VICTORY TO DARK ANGELS
well know my friend added to his army and nows better to avoid close combat....Now i dread fighting his army at full strength.....
How far apart were your armies??...
Tau are at a serious disadvantage at close range.
To perhaps describe it in one word...
Sounded like he had the odds on his side...
Yes, they were only 18" apart. But then again it's just 500 pts, and aparently the Tau player's first battle. A few larger battles should be more fun.
Ze titles yez...
When in doubt,
Smite.<SilverMane> I would trust BID with my life
<SilverMane> HEIL BID!

<Scary_Troopers> I see you as an optimist, GT. : D
But what of the midgets!?

Nah... the Tau are more a shooty shooty bang bang army. So on the report mentioned here, the Tau had the odds against them.
Give them some more range and they will crack. bang kaboom, zzap...
Ehh you know what I mean...
deploying them further apart would have made the battle more intresting. i play lots of 500pt battles, usally on a 3'x3' table or sometimes a 4'x4' space which i just mark out on the floor.
the 3'x3' board seems better, since there arent gonna be to manyh mobile troops in a 500pt army and it takes quite a while to walk accros the board then end up not engaging anyone
As a tau player, I hate playing any game where the bad guys can get into assault on the first turn. But your opponent did make a couple of mistakes, besides the ones already mentioned.
Personal preference: I like giving my broadside shield drone(s) in the place of a shield generator. If you keep him farther back, the only things that are going to shoot him are the las cannons, and you might as well risk a shield drone. Its definitly worth getting them to protect a point investment.
Stealth team should have been a little farther back. If he went first, he could have easily gotten in range to fire, adn if you went first (like you did), then you would not have been able to get into melee with him on the very first turn.
Tau are extremely powerful in super-small games like 500. It may just be a conincidence, but every time I play small point games (under 1000), i tend to win. It might be because all their units have the potential to kill big guys.
But congrats on your victory. Play again. I like seeing how others play tau.
Well the army make up was significant. The SM player went for a strong shooty force with the tact squads, and he had the loaded out commander character to rush in.
In addition to what everyone else has mentioned, I'd say the tau player needed some crisis suits, wiping out the 5 rines with the FWs was lucky, that tau army really wasn't made for fighting 3+ rines. The only effective way to fight them is with AP weapons. Exchanging some of his firepower for some crisis suits with plasma would've helped him alot.
I say tau died very fast. Wasted. To small of a map, if he could get into cc that fast. Cute little tau get wasted in cc.
Back from a long adventure.
To amend my earlier post.... I suggested that the Kroot screen the Broadsides and move out of the way so the Broadside could fire.
To correct myself I'd say to leave the Kroot in place. The Kroot, screening the Broadsides, do not block the Broadside's firing. No Friendly unit blocks line of fire from another friendly unit unless the "blocking" unit is a vehicle.
Otherwise, same rules apply. Keep at maximum range, shoot like crazy and gang up shooting on whomever threatens your line.
