Alright. For this game I was playing my OTHER true love, Alaitoc craftworld, against a detatchment of deathwing.
We were congregating around a small outpost tower, with adjoining pillboxes, etc scattered about. We rolled randomly and got alpha rule leve.
9 Banshees (exarch with executioner)
5 swooping hawks (in reserve, exarch with power weapon and sustained assault)
2 Vypers (ctms, brightlances)
1 Vyper (ctm, brightlance)
Landraider with machine spirit, transports kitted out librarian (new codexes arrived yesterday) and 4 others, one of which was an apothecary
5 Termies (2 with autocannons)
5 Termies (2 with cyclone missle launchers)
1 Dreadnought (lascannon, storm bolter, dreadnought ccw)
1 Dreadnought (lascannon, storm bolter, dreadnought ccw, some 20 pt venerable upgrade that let him make me re-roll rolls on the damage chart)
My pathfinders made a move into the 4+ cover in the bunkers, while my other forces spread out behind cover and behind a ridge, so he couldn't see my d-cannons or vypers
His forces started out on the far board edge. For ranger disruption, I could only affect 2 squads, so my pathfinders shot at one, killing a terminator, and my rangers shot at the other, doing nothing. He got first turn.
Dw turn 1
He moved his landrader up 6", disembarked his squad, his other squads moved up, and the dreadnoughts did likewise.
His librarian used the d3 s5 ap- psychic power, to horribly devastating effect, killing 3 pathfinders (3 1's!!! a vyper, two out of the four guardians for one of my d-cannon batteries, so I could barely still use it, and a ranger. OUCH!!! the remainder of his shooting picked off another pathfinder and a few more rangers.
Alaitoc turn 1
vypers moved and shot at the landraider, shaking its crew, and then they moved back. my d-cannons plopped a shell on the head of the librarian (only model in range) and instant-killed him (failed his 4+ inv sv). The apothecary couldn't stop this fatal wound. Their squad was pinned.
His turn 2
His shooting wiped out the rest of the dwindled pathfinder squad, and took out a few more rangers, while his troops advanced, landraider picking up the command squad and moving forward, confronting a lone ranger on the field of battle.
My turn 2
The ranger had vindication when the right flank D-cannons lobbed a shell over his head and annihilated the landraider, taking the 4 termies inside to a flaming doom. They heard a booming voice lament, "well, there goes half my army!"
The D-Cannons also took out a dreadnought*. Things were looking up, even as his shooting robbed me of my rangers!
His turn 3
His troops advanced more, the accursed cyclone missle launchers robbling me of nearly another whole squad of rangers in the ruins. I also lost a banshee that was peeking out of cover due to the accuracy of the far 4-man terminator squad
My turn 3
I took out 2 out of the 4 termies close to the tower (objective) in a squad with shooting and a blast template from the hawks, who deepstriked onto the tower, while the four termies on the other flank also sought to congregate in that direction. The 2-man squad was backed up by the remaining dreadnought, whom I sought to charge with my avatar, which was a little out of range (about a quarter of an inch! . Oops!
His turn 4
His 2 termies and dreadnought charged but failed to kill my avatar (1 wound left after being lascannoned and power fisted repeatedly! I made 2 out of 2 5+ inv svs! while the avatar immobolized the dread (stupid venerable upgrade...) His far squad also caused some casualties amongst my rangers, I'm sure.
My turn 4
My d-cannons blew up his far squad of 4 termies, while my hawks, banshees, and avatar finished off the termies and dreadnought. Game over
Results: Alaitoc Victory (8 banshees, 5 swooping hawks, wounded avatar, 2 vypers, 5 rangers, 2 squads of 2 D-Cannons each manned by 2 guardians left on the board.)
At that point I had five rangers left on the board! Out of 30 rangers and pathfinders! WOW! I did very badly on the cover saves in that game. The first (and only) psychic power horrified me. Pieces of the match go to my d-cannons, who accounted for literally over half his army with their deadly accuracy. However, credit to the terminators for pumping out impressive firepower and shrugging off D-cannon shots a good portion of the time.
*I should also note that one time I shot a D-cannon at a termie unit that was out of range anyway, and it scattered on to a dreadnought that was flanking their position. Also, throughout the game, he was spacing his units far apart even BEFORE I started shooting at him, so the new centering rules for blast templates did come into play.
lol nice battle report i luv those D-Cannons...and the goodold spacing out, always does the trick
According to the rules once you pick a person to shoot with D-cannons or any other weapons like them, if the guy is out of range then the shot doesnt even land on the table.
so that dread would have lived.
Well, I apologise for that oversight, but HE was the one who was quoting from the rulebook and was telling me how my D-Cannons worked  so he deserves what he gets.
