good at assault but there are better assault army out there (orks). the main thing the angels have got working for them is speed and antipersonal fire. Baal predators crank out 10 shots a turn and furioso dreads can get 7 attacks on the charge. You are almost forced however to take a special character as an HQ. they are miles better than standard hq for very little extra cost.
the nids list looks really wierd. where are all the TMCs? only 3?! at 1850? where are the zoans?
The tyrants are mismatched the slogger should have ranged guns and the winged one should ahev the devourers. I don't really think this game shows anything with regard to the experiment as the nids were set up to loose but nice BR anyways
youve got a good point about the zoans, however i normaly use this list at 1750 level and with spinefist warriors, i just dont happen to use zoans. However if i dropped 1 set of spinefist warriors + the 2 ravenors that would give me some spare points i could spend on them. Apart from the warpblast what would be the second power? Feel free to post that on my actual army list or here. I presume synapse. Actually i might try that. About the TMC however i find that the only type of fex i like is the god fex. Also taking 3 TMC frees up lots of room for troops and other gribbly things. I shall think that one over, try a biat or ninja fex, see what id have to drop. I generaly tend to find that the wings on the combat rant mean it can assault faster than slogging can, cover terrain much better and gives me much improved target selection. With a slogger the guns give me the range to compensate for the lack of speed. Lastly the nids wernt set up to lose, i have a very nice record in 5th ed with them, i just have to use slightly alternative tactics. Hopefully you didn't mean that the list was terrible otherwise ive got a large problem...
