Hey, just played a 1000 point recon against my bro's(Grand Master Sefor) Daemonhunter army. He won the deployment roll and i deployed first. The board was 8' by 4' and we played width ways.

    HQ
    Grand Master Sefor
    Retinue of 5 terminators

    Elite
    Inquisitor Lord with retinue
    Vindicare assasin

    Troops
    2 * 6 man stormtrooper squads

    Fast Attack
5 man Grey knight teleport squad
7 man Grey knight teleport sqquad, 2 with incinerators

    Heavy Support
Dreadnought with lascannon, and missile launcher

    DH Turn 1
"All units, take cover" Sefor spoke into his commlink, as he watched the battle begin from aboard his imperial cruiser orbiting the planet, for he knew the deadly potential of Tau firepower, for he had experienced it many times before and he did not want his new force to find out the hard way, like his previous team did. He commanded the dreadnought to hide behind the huge boulder in front of it. Sefor would wait till later before he would join the fight, he would use the element of suprise to it's fullest.

    Tau Turn 1
"Move forward, beware of the sniper, we must take the sector before Imperial reinforces arrive". Fa'ran ordered his troops forward and watched his drones and stealth squad soar over the boulder and land in front of a stormtrooper squad and inquistor lord plus retinue "We will teach these pathetic wretches what pain is" One stealth trooper spoke to his comrades. The firewarrior teams all moved forward with hopes to gain ground and set up good firing positions. The Crisis units also moved forward, hiding behind rocks in preparation for their attack. "Hammerhead pilot, fly towards those stormtroopers, they must be destroyed to allow our forces to advance" With that, the hammerhead sped towards the squad, and took aim. "All units, fire!!!" The Tau forces within range let loose their fire on the hapless humans. 4 from a stortrooper squad fell to the submuniton railgun and 1 stormtrooper near the dreadnought fell to a crisis suit rocket, and a member off the inquisitors retinue was felled by a drone, while a broadside failed to damage the soon to be knwon 'invincible dreadnought'. "Well done, we will see how they respond to that" Fa'ran congratulated his team, and awaited the Grey knights response.

    DH Turn 2
"Grey knights, prepare to teleport" Sefor announced, and watched as his troopss stepped into the teleport pods. "Ground forces, hold tight, we're sending reinforcements". Both squads of Grey knights landed safely, with only slight deviation from 1 unit, but were both close enough to Tau forces to fire. The Dreadnought turned it's mighty weapons towards the hammerhead, now within range. The resulting fire of both lascannon and missile launcher resluted in the rail gun being blown off. The 1st unit of Grey knights fired at the stealth team, but only managed to penetrate the armour of one unlucky warrior. The 2nd team fired on a nearby firewarrior squad, and managed to take down two warriors. The vindicare, watching as the Tau army marched relentlessly towards him, decided to fall back, lest he was to be destroyed like his fellow knights would be in what was ment to come.

    Tau turn 2
"Take the knights down! Do not let them reach you!" Fa'ran directed his left flanks fire towards the newly arrived Grey knights, while ordering his left flank to fire upon the 2nd squad of knights. He himself, followed by the hammerhead soared with his jetpack towards the vindicare, whose presence could not be tolerated. All firewarriors stood their ground, getting ready to fire at these new enemies which seemed to be appearing out of nowhere. Crisis unit beta jetpacked on top of a nearby boulder to gain a view of the dreadnought and surrounding stoormtroopers, whilst cirsis unit alpha jetted forward only to turn around, bringing its weapons to bear on the teleported knights. " Destroy them, all" Fa'ran gave the order, and the Tau followed. After the combined fire of 12 firewarriors, 5 stealth suits, 6 drones and 1 crisis suit blasted the grey knight squad, once the dust settled there wasn't a trace of them except for a few plates of armour that weren't vapourised by plasma. On the right flank however, the fire of 10 firewarriors, 2 crisis suits, 2 drones and a broadside managed to eliminate 4 knights, leaving the justicar standing there, alone. The hammerhead fired it's sms at the reamaning stormtroopers and killed 1, leaving the veteran alive. A broadside once again managed not to damage the dreadnought. "Damn that thing, it just can't be destroyed!" Fa'ran vented his frustration by wounding the vindicare, then hiding beside the hammerhead behind a small rock barrier.

    DH turn 3
"Terminators, it's our turn, we will show them the true might of the Imperium. For the Emperor!" Sefor and retinue teleported onto the battlefield, only to witness the remnants of his grey knight forces, the very few remnants, lying on the floor, with the only surviving member, the justicar, running for cover to avoid the fate shared by his brethren."These mangy currs will pay dearly for this, let the might of the Emperor fall upon them! All units, attack!!!" with this, the remaining Daemonhunter forces charged towards the Tau lines, with hopes that if they were to fall, they would not fall alone, and Sefor and retinue prepared themselves to fire to fire. The stormtroopers on the right side charged towards the firewarriors which had formed a line facing them, ready to fire. The vindicare, after suffering his first wound in combat, decided that he had better reach cover and a better firing position, as the Tau forces were rapidly approaching across the battlefield. The dreadnought could not penetrate the armour of the hammerhead, which was hull down to avoid damage behind a small rock barrier, and the justicar continued his retreat towards the dreadnoughts position. The remaining stormtrooper on the left flank with a grenade launcher managed to take down a gun drone, while the Terminators fire managed to only kill 1 firewarrior, and were left awaiting the deadly Tau response which was to come.

