So, me and a couple of freinds had a crazy battle a little while ago, and I want to share it with you. Unusually for me, this BR would have very little fluff, as I want you to know clearly what happened:
Emepror's Champion Bachus-105
Master of sanctity
Squad Fist- 215
10 initiats, BP & CCW, 1 Flamer, 1 Power Fist and CCW
4 Neophytes, BP & CCW
Squad Flame- 105
6 initiates, Bolters, 1 Plasma Cannon
Venerable-Brother Artemis- 163
Elder Biel Tan (this isn't my army, so it won't be so detailed)
rune of witnessing
10 striking scorpions-172
1 exarch with Scorpions Claw
10 Warp Spiders- 247
1 exarch with Hit & Run
Falcon grav-tank -190
TL Shurikan Catapults
(This is the part where I totally don't know, since I never saw the army list)
Command HQ (really spartan, somthing like 55 points worth)
4 squads each (see heavy weaponary in the deployment description, all squads had some kind of speacial weapon, mostly plasma and grande launchers)
A harned veteran squad.
2 Leman russes (again, stripped to bear minimum exept hull lascannons)
3 sentinal squads, 1 sentinal each. one had multilaser, one lascannon, and one Deathworld sentinal.
Now, here lies the craziness of the battle. The IG player wanted to play "Like IG should be played", with maximum models and as much ordinace he could muster. He originaly had 10 squads, but ran out of troops... So, its the BT and elder's 41 models VS the IG's 111 models (inculding 11 heavy weapon, 11 special weapons and 3 ordinances)...
Directions: South- Allied deployment zone, North-IG deployment zone, East & West.
Board: Its a classical 4X8 board, with many tarrein features like rock spires and ruins. The important ones (ones that had a bearing on this battle) are a large house smack in the middle of the table, a large rock shelf in the IG's western Deployment zone, a ruin in the other side (East) of the IG's deployment zone, and a ruin near the Allied (aka BT and Eldar) eastren side of the deployment zone. A large rock shelf was positioned in the middle of the board, but some inches western to the house.
Deployment: The Elder and BT decided that when outnumbered, a flank attack is in order. So, and began deploying in the south eastern corner of the board. Venerable-Brother Artemis deployed as forward as he could and as eastren as he could, and Emperor's Champion Bachus deployed behind him. The Elder Falcon deployed a little bit to the west, to better aime at the Leman russ' side armor.
Next to them deployed Squad skull lead by Brother-Chaplain Drusus, ready to move in order to occupy the ruins and deployed in the anti ordinance stance (maximum space). A little to the west Squad Flame was deployed, ready to move into the building and also deployed to minimize blast casualties.
next to them were the Striking scorpions and the farseer, ready to surge forward to the IG line, and and the fast moving Warp spiders deployed a little to the west of them, ready to strike the IG on the Flank.
The IG were deployed as a solid line, about two squads deep, but each squad were deolyed in two lines, a 5 man forward line with the special weapon and a couple of inches back a second line of five with the heavy weapon (so there were actually 4 lines deep of gaurdsmen in each section, and each line about 10 guardsmen wide). There were three sections, each with either a tank or a board edge in each side.
A 45 men estren section, with 2 plasmaguns and two granade launchers, and also a heavy bolter, 2 autocannons and a mortar. In it's east flank were the vets with two more plasmaguns and a lascannon, to it's east was a russ, and forward from it (due to it Scout rule), the lascannon sentinal. This forces targeted that armor and the BT.
The middle section was made up of 40 guardsmen, with a couple of plasmaguns and a couple of granade luanchers, and also with a lascannon, a couple of missile launchers and a heavy bolter. It was flanked to the east by the russ, to the west by the basilisk (deployed behind the rock shelf), and in it's middle was the other
The smallest section was the western, conssisting with just the command HQ and a command section, and flanked by the bassilisk to the east and the end of the board to the west, and infornt of them were both remaining sentinals.
So, after this horridaly long prolouge, the IG rolled first turn and the game began!
Brother-Chaplain Drusus looked at the endless lines of the traitors, stretched as far as the eyes could see. He spat on the ground, loathing these heretics, not only because they turned to chaose, but because they forced him to ally with the foul Xenos, the Elder. He hated the Elder som much, that when the purposed an allience he was unsure weather to aacept or just butcher them on the spot. Well, he thought with a grin, there is enough time to do both...
With a roar the first barrage of the IG began, as all heavy weapons opened up on the allied lines. most fire went to Squad skull, as the enemy feared their prowess in combat. And. with usuall IG marksmenship, most shots did almost nothing at all.
When the smoke cleared and the ground stoped shking, the only casualties that ware inflicted is 4 initiats from squad Skull, one from squad Flame, two scorpions, a warp spider, and a shaken dread.
