Well, I usually drop pod my whole army but i decided to try something different against necrons
6 x 4 table, my Iron Blades vs Necrons. 2250pts
8 Flayed Ones
1 Tomb Spyder
3 Heavy Destroyers
(Heed the wisdom of the ancients, take the fight to them, eye to eye, have pride in your colours)
10 Termie retinue (2 Assault Cannon)
Jump pack commander (Twin Lightning claws, 2+/4+ saves, termie honours)
5 Assault marines (2 plasma pistols, powerfist)
2 x 10 man tac squads (Powerfist, 7 w/ bolt pistol/ccw, melta, lascannon)
6 Venerable Dreadnoughts, each with x armour, lascannon, missile launcher
Game starts by dreads moving up, jump packers flying into a forest, dreads temporarily gun down 5 immortals. 1 Tactical squad sets up position in a trench. Basically my army digs in.
He Swings all his destroyers and heavy D's up the right flank, with deceiver and pariah on the left. Wraiths turbo boost, hide
I move my jump packers over to counter this threat, dreadnoughts put a wound on a tomb spyder, as well as killing a few destroyers
His wraiths move out to assault my jump packers, monolith plops down but doesnt do much. He immobilises 2 dreadnoughts. Assault yields nothing.
As my Jump packers were taking hvy casualties, they call in for terminator backup, who respond via teleport homer. They land in the midst of the field and mow down the heavy destroyers. A tac squad kills the monolith. Dreadnoughts kill 2 pariahs as well as more destroyers that keep coming back up.
My Termies get assaulted by flayed ones, and they easily wipe them out after 2 turns of fighting, buying him enough time for his pariah and deceiver to get into cc. I finish off the wraiths.
My jump pack troops plasma'ld those darn destroyers, and assault warriors.
His D-lord charges into the termie close combat, as well as the tomb spyder. After 2 turns of fighting, my Hq finally dies, taking down the tomb spyder as well.
This left his warriors out of orb range, therefore i pummeled them with lascannon and missile launcher fire.
He proceeded to move up his deceiver and kill 1 immobilised dread, and his consilidation left him just out of reach of a tac squad.
With this threat, I unloaded everything into the deceiver, putting 4 wounds on him.
Deceiver assaults, and kills 3, i finish him off w/ the hidden powerfist, but the explosion kills the rest of my squad. Warriors kill the other immobilised dreadnought.
In close combat my other squad kills the lord, but it takes about 3 turns to finally get him to fail WBB.
With no orb, this left me free to massacre the rest of the warriors with lascannon and missile launcher fire.
at phase out, he had 2 destroyers and 3 immortals left.
His army destroyed, I lost 2 dreadnoughts, 10 termies, both the chaplain and the assault squad, 1 full tac squad, and lost 3 from the other squad.
well done and congrats on your victory! this is the first space marine army i have seen with 6 dreadnoughts and so much drop stuff good to see it work out well although i think it would have been better to drop everything, would have been much nastier for the crons good on ya
well, it wasnt my fluffiest battle, (i mean, troops with bolt pistols and ccw staying static,) but i thought that it would be funny to save the drop pod points and make each dreadnought venerable and uber shooty.
Great win, I have yet to see Necrons win in an LO battle report.
Toasters always lose special rule.
Your list is interesting, I presume 3 of your Dreadnought weren't Venerable but normal?
Nice crumpin, its like Scrapheap challenge against Necrons.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
You had 3 too many ven dread eh.
nope, heed the wisdom of the ancients says that the 0-1 limit is removed. It says that if you take em as elites they must be venerable, and if theyre hvy support its optional
Ooh he got you there mate. Yes i have always considered the real advtanges of that trait, seeing as drednoughts own ass for there points cost, but really with those 600 or so points, there couldve been alot more on offer.
W/L/D - 16/1/3
H00ray for big newb battles!
Hmm...indeed on the dread thing, good job.
I am starting to get a little miffed with the Necrons never winning thing as Wings of Doom pointed out. I can understand it to a point as a lot of newbs play crons because they are so forgiving and then the vets play them and suddenly everyone thinks crons suck.
However in the 2 GW's in my area and the rogue trader store I play at Crons are one of the most feared armies. Its all about who is playing them I guess. True enough it is that most of the reports I read have cron players who make glaring tactical errors(not keeping the entire army covered by Res Orbs and tomb spyders is a key one). In any case, congrats on the win.
Nevermore Chapter: 6200 pts; 97/49/11; Longest Streak: 9 Wins/4 Losses; Nearing Completion
could some explain to me how a squad with bolters could kill a 14 armor? Just curious.Originally Posted by gen.nehring

The squad had a meltagun (which would need 6's but can destroy it), and a Lascannon, which (from your Avatar) you seem like an IG player, so you should know what a Lascannon can do to tanks
