Lord w/R.Orb, Phylactery 155pts
2x10 Warriors 360pts
3x5 Destroyers 750pts
1 Monolith 235pts
Tau force: (I think)
1 Shas'O and squad
40 Fire Warriors
9 Crisis Suits
Deployed my Lord behind the Lith, flanked by Warrior squads. The Destroyers were all positioned down a flank.
Turn 1: I left the Lith and Warriors stationary. The Destroyers moved down a flank maintaining range and wiped out 3 Fire Warrior squads. Hammerheads fired at the
Destroyers killing 2. Crisis Suits killed 4 Warriors. The remaining Tau army was out of range and moved forward.
Turn 2: I used the Lith to re-roll my WBB rolls so 2 Destroyers got up. 2 Warriors also got up. I killed the remaining Fire Warrior squad and blew up a Hammerhead with the Lith and Warriors moving forward. Crisis Suits and Hammerhead butchered my Warriors next wiping out the entire squad of 8 Warriors.
Turn 3: I used the WBB re-roll on the wiped out squad since the other Warrior squad was conveniently nearby. Only 4 got up despite having 2 WBB rolls. The Destroyers blew up the remaining Hammerhead and wiped out a Crisis squad. The opponent gave up at that point saying my force was cheesy.
Summary: The Lith 'saved' 2 Destroyers and 2 Warriors but otherwise had little impact on the game. The Destroyers really payed off tho by wiping out squads every turn.
15 destroyers OMG!!
TALK ABOUT CHEESE!!.
I have nothing more to say about this.
such people like this degrade our level of play.
and it's a shame to us necron players.
15 destroyers does seem like an overkill... But I'm afraid if the rules alow it, there is ('legally' nothing wrong with using it? (though 'morally' speaking it might indeed be said you used a rather cheest force)
Indeed 15 destroyers are unfair, as your fast attack costs more points than the rest of your army.
However, your opponent does not look much better with 12 crisis suits.
But lets talk about this... how do you counter 15 destroyers as tau? Is there something he could have done?
This is why necrons get the label of cheese. Personally, I would rather put together an army which is balanced, but more likely to lose, than a cheese army which almost 'cheats to win', as I don't see how you will get satisfaction out of your visctory with cheese and doesn't follow the spirit of warhammer. (although your opponent wasn't a lot more fair with 12 crisis suits and 2 hammerheds).
Oh well, whatever floats your boat...
Destroyers are not that hard to counter, a good plasma cannon shot will take out almost half the squad. Sustained lasgun or bolter fire can almost kill off a whole squad in less than a turn. They have toughness five yes, but they only have 1 wound and a 3+ armor save. I played a necron player who tryed to bring 15 destroyers and 9 heavy destroyers, i had a laugh in my head because he only brought 2 squads of warriors and a ctan. He was *****ed when i gunned down a squad of 5 destroyers with 15 bolt pistols and 1 plasma pistol. Necrons can be as cheesy as they want, doesnt change the fact that if you kill the warriors and a couple of destroyers, you win. You can throw on all the cheese you want but when you neglect to remeber your phase out rule you deserve to lose. Not taht your tau opponent was much smarter he should have just outranged your destroyers with his railguns, taken a squad of broadsides and just let loose for a couple of turns.
You know what they say, if you dont like the weather in houston...go back to where you came from
To be "origanal". 15 Destroyers! Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese. of course, thats why there are lascannons and plasmas. Anything with strength 7+ and 3 or 2 ap, say bye bye destroyers! Or get into cc (if your NOT TAU) and use power weapons and hihg strenthers.......
Back from a long adventure.
i'm a tau player and i believe if your enemy was dum enough to fight (gasp) 15 destroyers then he deserved to be destroyed.
It was not cheesy. good use in destroyes but overkill to the tau. his suits should have been near the front to get the maximum fire power.
But good job on winning.
Well basically I like Destroyers alot.
They are rather fragile tho as most ppl have mentioned and they DO cost 50pts a piece. They rely very heavily on their long-range firepower.
Generally I find that fielding other units in conjunction with Destroyers means that the opponent concentrates fire on the Destroyers while the rest of the army which completely lacks heavy, ranged firepower is forced to footslog.
No transports and no long-range is really asking to be beat down IMO. There's virtually no way to claim table quarters without a few fast-moving squads.
It's not THAT cheesy. It's just overkill on an army which
a) Is armoured with 4+ saves.
Relies on shooting so is unable to take advantage of Crons lower I values.
c) Has troops that have 30'' range when Destroyers have 36''.
Tau are just severely weak against Destroyers. Armies like SM or Chaos would probably have less of a problem. Put it this way....if I CAN'T outshoot the Tau and Necrons generally lack the mobility to get into CC then they would be shafted.
Still for the sake of perceived fair play I suppose I could bulk up on Warriors
1 Lord w/R.Orb, VoD
3x3 Destroyers 450pts
Heavy Support 290pts
1 Tomb Spyder
Don't change your tactics based on babies. If it's allowed, it's in. It's war! Now your opponents will plan (fear) heavily on a huge destroyer force, and you can switch it up. You've already won the next battle.
