Okay, I'm trying to get as much of the lists and order of events right as possible,so some of this may seem inconsistent.
battle I played yesterday as nids against an alpha legion player:any ideas/ comments/ suggestions?Nids list.
1 winged HT, usual cc statline upgrades, 2x talons, psychic scream, warp blast.
4 cc leaping warriors
2x 16 spinegaunts
2x 16 combat gaunts (leaping, S, I upgrade, Scy tal)
Dual VC fex.
Lord, D.speed, D. aura, D. armour, D. Mutation, D. strength, wind of chaos, Sorceror, MC’d Lightning claws, Infiltrate, Furious Charge.
2 10 man combat squads, champion, mc lightning claws
All furious charge, infiltrate, possibly a melta gun or more.
2 9 man havok squads, 4 missile launchers, second with 3 heavy bolters, infiltrate.
5 man Raptor squad, asp. Champion, mc lightning claws. 3 meltaguns, furious charge, infiltrate
10 cultists, furious charge, infiltrate, meltabombs, champion possibly with power weapon.
I think all had mark of chaos undivided. Other upgrades included frag grenades, meltabombs and various auspexes and psykers.. Can’t remember exactly what on
4’ by 6’ board. I chose table edge to deploy from
Basically there was a non los blocking but 4+ cover ruin in the middle of the left hand short side of the board. From that on my side there was smallish wood about 1/3 of the way down the board, then a large pyramid type terrain piece right in my zone, then a larger wood just out of my deployment zone. On his side there were 3 hills spread through the deployment zone. And some LOS blocking silo’s (baked bean tins) next to the ruin but equidistant from each deployment zone.
We rolled for mission and it came up as recon.
I set up lictors in the first smaller wood hoping he would try to deploy near it.
He deployed first and set up his squad of cultists in a big line 2 apart at the edge of his deployment zone, 15 into the board.
I then had to deploy the rest of my army. The carnie stood next to the huge pyramid type thing in my deployment zone with one squad of spinegaunts right next to him (on the left) the hormagaunts deployed next to that and the hive tyrant stood behind them.
On the other side of the pyramid the second combat gaunt squad set up with the spinegaunts on their flank. The warriors stood behind them. I lost the roll for infiltrating so had to infiltrate after he set up his army. He infiltrated both havoc squads onto the hill in his deployment zone on my right flank, both combat squads went on the hill next to that. His lord deployed next to them in the centre of his zone and the raptors stood behind the baked bean tins. I then infiltrated genestealers behind the second wood on the right flank.
I won the roll for first turn.
Everything ran forward. (predictable?) the genestealers instead of running into the wood however decided to stand behind it to stay out of sight. The HT jumped into the ruin and took a blast shot at the raptors (which missed) the carnie unloaded 4 VC shots into the cultists killing 3 of them. The gaunts and warriors all Foc’d forward, Putting my leftmost combat gaunts in range of the raptors, which they proceeded to charge. They killed 3 raptors and lost 2 gaunts.
-His turn he moved his cultists towards the combat everything else stayed put.
The havocs fired into their only available target; one of my spinegaunt squads, annihilating all of them. The combat saw me kill all 3 cultists that were inrange and one raptor. The gaunts lost 2 of their number. Both chaos squads passed their morale test.
The tyrant leapt behind the cans (other side of the combat meanwhile everything advanced and foc’d. the carnie fired at the closes raptor squad missing consistently with every shot. My other squad of gaunts go into charging range of both havocs due to some incredibly lucky difficult terrain (moving through the wood) and fleet of claw rolling. They proceeded to charge both squads at once here they killed 4 havoks while losing around 4 of their number while the genestealers took up their positions in the cover at the edge of the forest. The warriors would get into cc next turn. In combat the last spinegaunt squad charged the cultists. This saw me wipe out both squads. Which both proceeded to consolidate towards his lord.
-His turn saw his lord sense the danger of being charged by a full squad of gaunts and ran towards my stealers. One combat squad saw the same opportunity and moved towards the stealers in cover. Sadly they were about ½ out of range. The lord’s impressive 12 charge saw him assault the genestealers. (that’s right, charge into the mincing machine…) and the last combat squad into the combat gaunts currently occupying is havocs. The gaunts took impressive casualties on the havocs but were completely wiped out. The genestealers failed to rend but only two of them were in range of his attacks. The proximity to the warriors meant they didn’t fall back.
The remaining left flank gaunts charged the unengaged combat squad, the warriors charged the combat squad protecting the havocs. The tyrant meanwhile flew forward and the carnifex moved and opened fire on the havocs, failing to wound them.
Combat saw the genestealers inflict 4 rending hits on the lord, which he inv saved 3 of he killed 3 in return. The warriors rended 4 combat marines and killed another normally, they lost one of their number to the champion.
-his turn, the fired at the tyrant with 4 missiles and 3 heavy bolters, inflicting one wound.
Tyrant flew onto the hill in the centre of my deployment zone and warp blasted a havoc, the carnifex again failed to kill anything. The genestealers killed the lord and consolidated towards the last combat squad. Another 6 saw me reach them. The gaunts tied up the last combat squad while the warriors annihilated their opponents.
(his 5th turn was solely combat so I just tied it in with mine)
The tyrant and carnie charged into the remaining combat squad (the one the gaunts had tied down) (there were only 3 marines left too) the tyrant wiped out all 3 of them while the warriors and stealers finished of the havocs.
6th turn, I moved everything I could into his deployment zone to claim 2034 victory points, whilst he got 645 points.
Result: victorious slaughter.
I admit a lot of it was incredibly lucky dice rolling but charging genestealers? What was he thinking? And it was his infiltrating skill that got most of his stuff into charge range in the first place.
wow the nids finally win something
my Genestealer haiku:
Genestealers get shot
sometimes they make close combat
then they slice off limbs
<a href='http://kevan.org/brain.cgi?newdeathdealer' target='_blank'>oooooohhhhhhhh button!</a>
nids always win... jokes...
bahhh once the TMC's (tyranid montrous creatures), it's massacre.... especilaly against marines... hive tyrant and carnifex... crazy CC capabilities
aahhh the carniflex barely killed anything. I'm also suprised the lord charged your genestealers
Common sense isn't common.
Thats sad, he tried to take on genestealers with something all by itself.... Dont you hate how slow carnis move? Otherwise you mighta killed a bunch of marines.
Back from a long adventure.