All squads that had to take tests (The two Black Templars squads, as they were hit by the bassilisk) either passed them easily or were fearless.
The whole allied lines moved forward. The dread moved and popped smoke, hiding himself and the Champion that stood behind him. Squad Skull moved to cover in the ruins, and squad flame moved towards the house. The Falcon moved a bit forward in order to take a shot at the russ' side, which he dually missed, and the scorpions moved and took cover in the rock shelf and were blessed by fotune from their seer.
The fast moving spiders moved into range of the multilaser sentinal, shot him (and quite logically blow him to bits) and than jumped back.
TURN 2- IG
Again the IG tried their luck on allied lines. This time, the result wasn't poot, they were simplly unexistant. With all the firepower they could muster, the only casualties were a couple of initiats from squad skull and a scorpion. The only successes were against the allied armor, as the lascannons and misslie launchers blow the nighty dread (yes, that means he threw six and that another six at the glancing table, but with all that firepower it's not that unreasonable). The falcon, however, just shrugged every anti-tank weapon fired at him. As a last resort, the autocannon was tilted to it's way, and with some lucky rolls, imobilized and shook it.
Again, the allied line marched further, knowing that they were now withing lasgun range of the IG lines. The Champion, now without cover, moved towards the sentinal, ready to engage him. The elder also moved, with the scorpions charging forward, were again blessed by the seer, and the warp spiders moced forward, smashing the Deathworld sentinal and returning to cover.
Although the IG's fire in the las turns was poor, they were now in range to use thier lasguns, so the entire army burst with fire. The Templars bore the brunt of the barrage, and although their mighty armor and robust bodies were usually no match for the puny flashlights of their foes, the sheer velocity of the fire could not be shrugged of.
Squad Flame lost two of it's numbers, and Squad skull, who was shot by all the ordinance and most of the AT guns in the Ig army, were totally butchered, leaving the chaplain standing alone, unscathed.
The Falcon was mostly ignored, so the only solid hit scored against him was reduced as the anciant spirit within took control of the guns after a krak missile blast threw the gunner from his place.
The other Elder forces also went largly ignored, and only suffred about two more deathes in the warp spiders squad and a killed scorpion (These re-rollable 3+ save are really powerfull against small arms fire....)
This is the turn that the Templars began doing what they were suited to do- ASSAULT.
The Emperor's Champion, who wasn't shot at all last turn, swept forward, shooting his pistol as he went, and blow one of the machines legs. The Chaplain, with no where to go but forward, calmly moved into 12" from IG lines, drew his pistol and blew one of gaursmen head. "Well, thats one less soldiar shooting at me" he said on the commlink, ispiring the others with his coolness.
Squad flame stayed put in order to reduce the icoming fire that would be directed at their leader, and although the bolter-armed initiats sniped two gaursmen with an acurate volly of bolter shells, the plasma cannon decided that this is the best time to malfunctione and blew up, taking the gunner with him.
The Scorpion, who coudln't charge next turn (due to some zigzagin into and out of cover the last turns) decided that they will not let their allies fall alone, and bravly ran into rapid fire distance of the enemy, shot and killed five guradsmen. The Fraseer again blessed the squad, and meanwhile killed a plasmagunner, turning his mind to goo.
However, the brave guardsmen, seeing their brothers mostly alive and the enemy mostly dead, hled their ground.
The Falcon, immobilized but not demmorilized, shot the middle russ and finally destroyed it.
The spiders, deciding to take the on the weaker western section, moved to the west and butchered a command section to a man.
Emperor's Champion Bachus rushed into melee range with the sentinal, holding his mighty Black Sword two handed. He quickly parried the crude machine's blow, and that stroke hard, completly eviscrating his foe, and that jumped forward int almost complete cover in the ruins (the ones on the IG's east flank, near the veterans.
knowing that this is the moment that would decide the battle, the guardsmen lowered their lasguns, ready to blast thier enemies with automatic fire. Plasma guns heated as their gunners were ready to blast the enemy apart, the the tank's guns were leveled at the two remaining squads, the scorpions and the spiders. The scorpions got off cheap, losing only a singel model, but the warp spiders, now very close to the bassilisk, took a direct hit that sent no less than 4 of them burning to the ground. also, the command HQ moved towards them, ready to assault them.
The middle section opened fire on the scorpions, butchering the squad and leaving only a badly wounded farseer, still standing there, defient.
Than, all the fighters looked as the entire east flank open fired on the chaplain (except the veterans, who would be shooting at the Champion). the air burned as a hail of laser, plasma, shells and grandes flew into the proud, but rash, Chaplain. As the smoke became to thick to see, the guarsmend stopped and looked at the place where the Chaplain stood. Slowly the smoke faded, and the mighty hero was still standing, a defient look on his face and nothing but a little flesh wound to his arm (yes, he survived 43 lasgun blasts, 3 plasma blasts, 2 krak granades, a morter shell and six heavy bolter shells)!!!
