Shadows is not much of a threat to the Knights either. All they have to do is take a brotherhood banner in each squad and bye-bye large scary monsters, as one wound will kill them, and since the knights will be likely armed with halbers so going before our big gribblies, they aren't going to lose too many fights.

Ah, true. But unless you're running an all terminator/paladin army, not everyone can take the banner. And on a paladin army that is starved for points, the banners are not usually a high priority upgrade.

I am going to run an all termy army for mine. I doubt any paladins though. But for the prices GW want for GK's it may as well be termies. 23 quid for 5 basic marines or 28 for 5 termies. I may as well run the termies for the extra fiver, 5 man ordinary squads aren't worth having imho, far too much likelihood of getting squished. I'd rather run 3 ten man termie units. Can always combat squad them if needs must. And one could always be Paladins. In fact in the same monetary cost as 3 normal squads I could run 2 and 2 five man paladins.

I haven't played for ages so please excuse my ignorance. Your opponent made mistakes and you forgot something, for example shooting with your Dreadnoughts. Ok, you were lucky sometimes, you killed two Carnifexes with normal troops, how did that happen? You completely erased Tyranids from the table and won 14-3, was this because the experience difference between the two of you plus you had a better suited army or/and are Grey Knights a wee bit over powered? Remember this is sincere questions and almost no insinuations are made.

GK's were just too much for nids to handle in 5th ed, unless the skill lvl of the Nid player far exceeded that of the GK player, and even then it was a struggle. As for the "troops taking out 2 carnifex", all GK units have force weapons, so GK's stab+delete Nid MCs if the psychic test is passed.

Hope that clears a few things up for you chaospling

No prob. Grey knights were considered by many to be probably the strongest codex back in 5th edition (now 6th edition is out). With the amount of firepower they had and army-wide force weapons for each and every grey knight, grey knights were one of the tougher armies for tyranids to fight against.

I did fire my dreadnoughts each and every turn. It's just that if they didn't really do any damage, then I usually don't mention it.

Back when I did this battle, we were both relatively inexperienced. This was right after the new GK codex came out and only my 2nd or 3rd game with them (first time using the dreadknight and interceptors). As for my opponent, the tyranid army is not his. It's actually mine. His experience with it is in playing against me when I was using my nids.
