This was a 1,000 point game for the local league, my sisters of the Order of the Porphyran Excubitors against a force of Tau. I had a palatine with celestians in an immolator, 3 squads of sisters, 2 exorcists, and retributors with heavy bolters. All in all 41 sisters and 3 vehicles. The Tau had a team of crisis suits, a team of stealth suits, 28 fire warriors, 5 gun drones, an ethereal, and around 30 or so kroot mercenaries.
During deployment the Tau force took up offensive positions, their fire warriors screened by the kroot who are always eager to get into close combat, with the stealth suits in the back, and the crisis squad waiting to deep strike. The sisters deployed defensively behind cover, with the heavy bolters and the exorcists being set up in the back, close to the table's edge but with good fields of vision.
The sisters began the battle, with the immolator racing towards the kroot lines and ducking behind a building. While the tactical squads jockeyed into firing positions, the exorcists let loose a fussilade against two seperate fire warrior squads, taking down a small number of them. The heavy bolters must have had the Emperor watching over them however, managing to take down 9 fire warriors, leaving the ethereal and a warrior alone once the smoke had settled.
The Tau responded by deploying their gun drones close to the retributor squad, while the stealth suits jumped close to the immolator. The kroot surged forward, while the remaining fire warriors tried to find better positions. The gun drones killed one retributor and pinned the rest, while the plasma weapons of the stealth suits managed to hit the immolator's promethium supply with a glancing hit, destroying the vehicle and killing a celestian who did not manage to flee in time, the fire reducing her to ashes in seconds. Shots fired against the exorcist glanced off its side hull.
The second turn of the sisters saw the remaining celestians and the palatine move against the gun drones, while the tactical squads moved even closer to the tau. The exorcist that had been fired upon turned to face the fire warriors. The Light of the Emperor shone upon the retributors making them fearless, so uncaring about the casualty inflicted by the gun drones earlier, they opened up on the kroot, killing a large number of them but not enough to force a morale check. The exorcists opened up once again on the fire warriors, killing more of them, but the guidance of the ethereal allowed them to remain in battle.
The second Tau turn saw the crisis suits delayed by imperial AAA fire, but this did not stop the bloodthirsty kroot who charged the celestians and the palatine, while the stealth suits tried to destroy the exorcist but failed. In the melee that followed, the palatine and 3 celestians went down, taking 2 kroot with them. The survivors managed to pass their morale checks, spelling disaster since the kroot would kill them and sweeping advance during their own next turn.
The sisters' third turn saw the tactical squads moving back to avoid the oncoming kroot tide, while the exorcists kill 4 tau fire warriors, forcing them to flee behind cover and one stealth suit, while the heavy bolters fully destroyed a fire warrior squad, leaving a total of 5 fire warriors on the field. The assault phase saw the remaining celestians getting chopped to bits by the kroot, while taking four with them. The kroot did not manage to sweep into combat due to their low resolve and initiative, but since it was their turn next, they would assault then.
With a swish, the two crisis suits made landfall, but the empire gunners had forced them to miss their landing spot, managing to land between a sister squad and the retributors, losing all but one of their shield drones in the process. The savage kroot fired their primitive weapons, killing a sister, while the battle suits let off with their heavy weapons at the retributors. Seeing that their time was about to end, the veteran superior prayed and received the spirit of the martyr, making the tau fire ineffective. The kroot undaunted rushed into combat, while the stealth suits decided to attack as well. Distaster befell a unit of sisters which fled off the table and the kroot charged into the retributors. The other depleted kroot squad did not manage to kill any sisters, and after losing one of the remaining four mercenaries fled off. The stealth suits killed a sister while losing one of their numbers and remained locked in combat.
In the fourth sister turn, seeing one of their units flee and their heavy support charged, an exorcist, the retributors, and the remaining squad not in combat all let loose at the kroot, killing a staggering sixteen of them, leaving the remaining four no option but to flee. The second exorcist unleashed a salvo of six missiles at the crisis suits, destroying their shield drone and tearing huge holes through their armour and the tau inside, reducing them to the equivalent of opened tin cans. The combat between the stealth suits and the sisters was bloodless, but the tau failed their moral high ground roll and fled.
The fourth tau turn saw the stealth suits rally, one kroot squad rally, while the other carried on running. The etheral, hiding behind a building with a lone fire warrior since the second turn decided that there was no chance of victory, so the tau devils, surely in league with chaos surrendered, only to be immolated in honour of the Emperor, as the sisters chanted their battle hymn "Nabiscum Imperator".
Numberwise, I lost the whole command squad (6 models & immolator), one full tactical squad and 2 sisters from the others (12 models), the veteran superior and 1 retributor (2 models), so that's 20 out of 41 models and 1 out of 3 vehicles. The Tau lost all but 6 of his fire warriors (22 models), all but 7 of his kroot (23 models), 5 gun drones, 1 shield drone (and whatever numbers failed to deep strike), and 1 stealth suit, leaving him with 1 ethereal, 5 stealth suits, 6 fire warriors, and 7 kroot on the table. A pretty intense battle, especially when the kroot charged and my sisters were dangerously close to the table edge, but good dice rolls for attack and defence meant that most of the kroot were cut down when they won close combat and consolidated, leaving only the stealth suits as a viable fighting force on the field.
nice job, although my Tau bretheren lost. congrates i hear many stories from other tau commanders that beating SoB is easy and you just showed them what the sisters can do. I for one have never fought a SoB army but i know that you should never get too close to them because they love fire and melta weapons and are killer in cc.
Again great job
If you charge a bunker and die, its called being reckless, but if you charge the bunker and win, it's heroic!
A very nicely written battle report. And the battle itself was quite exciting as well, to one who supports neither side.

I enjoyed this report too. Too many of the Tau players I know think Kroot are worthless, but they were the only affective unit that tau player deployed.
I've seen many a Tau flee the field after being torched... I'm a big fan of immolators
