Loyalist Death Guard vs Undivided Chaos BatRep
Smoke rose from the other side of the building, indicating that the lascannon fire had found their mark on his forces. +Two, One. Report.+ Tallow, his mount, roared a challenge to the Daemon Prince. "Easy Tallow, soon enough, easy" he said as he reassuredly patted his ten meter tall saurian mount.
The answer crackled over the line, +One, Two. L1 is down, no casualties.+ Static crackled over the bead as he watched his entire line move forward, except for the lumbering hulk of Land Raider One. The recruits next to the Captain dashed towards the enemy lines, eager to get into close combat. The Captain nodded to himself as Tac squad Balin engaged one of the three foul Predators lined acrossed from his forces. Rhino Cressen roared straight ahead as billowing smoke belched from the launchers and obscured the transport and it's cargo of Marines. He lurched as Tallow surged forward. Another volley of fire came from the enemy, the majority of it plinking off the armour of his marines. Here and there, he did see his men fall wounded, but no where enough to stop the forward momentum. The Daemon charged along the lines and engaged Bravo. The Daemon ripped apart one marine, but then roared in pain as Sergeant Balin wounded it severly with his blessed power fist. Foul Chaos marines, armour red with blood and encrusted with blasphemous ruins, rushed Rhino Cressen in their fury and beat impotently against the sturdy armour of the transport. The Rhino drove around the Berzerkers and ground to a halt, as the marines in Squad Cressen jumped out and opened up on three obliterators. An obliterator toppled over, it's body scorched black by melta fire, while another one had a bolter round embed itself. Sergeant Assad fired into a squad of Chaos marines, killing one with a bolt of psychic hate, while Ancient Garro strode forward and crunched two Berzerkers into pulp. The Berzerkers withdrew from the combat in good order, seeking easier prey. They fell upon Squad Cressen with a vengence, leaving none alive, and then moved towards the obliterators. Ancient Garro surged forward and took revenge for Cressen, smashing the obliterators, the Berzerkers, and the Chaos Rhino into so much scrap and pulp.
The Captain urged Talon forward, charging into the abomination that was the Daemon Prince. "Time to die," he whispered and slew the Daemon, but not before Talon took a wound in return. Turning to face the enemy line, he watched as Squad Balin fell to a torrent of heavy bolter and autocannon fire. The Chaos Marines in front of the Captain braced themselves, and let loose a cascade of rapid-firing bolter and heavy bolter fire directed at Talon. Stunned by the sudden lost of blood, Talon toppled over as the Chaos Marines cheered.
+All units, Two. One is down. Forward, forward, FORWARD!" Assad screamed the last as he charged into one of the Predators. Squad Davion, spurred on by Assad, rushed forward to get into grips with another of the tanks. A squad of recruits swung into grips with one of the Chaos marine squads, bringing one down while only losing one of their own. Assad swung his power fist in a wide arc and brought it down on the front armour of the tank, destroying it. Sergeant Davion climbed on top of the Predator in front of him and brought it to a halt with one swing of his power fist. With another swing, he ripped out one of the heavy bolters and threw it at the un-engaged Chaos Marine squad. The other squad of recruits charged the unegaged Chaos marine squad and lost three of the number before taking a Chaos Marine down. The Chaos Marines broke and were run down after the other recruit squad charged in to help their brethren. Alone, Assad shot a pulse of pure hate at the immobilized Predator and was rewarded with the tank being engulfed by the explosion of the ammo bins. The last remainding Predator backed away from Squad Davion and brought down yet another of Davion's marines. Davion, anger inflamed, sprinted forward and forced his fist deep into the Predator's workings. An explosion rocked the vehicle and washed the members of Squad Davion with hot licks of flames.
A lone figure in white stepped from the carnage surrounding the slain Daemon Prince. He surveyed the battlefield. +All units, One. Stand down.+ The Captain toggled to another channel, +Eisenstein, Martel. Send down the Techmarines and the Apothecaries. They will have plenty of work to do.+
The answer came back promptly over his ear-piece, +Martel, this is Cruiser Eisenstein. Affirmative on the directive and Commander Mollander sends his congrats on another victory.+ He looked around at the destruction and whispered to himself, "This will never be finished...."
Hope you enjoyed the story/battle report. Please comment, any recommendations/critques will be appreciated.
A good report, overall. My one issue with it, fluffwise, is that there are no Loyalist splinter groups of the Death Guard. Of course, you could be using your own homemade list and that's perfectly fine as far as I'm concerned. You might want to mention if you were using your own list in cases like this where they deviate from the standard fluff significantly. Otherwise, it was good storywise.
A tiny hint for improving your report - Space out your paragraphs and check your sentences to make sure that you're still writing clearly. The way the paragraphs are now, they are a bit difficult to read and it hurts the eyes trying to look at them for a really long time. It's not as bad because this is a short post, but if it were a longer post, you can rest assured, people would not want to read it. Some people like to add a bit of before-battle narrative that details their unit making planetfall and sets the scene, although it's not required. Some people also like to state what kinds of units their opponents were using. Overall, it's important to find a style you like best.
Finally, put quotations and speakage in separate paragraphs, again for easy reading.
Other than that, good job. I look forward to seeing the continuing saga of the Loyalist Death Guard.
Capain Garro and some other DG remained layal (possibly) after the Istvaan IV massacre.Originally Posted by NiteRabbit
Paragraphs and sentance structure weren't too brilliant. Otherwise nice (if confusing) report.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
sorry about the paragraphs and line breaks. ported it over from wordpad and then think to check to make sure all the indents went through...
and as for Garro and his loyal 14 (or 17), no one really knows what happened to them after the siege of Terra. Some say he became an apothecary, trying to cure the plagues his brethren brought forth, others say he was executed, while others say that he's out there fighting against his former brothers. And then the really cynical ones say he's a daemon prince and he couldn't fight against the insidious malady within.
but I'm kind of partial to the third one.
I'm in a league right now using a 1300 pt list, so I should have some more stories for ya'll soon... got a space wolf fight and prolly a tyranid and an Ultra fight soon too...