Not only has the chaplain survived, but both plasmagunners blew themselves up!
The veterans tried to fire at the Champion, but where to amazed at the Chaplain's survival, and all the shots were either missed of couldn't penetrate the Champion's robust frame or ornate armor.
The command HQ charged the spiders, the officer at the vanguard of the assualt, but than another miracle (although much smaller) happened, as the quick spiders slew all the guardsmen who got into base contact with them, and than ran over the survivors.
The turn began with the Champion Bachus uttering a war cry and charging the veterans. The mighty Chaplain Drusus, angered by the wound inflicted to him, also chraged towards a squads, the one closest to the russ, trying to destroy the flank in a pincer move with the Champion. The tactical squad, seeing that their firepower was pointless, began moving towards the melee.
The farseer quickly fleet footed his way into charge distance. The shooting began with the Spiders rapid firing the Basilisk, and destroying it in a huge blast, killing an entire squad in the other side.
Champion Bachus, feeling his veins pump with adrnaline, raised his pistol and quickly snapped a shot, killing a veteran. Than he ran forwards, hacking and slashing, and destroyed all three guarsmen who were in base to base with him. The veterans, unable to stop such a mad god, began to flee, only to be caught by the raving Bachus, who killed some and scattred the rest. Moving with the momentum of his combat, he swept into another squad, whose guardsmen where terrified at the site of th hulking black giant.
Chaplain Drusus, seeing inspired by Bachus' heroism, drew his pistol and shot a man down, and that swept into his squad, chopping and slicing. Wehn the killing were over, six men had fallen to the warrior-priest, but the remining guradsman refused to flee, hping to tie down the madman untill help arrived. The chaplain calmly moved to him and, without the IG general's seeing, into base contact with the russ...
The farseer, however, was not such a beast in combat as the Templars, but he made up for it with speed. He quicly sliced a mand in two with his pistol, and than plunged into combat with the human soldiars. He raised his mystic blade, quickly decpitating two soldiars, and ran down the rest whent the turned to flee. he than gracfully glided into another squad, bringing his witchblade closer to the russ.
With things going bad for the IG, they did what they do best-swamped the poor buggers. no less than 20 men charged the chaplain, with another squad and the command section attacking the Champion. The farseer was at even a worse position, as he found twenty guardsmen breathing down his neck. The russ, fearfull of the Elder's deathspinners and witchblade, turned to face them, and shot at the spiders, scattaring harmlessly into the remains of the Basillisk.
The figting in the Templar sied went badly for the IG. In a smart move (if I may say) the Champion challenged the Lt. of the platton, who didn't have a chance against the crazed killing machine. Two of the Squads, seeing their leader fall, ran away, and with startling spped both comletly fled the battlefield (an 11 and a 12 were rolled).
The men attacking Drusus prepered to defend themselves when they realised they weren't the target! all to slowly the russ' commader started to move, not fast enough to doge the meltabomb that attached to his back and blew him away!
The blast was so big, that the Chaplain was wounded again, this time by a flying piece of metal, and no less that 12 guradsmen from the fight against the Chaplain and 4 from the fight against the seer died in the blast!
The IG's bad luck didn't run out there, however. As all the men in base contact with Drusus perished in the blast, he had one the combat (1-0), and one of the squads broke, fleeing out of the board aswell!!! the last squad in combat with Drusus held, however, tring to hold against the Chaplain, even though he was surly blessed by The Emperor (The Dice Emperor!)
The fight against the seer, however, wasn't that eventfull, as he chopped a guardsmen and was than buried under byonats, fists and rocks. The squads moved closer to the Spiders.
TURN 5- Allience
After the amazing last turn there was almost nothing the IG could do, faced with crazy, daunting and mostly, lucky, CC gods. The only thing to do for the Templars was mopping up the survivors. The two initiats from squad Flame, knowing thy would never reach combat, stood and shot at the guardsmen who just killed the farseer, although somhow the both missed.
The Spiders, now the only Elder Squad left, jumped across from the Basillisk and opened up on the 5-man squad, killing all of them. They than jumped back behind the Basillisk for cover.
In combat, things went as expected, with both Drusus and Bachus beating thier foes and that running tham down or chsing them away from the board. Bachus moved aimlessly backwards, but Drusus, thinking he might be of use, jumped towards the last IG squad.
With only 8 models left on the board, the IG had no chance of survival, but they woudln't give up without a fight. They opened fire on the last templar squad, but, disheartened by their impending doom, couldn't kill the mighty warriors.
