This was my first real game of 40K (not counting some low point skirmishes against a friend in the rec room) and I made some critical mistakes in turn 6. But we both had fun.
The DA can really unload alot of firepower and I thinned out his Kroot a little (which had infiltrated 14" from my lead element),barraged into oblivion over 1/2 his grots screening his Warboss, disabled a Kan and killed another miscilaneous orc somewhere.
The Orks plodded forward a little, sending thier Doc to attempt a repair on the Kan (which failed). The Kroot assaulted my COmmand squad and wiped out 1/2 of them but suffering 2 casusalties themselves.
My Whirlwinds continued to hit exactly on target and claim another half dozen casualties. Other shooting saw the destruction of the grots as well as some retinue and another of the Kans lost a weapon and the already damaged one was shaken and lost it's second weapon. My command squad inflicted a few more casualties to the Kroot and were in turn reduced to the Vet Sgt and Standard Bearer.
The Orks abandoned the one Kan and moved out of cover towards my lines, the Leman Russ moved up into the recently vacated cover. The Kroot finished off my command squad and consolodated into cover. the rest of his guys just ambled forward a bit, one of the rocket squads failing to hit a Land Speeder.
The Dev squad unloaded into the Kroot killing only one and the Ven Dread finished of his Kans while the rest of the army continued to whittle his troops to about 1/2 strength.
The Leman Russ dropped a big painful shell onto the Dev squad reducing it to 3 ML. His Scorcha buggies arrived and boosted 25" down the table. The Kroot assaulted the Ven Dread and one of it's IC's split off to assault a Las TAC squad.
The Dreadnaught caused some casualties and lost the twinLinked LasCannon. One of the Las TAC squads destroyed the Leman Russ so the remaining ML of the Dev squad blew a big hole in the remaining Grot screening force, killing everything but the Slaver. The Land Speeders eliminated his Hard Boys and the Bike squadron chipped away at the Warbosse's retinue. By this time all the Burnna Boys had been killed as well.
His Kroot destroyed the ML on the Ven Dread and killed 1/2 the Las TAC squad. His Scorchas blew up an Assault Cannon on a Speeder and killed everyone but the Sgt in a Las TAC squad (yeesh). Everything else continued to slog forward.
The Dreadnaught killed the second last Kroot, leaving the Shaper and managed to survive the counter attack. The Dev squad took a pot shot at the Kroot snipers who had causing slow attrition to a HBolter TAC squad, but failed to kill anything. The Las TAC squad under attack by the Master Shaper died to a man but managed to take it with them. One of the Scorchas was destoroyed, taking a bike with it and two others were stunned. All but 5 of the Warbosses retinue were gunned down by the bikes and Speeders.
The remaining Ork Scorcha caused some damage to a HBolter TAC squad, the Shaper killed the Dread and consolidated past the TAC squad towards the Whirlwinds for some easy kills. The Warboss's retinue assaulted the TAC squad previously ingnored by the Shaper but the Big Boss Himself was just out of range and didn't see any action.
The Shoppa Boys moved into assault range for the final turn.
Going intot he last turn of the game the Angels stillhad 2 Whirlwinds, 1 Speeder (minus the AC), the bikes+attack Bike, 3ML Devesators and two full 6 man TAC squads. The Orcs had 2 scorchas a Warboss and 5 or 6 retinue, a modest Choppa Squad, Kroot snipers and a Master Shaper.
The Dark Angels failed to shoot more than one Choppa Boy but managed to kill all but 2 of the Boss's retinue. The Bikes also piled into the melee and I took pity on the other player and let his Warboss engage them. Unfortunately he failed to hit and failed his saves. So the War Boss was run over by the Bikes. The TAC squad wiped out the retinue and the speeder sat forgotten on the sidelines.
The Master Shaper failed his last man standing roll and fled. The Choppa Boys annihilated the other TAC squad (with like 52 attacks, yeesh) and the game ended.
He held one table quarter and contested another. I held no quarters.
I made several mistakes in the game, starting with letting him remove models not in los of my shooters. and ending with not claiming his deployment zone with my Speeder and contesting the one quarter he held with my bikes in Turn 6. I basically gave up 1350 points. So he ended up winning by 210 points.
We had a pretty good time though and between my mistakes and his bad rolling it was pretty close.
Since you say this is your first game. I think you have too many Heavy Weapons in your tactical squads. A Tac squard will have 2 heavy weapons max and those are either a Flamer, Plasma or multi-melta.
You have 4 Las Cannons and 2 Heavy Bolters in them. That is the load out available to the Devestator squads not a Tactical squad.
It should be 5 guys with Bolters and one guy with a Flamer for example.
This is assuming the Dark Angels don't have some special rules i'm unaware of.
40K: Tyranid, Necron, Space Wolves
Fantasy: Dark Elves, Lizardmen, Orcs & Goblins, Dwarves
I took 6 Tac squads (the maximum Troop choices), each squad had a Sgt, 4 Bolter Marines and either a LasCannon or HBolter.
You took a pretty good list. Do kroot have power weapons by any chance? Because it seems unlikely that they could have wiped out your command squad like that. Also, do they have fleet or some ability that lets them move over 6" intheir movement? Because if not, they shouldn't have been able to even charge the command squad on the first turn.
For the bike squad: Bike squads should be taken as five men with an attack bike, 2 meltaguns, and a veteran sergeant with a power fist. For the command squad: I don't think that the specialists are worth the points. I will go over them when I finish the Space Marine HQ tactica.
I highly suggest reading all of Chaosbyrnn's tacticas in the Space Marine Article section, as they give great insight on Tactics for Speeders, bikes, whirlwinds, etc., which you could put into condsideration when constructing your list.
Also, was your oppponent a first time player as well? Because he wasn't supposed to choose which models die, unless they are independant characters (so the scorchers could have left the heavy weapon marine alive in that tactical squad).
Ah, well, good Battle report and first game.
DA have been losing for the past 3 BRs they've been in, I think I'll go to my gaming club and write a battle report while I'm there.
Remember to read those Tacticas!
The Kroot had a special ability to infiltrate 1d6" closer than normal, they also had Fleet and the Shaper and Master Shaper had special weapons that ignored armor saves and rolled 2d6 on Armor Penetration. They basically won his games for him.
I haven't got the models to take the 'proper' bike squad yet and I knew the command squad was inefficient but again it was partially a matter of models and filling points. I think that buying a third tornado and finishing up the melta bikes will cover those points nicely.
Thanks for the feedback, looking forward to reading your HQ tactica.
I can give you a massacre of an Ultramarine company if you would like? or a 13th Company bash up(Me Win).Originally Posted by Ezekiel1990

Back to this one, nice list. How did you not contest any table quaters was all of your stuff in your own one? Cleanse can be a *****. I prefer Recon more. Dratted assault armies. You cant shoot them if you walk towards them.
Fething Kroot with Eviscerators I can see why you went down. and they had the fleet morph... ah well 2 Vengeance and 4 Frag ML later you wouldnt have had so much of a problem with a little luck or even better use IG and take a Hellhound. Its sickening.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
Kinda made me laugh that the most succesful unit was that of the Kroot Mercs, just doesnt seem to fit in with the ethos of the Orks lol.
I think maybe you should have concentrated your WW barrages onto the Slugga Boyz and not the Grots.
And less Lascannons and max out those HB's agains those pesky Orks.
Just my thoughts,
I watched a snail crawl along the edge of a straight razor. That's my dream. That's my nightmare. Crawling, slithering, along the edge of a straight... razor... and surviving.