    Tau turn 3
"Victory is near! All units, press forward, we must eliminate the remaining forces to secure this sector!" Fa'ran urged his forces forward, with himself landing on top of a rock, facing the dreadnought and approaching stormtroopers. The entire left flank surged forward towards the inquitor lord and retinue, with the right flank turning onto the terminators. The hammerhead fired it's sms again, and finally the vindicare was removed from the battlefield. Fa'ran fired at the dreadnought, but only managed to stun the mighty construct, along with the broadside which also stunned it. The forces on the left flank consisting of 4 drones, 5 stealth suits and crisis suit with drone suceeded in eliminating the retinue of the inquisitor lord and bringing him down to 1 wound. "The terminators must be stopped, centre and right forces, focus your fire on them, we cannot afoard to let them survive" The centre and right forces responded, by taking down 1 of the mighty warriors, while the armour of the rest managed to keep them alive, along with 2 terminators, whose refractor fields prevented them from being turned into molten slag from rapid plasma fire. Fa'ron then spotted the remaining stormtrooper on his left and charged towards him.

    Final Turn
    DH turn 4
"Fight on my warriors, if we go down, we will eliminate 3 times our number of their forces!" Safor yelled, before, followed by his retinue of terminators, charged towards the nearest firewarrior squad, who viewed them with utmost fear in their eyes, and knew they were lost. The Inquistor, sensing his end was near, charged headlong towards the stealth suits, but he found he was further away than he thought, and realised that his time had come. The remaining stormtrooper charged towards Fa'ron, failing to wound the mighty commander with his grenade launcher, then failed to hit him in combat. Fa'ron looked pitifully down at the human at his feet, "He thinks he can stop me, poor creature" he thought to himself, then without thinking twice, slammed his mighty fists down onto the trooper, reducing him a puddle of blood and gore, with no identifyable features remaining. Sefor fired at the nearby firewarrior squad before charging, reducing the squad to 2 men. The charge towards the other man strong team was brutal, and short with all but 2 lukcy firewarriors who were out of reach of the towering terminators. Logic got the better of them, and they fell back, only to be mercillesly hacked down by the advancing tide of death.

    Final Turn
    Tau turn 4
Fa'ran didn't have to say anything, his troops knew what to do. Fa'ran just stood his ground, he was where he had to be, while the left flanking forces all moved forward, finnaly taking down the resiliant inquisitor lord which had plagued them since the battle began. The remaining firewarriors in the centre once again focuses their fire on the terminators, but could not penetrate their ancient armour, and they stood strong. Not strong enough however, that several plasma rifle shots got through a refractor field and felled another warrior. This was followed by a mighty blast, and a terminator was moleculerised by a rail gun shot from a nearby broadside. The firewarrior squad on the right fired into the approaching stormtrooper squad, putting a well placed shot to the head in one. The left broadside once again only managed to stun the seemingly invincible dreadnought.

Grand Master Sefor surveyed the battlefield, the corpses of his trusted and mighty grey knights littered the field, and he knew he was defeated. "Argh, damn Tau, I, we, surrender"

After the 4th turn, it was obvious that i had won, with 4 units above half strength + a damaged vehicle in his deployment zone, and with my 2 crisis suits dancing around his terminators, picking them off slowly. Don't know how many vp's i got, but i got more than him with one unit in the deployment zone.

Total Tau casualties-10 firewarriors, 1 drone, 1 stealth trooper.

Total Daemonhunters casualties-9 stormtroopers, 12 grey knights, 3 terminators, inquisitor lord plus retinue, vindicare assasin.

Phew, that took agez to write, my first proper batrep , let me know what u guys think

Sounds like your Terminators made a sweeping advance and that your Justicar was falling back due to last man standing.
Neither of those things are possible. Termies can't make sweeping advances or cut down moves and all Grey Knights are fearless and never flee.
Liked the story though good job!

well I'm not sure their is no way that grey knights would ever surrender they would probably rather shoot themselves in the head then surrender. That or cynide. Tau though are just that powerful easily. Tau though can be taken down easily actually. Either a close combat rushing army that someone knew how to build and built it well or a few lascannon or earthshakers. Once the broadsides are gone a simple Land Raider or Grav Tank can easily sweep up the firewarriors and stealth teams along with a few squadrens of support. You just hit the broadsides from 48 inches with strong AP 2 weapons and they will fall quickly and then you either use a tank that most guns can't penetrate and watch for Crisis battlesuits and keep them away. Or you can just close combat them and it will be massacre getting to them but a massacre of Tau when you get there.

The reason that Tau are so good is because they have potential to become good with little work. Other armies it takes extreme thought to get to the point of greatness.

as a tau player I always thought SMs were too good. Tau are good cos u can play em on all levels - a veteran can play em great and complicatedf but a newbie can pick em up and shoot 7 types of sh*t out of the enemy.

Tell your bro to ditch the stormies and add in more GKs or termies... also ditch the assasin and go with death cultists... It is pointless to stand and shoot at the Tau, its' better to just take some losses, and charge headlong into their ranks... Which 90% of the time ends up with the Tau unit being obliterated by NFWs
