Got myself a game against a Daemon army. I've never played Daemons before so it was a definate learning experience. This is also my first game with the new Blood Angels so here we are.

Predator Annihilator: Lascannon Sponsons
Predator Annihilator: Lascannon Sponsons
Greater daemon of Tzeentch. (L)
Daemon Prince of Khorne with Iron Hide.
10 Blood Letters with Full Command (BL)
10 Blood Letters with Full Command (BL)
20 Horrors. 1 with Bolt (H1)
17 Horrors, 1 with Bolt (H2)
5(ish) Daemonettes. (DM)
6 Flamers of Tzeentch. (F)
5 Nurgling Bases (N)
Mission: Capture the Flag.
Deployment: Dawn of War.
TURN 1 - Angels.
Movement: Well…………no Daemons on the board I move my army on. Taking my objective and forming a nice armoured wedge. Popping smoke on everything.
TURN 1 - Daemons/
Movement: Flamers and a unit of Blood Letters come down on my left flank. The Daemon Prince comes down behind the hill. A unit of Horrors and the Daemonettes come down behind the hill too.
Shooting: The Flamer Serge bolts Tactical squads Rhino and it explodes killing a Marine…..
(Units key is in the lists)
TURN 2 - Angels
Movement: I’m still a bit wary of what Daemons can do so I’m a bit afraid to commit to anything to soon so not a lot of movement happens. The Predators move up the right and Target the Khorne Prince.
Shooting: 2 Blood Letters die from shooting from Tactical squad 1. Fire from the Preds and the Raider take an Impressive 1 wound off the Prince………..The git passed 5 out of 6 4+ Cover saves… So not fair.
TURN 2 - Daemons
Movement: Someone forgot to tell me flamers were Jump Infantry so they moved right next to Tactical Squad 1.…….they’re so gonna Die. The Prince moved forward, towards the hill and my Raider. So do the Blood Letters. The Horrors move right to deal with the Predators.
Reinforcements, Another unit of Letters appears on the left in support of the other Letter unit. Another unit of Horrors appears but scatters into the Back woods.
Shooting: Tactical Squad 1 dies…….It dies a lot. Other than that nothing happens.
TURN 3 - Angels
Movement: Well that just ain’t fair. Tact Squad 2 disembarks from their stationary Rhino and gets ready to assault the Flamers. The Raider tank shocks the Flamers out the way and the Vets disembark ready to show the Blood Letters what for!! The Assault squads hold back as counter attack.
Shooting. Fire from the Predators wounds the Prince twice. Fire from the Rhino’s Storm Botlers finish him off. Ha!
Assault: Righteous Fury at last! The Vanguard Vets Charge in and kill them all before they even get to strike! They wisely choose to consolidate out of charge range of the newly appeared Letter unit. The Tactical Marines Beat up some Flamers but they hold and weather most of the storm. At least they wont be shooting me again.
TURN 3 - Daemons.
Movement - The Lord of Change appears behind the hill. The Nurglings appear in front of the Predators.. Both Horror Units move forward so they can Bolt the Predators. The Letters move forward towards the Veterans and it’s looking like they’re in assault range…….bad. The Daemonettes dance forward to help the Flamers out.
Shooting. The Greater Daemon Bolts assault squad 1’s Rhino and wrecks it. Fire from the Horrors immobilises a Predator
Assault: Blood Letters are out by half an inch thank god. Daemonettes kick out 20 Attacks! That’s just silly…….then they tell me they’re Rending. Doesn’t looking good for the Tactical Marines. 1 Marine dies from Rending and one fails a save only to pass his FNP from the nearby Priest! He he. The Angels fight back and win combat by 1.
TURN 4 Angels.
Movement. Time to show those Khorne scum what’s for again! The Vets move Forward to assault the Letters again! Assault Squad 1 Moves forward to help the embattled Tacticals out.
On the Right flank, Tactical squad 2’s Rhino moves forward and acts as cover for Assault squad 2’s Rhino as they burn it towards the Horrors.
