Casmicus is becoming decadent
Default

Allrighty played an epic battle this weekend. The battle was split into three boards. There was a main board and two sub boards. The main board had at least 4500 points per side so for every one turn on the main board, the sub boards moved 2 turns. By the end of turn 3 the subboards finished their games and entered the main board with 500 points. I played Khornate Tau (fluff to explain imperium vs, the universe) and played on a sub board.

On the Sub board

My army list:

2 Shas'o
4 bodyguards all fire knife shas' w/ shield drones

9 crisis suits, 6 fire knife, 3 fusion/missle pod

24 firewarriors

1 hammer head. multitracker some decoys

my teammate was some sort of chaos marines i forget his list and the enemy was blood angels and grey knights.

Turn 1. Due to Shas'o's superior leadership, (lucky dice rolls) the entire army except two units of crisis suits are deployed near the town's edge. The Chaos army managed to get three quarters of his men in as well. (Attackers start in reserve in this scenario). Immediately the crisis suits moved into firing positions and destroyed half of a full squad of blood angel marines as well as half a grey knight squad before moving back to cover. Stealth suits infiltrated and managed to get behind a grey knight dreadnaught and fired 18 burst cannon rounds which pierced through its rear armor. The hammerhead moved into position and took out the closest razorback that threatened to charge and disembark the next turn. A full squad of blood angels minus one disembarked the flaming wreck and get pinned the next turn. Chaos army does more damage as they stun the remaining rhino but fail to kill any unit. They manage to destroy one weapon on each of the 2 remaining greyknight dreadnaughts. Firewarriors fire at the pinned army taking out another 2 marines. Grey Knights retaliate. With their psychanon and remaining storm bolt slingers they take out 6 firewarriors and the dark angels that are able to fire take out another two. Greyknight terminators enter into the battle but are no where near the battle. A squad of blood angel scouts get in position and fire at the stealth suits. Four get taken out. The stealth suits flee towards their table edge. The blood angel furioso enter from the on the imperial board as well as two blood angel speeders with meltaguns.

Turn 2: The remaining crisis suits enter the battle. Stealth suits managed to regroup due to their bonding. They fire at a second dreadnaught but fail to pierce the armor. Hammerhead fires on a Blood angel tank that had a plasma gun attached to it. Blew it to smithereens. 2 firewarrior squads fire at 2 space marine squads. One fails to hurt anyone, the other reduces a blood angel squad to 2. Shas'o crisis squads finish off the 2 man blood angel squad as well as the remaining grey knight squad. The remaining 3 elite squads advance on the left flank under the cover of buildings and do not fire at anything. Chaos advance and take care of the blood angel squad on their end of the battle. They manage to stun the razorback but reinforced armor causes nothing to happen. On imperial's turn the razorback tank shocks a squad of chaos space marines and my untouched firewarriors. The chaos marines move out of the way. The fires in shock flee and flee of the table edge. They will be punished later. They finish off what's left of my firewarriors but are unable to fire at my crisis suits for they are all in cover except for one unit. The Greyknight terminators take out the remaining 2 stealth suits and advance. The dreadnaught on the left flank move to intercept my crisis suits. It fired but failed to hit. They fire at the hammerhead but fail to penetrate the armor. The remainder of the imperial army show up and advance.

Turn 3: Hammerhead moves back in anticipation of the multimelta speeders but fires and takes out the greyknight dreadnaught. The crisis suit closes within 6 inches and lays a fusion blast into the front armor of the remaining dreadnaught and takes it out. Due to tau intense firing lines, imperials divert all forces to the right side of the street in order to engage the chaos troops. One of my shas'o is diverted to support chaos troops. The remaining 9 tau crisis suits go up the street and fire at the incoming grey knight terminators and take out 4 out of the eight (damn invuln saves). Chaos marines manage to take out the tank that shocked the tau troops earlier. Blood angels and dreadnaught charges chaos forces. Manages to take out all of them except for the lords. The lords take out the remainder. More space marines advance. Speeders advance and are in firing

Turn 4: The shas'o unit diverted to the chaos group fires at one of the land speeders with a fusion cannon and takes it out. Chaos rocket launcer or something takes out the other one. Daemonettes are summoned and advance. Everyone else continues to advances as well. Hammerhead fires at the blood angel furioso but doesn't dent it. All units advance towards the town square objective on the middle of the board. Grey knights and blood angels fire a focus blanket of shells into the chaos space marines and decimate an entire unit.

Turn 5: The shas'o unit diverted to the chaos group attacks and picks off the blood angel hero's retinue. Other crisis units continue to decimate all space marines on their flank. The other shas'o crisis unit completely annhialates the space marine squad down to 1 man w/ rapid fire plasma rifles and missle pods. In the assault phase, the Shas'o crisis unit charges and wounds the blood angel hero twice and eliminates the remaining members of his retinue. Chaos summons daemonettes that rip to shreads a squad of depleted space marines and consolidates into another. The untouched chaos space marines advance into the objective. In vengeance, the hero retaliates and eliminates two of the shas'os bodyguard with some sort of glowing hammer. Chaos marines move into the objective. Hammerhead fires at furioso but fails to pierce armor. Greyknight terminators advance and fire with support of the greyknight space marines and take out a crisis suit squad. blood angels and greyknights move in to engage chaos marines in close combat and shas'o. The shas'o is eliminated and fails to take out any chaos troops this unit manages to consolidate into another unit of crisis suits. Blood angels lose 3 marines to chaos space marine onslaught.

