Terrain: A burntout industrial park. The center piece was a small forested park. There were 2 hills on the western half of the board, one large one in the southwestern quater and one on the edge of the north western quarter. In the northeast, there was a 7 story building on the table edge, with a ruined building foundation just to the right of it. In the southwest quarter, there was a small, destroyed bunker and a large factory in disrepair.

First turn Night fight: Went to Tyranids
The Salamander forward detachment had taken position in the ruins of the old industrial park. Dawn had yet to break as they moved forward. 3 assault squads supported by a dreadnaught lumbered through the wrecked buildings. Suddenly the night erupted in shrieks and cannon fire. Gaunts began swarming from the distance. 4 wailing bolts of acid struck the Rhino in the NE quarter. The armor held and the Marines returned the favor. The rising sun played havok with thier sensors, and only the sharp eyed snipers could find any targets. The first two gaunts to round the hill were taken down, scattering the rest.
Once dawn broke, the Marines saw just what they were up against. The squad in the NW were assaulted by Gaunts before they could get a second volley off. A massive, winged Tyrant came crashing through the woods of the park before the Dreadnaught and the squad accompaning him. A blast of psychic energy barely missed the hulk of metal, blasting a huge gout of earth behind it. The Rhino and Land speeder broke cover and swept towards the center. 4 more shoot of acid rained down on the Rhino from the treeline, managing to gunk up the gun turrets but not doing any lasting damage. The snipers and assault squad in the saftey of the building rained down projectile death on the Tyrant. Non of the rounds were able to pierce the beast's hide. The Dreadnaught's missles and plasma scorched the earth were the Tyrant stood, but it was to fast and dodged the attacks.
The gaunts made short work of the squad in the NW and surged toward the Dread and the Tyrant. As they did so, the other squad charged from behind the factory, but the Salamanders command squad was waiting for them. Flamers spewed firey redemption into the animals, as did the barrels of the Land Speeder. All but 2 of the squad were turned to hot ash, but they charged wildly forward into the waiting Marines. From behind the trees, the Ravener slithered forward to assist the gaunts, slaying two Marines outright and wounding one greviously enough to put him out of the fight. The gaunt's attacks bounced harmlessly off the marines, and were soon put down. 4 more blasts from the obscured Carnifex slammed into the Land Speeder, tearing huge rents throught the vital engine housing. It slammed uncontrolably into the factory wall, erupting into a fireball above the melee.
Meanwhile, the gaunts slammed into the 6 man squad as the Tyrant joined with the Dread. The powerful, diamond hard blades of the Tyrant punched straight through the walkers thick armor to the pilot inside. It's arms fell dead to it's sides. Behind, the guants again swept over the marines like a carnivorous tide.
Seeing the carnage going on beneath them, both squads in the building fired full volleys into the Tyrant. The only blasts that had any effect came from the plasma rifles. As the firing continued, the Chaplian moved around his squad to take on the slithering beast. It's claws bit deep into the marines armor, but his resolve held and the Hammer of the Drake came crashing down into the beast's skull, ending it.
The Tyrant sensed defeat behind her. The Dreadnaught no longer a threat, she wheeled into the sky and shot for the recovering command squad, willing the gaunts into the building to flush out the enemy. She fired a bolt of warp energies into the squad, but they managed to roll out of range as the blast atomized a 6' crater. The marines returned the favor with a full blast of bolter and plasma fire. One of the rifleman disentegrated as his weapon backlashed into him, but not before the concentrated fire tore through the tyrant's body. As she lay dying, the Carnifex sent four more bolts up to the roof. The snipers managed to duck behind the air conditioning ducts as the blasts rained in. Below them, they heard the screams of their commrades as the gaunts swarmed up the stairwell.
Just as the gaunts surged up to the roof, one of the Rhinos immobilized itself in the trees, trying to flush the Carnifex and Guard from the woods. The command squad moved in to rapid fire blindly, but none of their shots were able to wound the creatures inside.
With sounds of more Tyranids behind them, and the death screams of the sniper squad above them, the Chaplian decided the one viable Rhino left would best be used to bring news of the defeat back to main lines, so they could prepare for the assault that was no doubt on the way.
Well, I'm sure I screwed up on the Salamanders force. I didn't get a look at his army list (I think he was abit miffed I made it to HtH on turn 2), so I had to guess at what the squads were. The numbers are right, as are the weaponry. With the unscathed Carni/Guard squad on the area we were to take and hold, I won the mission by almost 250 points. The only thing I think I did wrong was try to assault the command squad with the Tyrant. I fell short (hence, she died to a lot of rapid fire). Instead, I should have flown her to the roof (flat terrain) and eaten the sniper squad. The Carni would have been safe from HtH for a turn, as he was too deep in the woods to be reached.
A solid victory according to the chart. I didn't bother writing the battle report by turns. Instead, I tried to write it as if all the action happened simultaniously, and hopefully I pulled it off.

-Arnoldunit Schwarzenecronegger; when questioned about the impending doom he would rain down upon the heads of his doomed enemies.
Way to go bugz!!
I really liked the way you put it into a story format. Very nice victory.
Nice battle indeed
But don't be sad, your HT get respawned soon

Yay! Go Nids! Great battle report, I liked the story based format, seems more dramatic than turn based however it is a little harder to follow flow of battle, still I loved it!
