Today my friend came over and brought over his new minis, 16 CSMs. So, I showed him how to play. Although he didn't have an HQ choice, we played anyway. To avoid too much complication on his first game, we just ditched the points costs and each took 16 guys. (I took 15, no HQ choice to be fair) We also didn't use any special equipment. Also, since I wanted to show him the mechanics of the game, we didn't play with morale and stuff like that, just straight out combat, really.
The CSM had taken control of a SM bunker, which I had to regain. By the end of turn 8, no CSM forces could be within the bunker.
Space Marine Forces: (me)
-Five man Combat Squad (four Bolters, one Flamer)
-Five man Combat Squad (four Bolters, one Missile Launcher)
-Five man Assault Squad (four Bolt Pistol/Chainsword, one Plasma Pistol/Chainsword)
Chaos Space Marine Forces: (him)
-8 man Squad (six Bolters, one Heavy Bolter, one Bolt Pistol/Chainsword)
-8 man Squad (four Bolters, three Bolt Pistol/Chainsword, one Heavy Bolter)
SM: I went first. I started around four feet from the bunker, out of range from all weapons. I moved all my squads up their maximum distance, hiding my Assault Squad behind a wall.
CSM: The CSM started with one Squad in the bunker, and the other acting as "reinforcements," arriving just in the nick of time. They started about one foot behind the bunker. The Squad in the bunker fidgeted a bit, gaing better position (the bunker was L-shaped) and the second Squad took cover behind some dragon teeth.
SM: I moved my Assault Squad towards his bunker, taking cover behind another wall. My Squad with the Flamer moved towards the tank traps, out of cover. My Squad with the Launcher aimed a shot at a barely-visible body, and landed a shot. No one was wounded.
CSM: He moved the squad by the tank traps closer to my Flamer squad, and prepared to fire. Next turn, his weapons would reach.
SM: I moved my Assault Squad just outside his bunker, next turn, they would get inside. I left the squad with the Launcher as it was, and moved my Flamer squad up. Next turn, my Bolters would reach. I again fired with my Launcher in the same spot, and Wounded two of his minis. Two down...
CSM: He moved the squad by the traps up even closer, rather than firing. He was now around eight inches away from me, and he opened fire. Three shots hit, no casualties.
SM: Now in range, my Assault Squad opened up the bunker and stormed inside. My Launcher fired another missile, and took out another one of his men. My squad by the traps opened up with a storm of Bolters, followed by a nice blast from a Flamer (which just reached), killing only two men. My AS attacked with a fury of melee attacks, and in a bloody battle, I lost a man.
CSM: His forces in the bunker moved to confront the AS, and my Launcher no longer had a clear shot. His squad by the traps attacked, with a crap load of shots, around ten) and around seven or so connected, wounding only one of my men.
SM: Everything was going well, I had my AS in his bunker, and my squad by the traps was holding up quite well. However, my Launcher was now ineffective, and I needed reinforcements up in the traps. I moved them up towards the traps. My squad by the traps opened up with six bolter shots, and a Flamer attack. After everything, he lost one man. My AS faught well, only to lose two more men, only killing one of his.
CSM: With my weakened AS, the bunker was his. However, his defense at the traps was failing, and my men would soon break the line and reinforcements would poor into his bunker. He attacked my squad at the traps, eliminating no one. Inside the base, I killed one of his men, losing none.
SM: My strategy was crapping out... I was losing to a player who had only played one game... uh, whoops. Anyway, my AS pretty much got boned, and I was stuch on what to do with my Launcher's squad. Should I move it to reinforce with Bolters (which I wouldn't be able to use until next turn) or fire down with the Launcher? I fired with the Launcher, and took out one man. He was down to four by the traps. My squad by the traps shifted, and my Flamer connected with two of his men, and I shot sic bolter shots, eliminating them all. Yay. My AS attacked and took out a man, and lost none.
CSM: With my out-numbered AS in his base, he quickly attacked. We broke even, one for one.
SM: The end drew nearer as my Launcher squad moved upwards, and my forces by the traps were still a good two turns away from reaching the bunker (around ten inches, if I had to guess), so I did what I could with them. I attacked with my one-manned AS and killed one of his men, but lost my fianl man. My AS had been defeated.
CSM: His remaining two men took cover within the bunker, as my Flamer squad approached.
Turn 8 (final turn):
SM: My squad was now in the bunker, and my Launcher squad was pretty much ineffective. Oh well. Anyways, I attacked with three Bolter shots and a barrage of Flame. I killed one man. I had lost.
CSM: Although he won, he attacked with his lone man. Surprisingly, he killed one of my Marines.
Although I was teaching the game, please make sure that I worked it properly... I'm kind of foggy on melee, what we did doesn't seem right.

Very good write-out, I could actually tell what was going on. It's cool to see that you were more concerned about having fun and teaching your friend then trouncing him and dancing over his noob corpse.
Of course, SM vs CSM battles are always great.
Record as of 26 December for my Static Tau Cadre.
10 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw.
Last game: Victory over Necron in a 600 point "kill em all" that lasted til turn 10 ending with a phase out.
cool report, although the blue was killing my eyes lol, from what i could tell everything was running the way it should and as Metabolic said "It's cool to see that you were more concerned about having fun and teaching your friend then trouncing him and dancing over his noob corpse."
Good report and sounds like a fun little game i might try just a troop battle lol.