Turn 6: Last turn, Chaos takes care of its flank as it fires and charges the remaining space marine unit from grey knights and blood angels. Markedly, it takes out the blood angels that were in close combat w/ the crisis unit. Crisis suits take out all but 2 of the greyknight terminators and the remainder of the greyknight space marines. Hammerhead fires at the dreadnaugh furioso and again, does not penetrate its armor. Imperials concede defeat as the crisis suit and hammer head enter the objective zone as well as the Chaos HQ squad. Blood angels were completely annhialated except for their furioso and the greyknights had 2 terminators and 1 space marine.

Sorry if that was all confusing. It's my first battle report. If I do anymore I'll be a bit more clear. My analysis of the battle: I'm the first real tau player in this gaming group. A few people tried it but eventually gave up so the army wasn't truly explored. This was the first time I built a crisis suit centric army and as such, they generally left my crisis suits and my hammer head alone in order to concentrate their fire on chaos marines and firewarriors. Big mistake. Lesson: Don't let crisis suits out of the bag and into your flank. They will fly circles around your army and with 3+ armor saves and 2 wounds, they're not something you want to shrug off.

500 point list:

3 broadside w/ shield drones
8 fire warriors
1 shas'o fire knife

Turns out the Chaos tyranid army won on the other sub table so the main army of imperial guard (i think he had about 2000 points.) got 600 points worth of infrant taken off or something. I wasn't to clear. The victory on our board caused all morale checks on the main board to be taken at -1. Unfortunately, by the looks of things, they didn't really need it. The orc army on the left flank was completely decimated in the face of 4 tanks. The thousand sun army was holding their own in the middle but the lord of change had 3 wounds on it. one more would have taken it out. The other chaos army on the right flank was in the face of 3 tanks and a vindicator. The tanks were pretty much untouched except that 3 of them lost their main weapons. The other 8 tanks were still in commission. Not only that, the imperials at the top of the turn deployed one more landraider.

Main battle:

bottom of Turn 4:
My army started in reserve. 2 broadsides came in. They fired immediately. It took out a leman russ. the other one failed to do any damage this turn. Chaos blastmasters managed to stun the land raider. Two waves of tyranids came to replace the orcs on the left flank. It was a sea of tyranids heading towards the tanks supplemented by 2 carnificies and 2 hive tyrants.

Top of turn 5: Grey knight dreadnaughts reinforcements come in near the vanquisher. Vanquisher fired on the tyranids on the other side of the board. Took out 12 out of the 20 bases. Lord of change fell this turn. The remaining T-suns in the middle fall near the walls of the fortress. The tanks focus on the chaos army on the right flank and they do minor damage. The take out one of the greater demons though (I forget the name)

Bottom of Turn 5: Another group of chaos marines are deployed this turn and quickly fill up holes in the offense. Orc replenishment comes in consisting of one tank. Last broadside comes in. Shas'o comes in. The shas'o surfs among the wave of tyranids. Tyranids do damage to sisters of battle but fail to do any damage to the tanks they continue to advance. Two of the broadsides do no damage, but one scores a hit and destroys the vanquisher. Tyranids breathe a sigh of relief.

Top of Turn 6: Loss of the Vanquisher was a wake up call to the imperial guard of the existence of broadsides. Two lemun russes fire at the broadside. They manage to take out two shield drones. The other two broadsides are left alone as they fire on the tyranids and destroy more chaos space marines. The orc tank is destroyed and laughed off the board.

bottom of Turn 6: Fire warriors deploy center of the board and advance. This is the turn of the broadside. They all destroy a tank each this turn. 3 lemun russes are taken out. Chaos heavy squads take out the 2 dreadnaughts this turn. Effectively, this turn, Chaos have 3 of the 10 vehicles that was untouched. The shas'o continues to surf the wave of tyranid into firing range and take out several sisters.

Top of turn 7: Realizing the broadsides were dangerous, they went after them with what remained of their artillery but failed to do any damage. One battlecannon centered on the shas'o and blew it off the face of the game. More CC against chaos space marines.

Bottom of turn 7: Fire warriors advance. A broadside blows out one of the fortresses walls -- the ones with the pesky rocket launcers and imperial guards lose 3 models on it. The other one destroys a tank weapon and the last broadside fails to damage anything. Fire warriors fire at a greyknight terminator squad a manage to take out one of them. Tyranids rip through one of the 3 tanks and continue the advance into the army of sisters. Chaos right flank wins and consolidates as it advances into the enemy lines.

Top of 8: Imperials futiliy fire at tyranids as chaos reach the fortresses walls and begins their assent. At this point I had to leave for work so I quit the field

Analysis: I know this battle report's kinda one sided towards tau but hey it was my perspective on the mega battle. I may have left some important info out and for that I apologize. Was tau the MVP? No. There was another chaos player that withstood an onslaught and still had quite a few models at the end of the mega battle. But the broadsides did provide the firing support that was needed to soften up the defense. The tyranids played a huge factor as its heard charged into the the left flank. But the broadsides were responsible for 6 out of the 10 vehicle kills excluding a walker. (I wasn't aiming for the tank but the game master said hey, u can't hit the lemun russ without hitting the walker. So I said ok walker's dead then). Again, they left tau alone so that it could do some major damage.

Lesson to everyone: DO NOT LEAVE TAU ALONE!!! we have a philosophy among us shas'o. Nuke 'em till they glow, pick 'em off at night.

Caz

testing my ignore function

it's always nice to see grey knights get blasted, I can't stand them. I don't mind daemonhunters who use gk and IST or a heretical inq. but the solid "I have 40 terminators" grey knight armies ***** me off to no end.