With just a bit mopping up to do, the allies began shooting at the poor guradsmen. Five fell to the Spiders, two more to the initiats, and the last one was missed by the Chaplain, whose aim faltered as he finally succumbed to the pain of his wounds
Chaplain Drusus walked towards the last survivor of the traitor army, a boy no more than 17 years old. The young warrior tumbeled to the ground, weeping and begging, pleading for Drusus' mercy. "There, there, now" said Drusus, his voice full of forgivnce, "don't worry boy. Repent your heresy and renounce the gods of Chaos and you shall be forgiven".
The boy looked up, his once handsome face covered in blood and dust "I do renounce them, The gods of Chaos are evil!" the boy cried, his eyes shining in happiness of his survivel.
Drusus smiled a big smile, showing his teeth "Good going, boy!" he said as he loaded his pistol "Now you shall have The Emperor's forgivnece as your sould goes to him!" he said and shot the boy in the head, splattreing brains and blood on his face.
In the meantime, The Emperor's Champion, Bachus, walked up to Drusus, and stood by him. "I saved this one" said Drusus, wiping the brains from his face, "He shall have the Emperor's forgivnece". "Aye" replied Bachus "But don' you think that..." He was interrupted as the three Elder survivor walked over to them. Behind them, the other two templars came, flanking them.
"You fight well, Mon Kaigh" said thier leader "and that's why we will not kill you now, but instead leave you to your peace". "That's awufully nice of you, Xeno filth" said Drusus, aiming his gun at them "But I think we shall not let you leave!" he said as the templars opened fire, destroying the Xenos. "Brother Mareal, contact the battle barge, and tell them we need techpriest and medical servitors here, now. Tell Brother-Apothacry Mikel to come down here too" said Drusus and was replied with a "Yes, sir". "We did another good job, Brother Bachus, and there are many more to come..."
So, what do you think?
if at some points the numberes seems wrong, it's just because i've been writing this sporadically at the last four hours, so please excuse me...
wow three charcters levled an army of imperial gaurdsmen just wow!
Which Halo character are you?
You talk alot, you don't do much, but at times you can be invaluable.
A billion chinese can't be wrong - eat rice.
good report though fluff wise i dont think an eldar farseer would allie with black templars in this case as a farseer would see the future of such an event with not too much difficulty and wouldnt trust the emperors champion bachus, though he might have been a young nieve farseer. anyway nice report
Rememver, the farseers can't "see" the future, they can get general ideas of the path to take.
Perhaps the farseer saw danger in allying with the templars but there was greater danger from the traitorous guard.
Dreams give us a vision of a world unlike any we have seen. They present us with a glimpse of a better life; a goal to aspire to, and in the face of insurmountable odds, they provide us with the power to overcome, to live on, and to succeed where we would have otherwise failed.
On the rules front on turn 4 you say that the Spiders blow up the Basalisk and take out a squad with the explosion. However as thier guns are ap- they couldn't penetrate to do this.
I love the bit where the Chaplain uses the tank to blow all the Guardsmen to hel however, really cool.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
Well, I knew that the farseer would see it, but he didn't survive, so the younger and less farseeing exarch of the warp spiders was the one that was betrayed. If the farseer would have survived, I would have changed the ending fluff...Originally Posted by no1cafc
For the rest of you, thanks. also, I would like to point out that the farseer, wich is a much more puny hero that my Chaplain and Champion, just killed one squad(and some change), while my heroes destroyed an entire flank (that had 55 guradsmen, a sentinal and a russ)...
and Wings of Doom, this battle lasted for about six hours, and by the fourth turn we were all kinda tired, so we didn't think about it... altough now I see that you were right (although it would have made no diffrence whatsoever as we won by a pretty good margin...)
I love when HQ characters massacre massed infatry. I once had a Master of the Deathwing wit sword of secrets and powerfist kill 53 Necron warriors (everyone else in his squad was killed before they reached any combat), and he died to Scarabs! It was really cool, however, to see all the bodies piled up (6 S7 power weapon attacks at I6 hurt).
That sounds like an awesome battle, though did he actaully play traitor guard or just for the sake of fluff?
Also, Death the to the arrogant Xenos you have done well brother.
The Dark Angels third company shall thank the emperor this day, for the great victory he bestowed upon you. well done! I love battle reports with fluff.
Qui est Mortis? Lol, the rep... neggatized for something... lol that nobody payed attention too... Lol Goodbye all, BTW This is permanent goodbye so save some bandwidth mods delete this account :D  :D  :D
That sounds like an awesome battle, though did he actaully play traitor guard or just for the sake of fluff?
No, he doesn't play traitor guard, but the armies we usually have are: Templars, Elder, IG and Khorne. So we have play around with the fluff to be able to fight diffrent battles...
