Hey, I have been collecting warhammer 40k for a few months but only really played a real
games, I have found that my passion is the Nids, so recently me and my friend both deicded
we should play a game to boost our experience before we enter a doubles tournment together,
we both started at the same time and have about the same exp. So here are the lists :
Hive Tyrant- 2 x Scything Talons, acid blood, Wings, Hive commander
8x Genestealers- Broodlord with Talons
20 Hormagaunts- Toxin sacs
Tervigon- Adrenal glands
3 x Zoanthropes
Doom of mal'antai
3 x Hive Guards
This comes to a total of 1745 points.
My eldar friend used.
Dire Avenger x 10
Exarch- 2 Shuriken Catapults, Bladestorm
Dire Avengers x 10
Exarch- Diresword, Bladestorm
Farseer x1- Spiritstones, Guide, Doom, Fortune
Harlequins x 1- fusion pistol x2
Wraithlord x 1- Diresword
Rangers x 10 -> Pathfinders
Farseer x 1- Spirit Stones, Runes of Warding, Singing Spear, Mindwar, Fortune, Doom
Warlock x 10- Conceal, Embolden, Enhance
Fireprism x 1- holofields
Warpspiders x 10
Exarch: Extra Spinner/ Spinaret Rifle, Powerblades, Surprise Assault, Withdraw
That comes to 1920 points.
I do know he gets a fair bit of extra points but I let him use it, because I have a little
bit more exp in actually gameplay.
That list looks quite nasty , my main oppurunity here is his lack of speed, he has no transports so im going to hit him hard, fast, and accuratly. His wraithlord is gonna love my hive guards, and my thropes are just itching to take apart that fireprisim. Gotta watch out for those dire avengers, with bladestorm they will make mince meat outa my gaunts and genestealers, the later of the 2 have ALWAYS pulled through for me in the long run.
The set up.
We are playing a nice game of cap and control, with 5 objectives. One on each players side and the other 3 evenly spaced out in the middle, there is a fair bit of cover so I can use this to my advantage.
I used my heirachy to the fullest, using my gaunts up front as living walls, I reserved my
trygons, stealers and thropes, they can come in later and show them how its done.
Spreading across the table, reserving some of the models, but placing those dire avengers up front, with the rangers behind (those are going to be no. 1 on nids hit list, they will destroy my MC :/)
Nids go first , I rush up everything, my tervigon spawning several gaunts. My hormagaunts got some nice fleet in there, sprinting up the board in a killing frenzy, my tyrant just behind, bending the will of the mind to them. Looking foward to bring in my big guns...claws?
eldar rushes up, getitng some pretty dodgy rolls for fleet, the fire prisim staying behind
with the pathfinders, the melee part of his army running up the side, no doubt expecting my stealers to pop in and say hi, the storm guardians are near his tank, hopefully trying to buy it some time when the spores rain from above
Nids cap the center objectives, setting up nicely, the hive guards pop some shots into the Harlequins, killing a few, the hormaguants shoulder to shoulder waiting for their turn to prove their worth, I roll for my reserves, the thropes and doom land, with the stealers
outflanking from the sides, rushing straight for the injured Harlequins, killing all but 2
:/, their counter attack kills only 1 stealer, yay. The thropes roll to take down the tank,
but fail EVERY one, rolling 3 ones... :/, just to end the turn tervigon rolls and gets another several gaunts.
Eldar rush forward capturing the third objective on the left which I left out, the storm
guardians assaulting my thropes, my invul save blocked all but 1 wound, the 2 squads of
avengers use blade storm and pop out 60 shots on my hormaguants and termagaunts, I lost 12 hormagaunts and every termagaunt, could be worse? the prisim and pathfinders open fire on my Tyrant, the prism scattering and missing, but manages to wound one of my hive guards , the pathfinders shoot and with deadly accuracy leave my tyrant with only 2 wounds left.
Nids respond. Aggressively. The 3 hive guards and thropes assault the prism, 1 guard shot scatters like crazy and luckily wipes out the 2 remaining Harlequins xD, utterly destroying the tank and the Harlequins. My crew of trygon arrive, assaulting into one squad of dire avengers, wiping them all out. The hormaguants rush foward assulting the farseer, keeping him busy from using his powers. With an awesome combo, the doom shoots at the wraithlord leaving it vulnerable, and my flyrant flies in, slaying it (complete luck form rolls there). The stealers take a risk into fleeting to get to the pathfindres before they take out my trygons, they fall short :/. Objective wise it is currently 2-1 to me. And my tervigon rolled doubles, ending his spawning spree.
Eldar respond back. The pathfinders killing 1 trygon in 1 turn of shooting..... :/.
Following by killing my flyrant :/. The spiders move in form the sides trying to assault the
lone objective guarded by the tervigon and some termagaunts, they open fire slaying the
remaining termagaunts leaving just my tervigon left. Both sides are running very low on
troops, turning all other forces to open fire on my remaining trygon and stealers, leaving
the trygon with only 3 wound, and killing 5 stealers :/.
Nids time to shine? this is the last turn, both sides running dangerously thin, the entire
game hinges on this isolated objective, where a climatic clash between biology and
technology occur. the stealers making no friends along the way assault the pathfinders,
killing all but 2, the remaining hormagunts fleet to the tervigon, just reaching the warpspiders, and rip into them killing a few. Not much else I can do, most of my units are
all tied up.
Eldar warpspiders put up a good fight but are wiped out by the hormagaunts, with next to no units left, and all remaining ones tied up in battle he gives up, victory lies with Hive
Fleet Macabre. Almost every unit was destroyed form both sides, a VERY close game.
After game analysis.
The unit that saved my neck was my all favorite genestealers, if they didnt get to the
pathfinders the trygons would have had no hope, and another unit that deserves some
attention is the all trustworthy hormagaunt. Saving my back a few times, especially on that last turn.
Eldar player did good, his lack of experience let him down, he decided not to take
transports prob because he knew I was packing 3 guards and 3 thropes AND the doom. he had some bad rolls.
I look forward to teaming up with him in the tourney next weekend. First team is chaos marines and IG. Fun .
Please post how I can improve my battle reports to please , thanks for reading! till next time! P.S- Ill post some pics later
Well, first off, you mentioned his storm guardians a couple of times in the report, but they are nowhere to be found in his list. Secondly, you show in his list a full seer council with 10 Warlocks, yet they are mentioned nowhere in the batrep. I'm sure this very pricey and hard to kill unit must have done something worth noting in the match. Other than that, I thought it was a good first attempt at a battle report.
Im positive he had storm guardians, I got them in the pics, maybe he sent me a wrong list. He did tell me before the game started he had NO idea how to use the list, I would have had no idea how to use the farseer and his warlocks. But thanks anyway ill do another report in a few days when we do our first practice doubles match, and ill make sure to record everything this time. So besides from those things any thing else I can improve on?

Pics are always nice, or even use the map editor. The link is on the first sticky in the batrep section.
Why did he let you assault his fire prism? Isn't it a skimmer with 72 inch range weapon? Seems foolish.
Well done new nid, good win
However there is one thing, i dont know how much it would have effected the game, but tervigons can only spawn before they move in the movement phase. Seems a couple of times you spawned them late.
Theres also a couple of bits when iot didnt make sense such as "The 3 hive guards and thropes assault the prism, 1 guard shot scatters like crazy and luckily wipes out the 2 remaining Harlequins xD, utterly destroying the tank and the Harlequins"
For a start why were hive guard scattering? Then the following sentence doesnt make sense. Did the shot kill the harlequins, or did the tank explode.. what?
Anyway good report.