Shooting: Fire from the Pred and the Raider takes a whole 1 wound of the Greater Daemon. Toughness 6 and a 3+ Inv save is just wrong I tell you.
Assault: True to form the Veterans Wipe the Blood Letters out before the can strike. The consolidate and face the Greater Daemon.
TURN 4 - Daemons
Movement. Surprise surprise the Greater Daemon lands next to the Veterans. The horrors move so they can target Assault Squad 2’s Rhino. Those cheeky Nurglings move and block off all the exits on the Rhino!!! Dastardly Tzeentch Tactics. (one side is blocked off by Tact Squad 1’s Rhino)
Shooting. Serves them right for using cheeky tactics to kill my Angels! Both the Horror units miss with their Bolts. The Lord of Change kills 3 Marines with a Flamer like attack and kills the Priest with some other Psychic attack (toughness test or die)
Assault: The Lord of Change Charges in and kills 2 Marines. They fight back and stick a wound on him taking him down to 2. My Marines hold. The Tactical Marines and the Assault squad kill off the Last of the Flamers and the Daemonettes suffer another casualty from “no Retreat” leaving 3 girlies left.
TURN 5 - Angels
Movement: Tact squad 1’s Rhino gets out the way and Assault squad 2 bails out the side of their Rhino. Right in the face of 37 Horrors. Their objective right behind them……
Shooting. Not a lot really……everything is in combat.
Assault: Lord of Change kills another 2 Marines and I fail again to either wound or get through that 3+ Inv save. They hold their ground none the less.
The assault squad 2 charges both units and they’re soon surrounded by the hoard of gibbering Tzeentch daemons. Undaunted the fight through them and kill 5. 7 More die to the no retreat rule. (4 on one unit 3 on other)
The Daemonettes are finally killed by the combined efforts of Tactical squad and Assault squad 1.
TURN 5 Daemons
Movement: Everything is in combat.
Assault: Lord of Change kills the last of the Veterans leaving Captain Vargo alone but he fights on putting a wound on the Daemon. He holds determined to kill him.
The Game carries on.
TURN 6 - Angels
Movement: Tact squad 1, still 9 strong despite being in combat from turn 2 and taking a charge from the Daemonettes sits on my home objective. Assault squad 1 moves ready to assault the Nurglings.
Assault: 2 Bases of Nurglings die to attacks and no retreat. Assault squad 2 continue to hack their way through the hoard of Daemons killing another 6. Although one of their number is dragged down. More Daemons die to the “No retreat!” rule
The Lord of Change Wounds Captain Vargo once and the Captain fails to do any wounds in return. He holds his ground.
Daemons Turn 6:
Assault: All the Nurglings die and Assault squad 1 consolidates onto my home objective to have a chat with the Tactical Marines. Assault Squad 2 fights on and through wounds caused and wounds caused by “No Retreat” they hack their way clear to the enemy objective.
Capt Vargo fights on against the Lord of Change and avoids all his attacks and wounds the Daemon twice but still can’t get through that 3+ Invulnerable Save.
The Game ends………. Despite Assault Squad 2’s heroic efforts they’re 2 inches away from the Daemon Objective. Tactical Squad 2 and Assault Squad 1 hold my Objective. Daemons have nothing……In fact the only thing they have is a Lord of Change on 1 wound.
Overall I’m quite chuffed at how my boys performed on their first outing. 6 turns of pure bloody combat against a Fearless enemy they hacked their way through everything. Shooting did nothing, Those Predators did sod all but then they were facing an army with Invulnerable saves left right and centre.
I’ll definitely remember what Flamers do though……..
Thats all good advice, damn this is an old thread!, but this was an all comers list so no tailoring. Loosing the Preds and Powerfists would have left this list with little or no Anti-tank. Which is bad in 5th ED. I still annihilated him though, even if my list wasn't tailored.
If I knew i was up against daemons I would have taken Guardsmen. Who are frankly, just better
