    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Blood Angels Commander surveyed the area. The locals had reported strange disappearances to the local Imperials, and the threat had seemed sufficient to send a small detachment of the Emperor's Elite to this place. As of yet, however, no foe had presented itself to them.

The Hive Mind that directed Hive Fleet Mythos became aware of Prey-that-Fights when the radio communications of the Blood Angels prickled its awareness. The will of the Hive swung into immediate and decisive action. A specialized bio-construct launced a spore mine high into the atmosphere, where the extreme change in pressure caused it to burst. Hundreds of millions of tiny wriggling worms flew forth, their only purpose to expend their life energy by "screaming" on the channels that Prey-that-Fights use for their communications. The rest of the Hive swung into action. Prey-that-Fights must be consumed before the screamers died out enough to allow the Prey to send for reinforcements.

...Rolling on the Standard Missions chart gave the result that shifted us to the Battles Missions table, and we ended up playing a Meat Grinder Missions, Tyranids on the Attack --- Tyranids get first move...

    Turn 1, Tyranid

All forces move forward, attempting to get into position to do the most damage. The Hormagaunts fleet of Claw for 1 inch, which is all they ever manage to FoC for during the entire game. An amazing bit of shooting by the Carnifex kills 5 Space Marine Scouts. The Ithaqua Tyrant successfully charges a warp blast, but manages to miss the Baal Predator. With nobody in Assault range, Turn 1 for the Tyranids ends.

    Turn 1, Blood Angels

The Baal Predator, a Tactical Squad and its Rhino all succumb to the Black Rage and move. The other Rhino hurries off with its tactical squad to attempt to avoid being eaten. Under TVR(CA '04), the Baal still is allowed to fire off its entire arsenal, and so it does, utterly failing to penetrate the thickened carapace of the Ithaqua Tyrant. Other shooting for the BAs is similarly ineffective, and Turn 1 ends.

    Turn 2, Tyranids

Raveners continue their advance up the left flank, attempting to chase down the Rhino moving around over that way. The Tyrant moves up near the side of the Baal Predator. Genestealers do well on their difficult terrain test and move over a steep hill to try and get into position to actually assault something. Hormagaunts advance around a forest towards other BA units. Carnifex moves up more, fires off Barbed Strangler, but misses his target. Venom Cannon shots fail to glance the moving Rhino, The Tyrant charges up his warp blast, and this time manages to reduce the Baal Predator to a pile of smoking rubble. Bits of burning wreckage land just short of his feet. Hormagaunts again manage to FoC an amazing 1". Still no assaults, so turn over

    Turn 2, Blood Angels

The Rhino still carrying a Tac squad attempts to Tank Shock the Ravener Brood, but they pass their LD test, and the Rhino moves through Harmlessly. The FC manages to wound the Carnifex once with his melta weapon, and the remaing sarge from the decimated scout squad charges the Carnifex, along with the other unharmed Assault squad. During the ensuing Assault, the Carnifex takes a wound from the fellow with the Power weapon, but manages to kill one of the scouts in return, causing a drawn combat.

    Turn 3, Tyranids

Hormagaunts move over towards the combat involving the Carnifex. All other Broods advance on their respective targets. Shooting largely uneventful. Assaults involve Raveners trying futilely to get through the armor of the Rhino(moved 12", so needed 6 to hit, 6 to glance/pen) Hormagaunts manage to engage the Force Commander, and fail to wound him. He scores a wound in return and I manage to roll box cars on their Ld check (Out of synapse). IB chart roll yields a "Fall Back" result, so they turn tail. The Carnifex manages to break the scouts in combat, but is unable to chase them down.

    Turn 4, Blood Angels

Rhino on the Tyranid Left Flank again unsuccessfully Tank Shocks the Raveners. Tac Squad on Right Flank pours enough fire into the Carnifex to put him down. No Assaults

    Turn 5, Tyranids

The hormagaunts regroup, and attempt to make their way closer to the Scouts in order to fight them. During the shooting phase, the Hive Tyrant smokes the Force Commander with a super Warp Blast. Horms move up on the scouts and kill a few, forcing another break from combat, and roll badly enough on the pursuit roll that they are unable to keep the scouts engaged. Raveners open up the Rhino on the left flank like a can of exploding spam, and lose one of their number in the ensuing explosion. The squad inside was auto-killed as the Raveners still managed to block all access points and cut the marines into so many gibbets of meat as they attempted to escape. Genestealers again lament their damnable slowness.

    Turn 5, Blood Angels

Remaining Tac Squad pulls back along with their Rhino, takes up a firing position. The Sarge fails an All on Your Own Test, and begins hoofing it away. The other scout and sarge assault the Hormagaunts and are killed for their troubles.

    Turn 6, Tyranids

Tyrant wings his way over the hill between him and the remaining meat. Hormagaunts amazingly fail an IB check, despite their Hive Node. Roll "Lurk", so they head back towards a forest. All others move in towards the food. Tyrant manages to miss with his Warp Blast, and Assaults the remaining marines. Kills a few, but marines remain steadfast.

    Turn 6, Blood Angels

Because the singular Scout Sarge is within 6" of a Tyanid, he continues to fall back. Assault is singularly uneventul, with both the Tyrant and his Marine opponents failing to cause any wounds.

    Turn 7, Tyranids

Genestealers finally make it into combat. Hormagaunts rally, but too late to contribute to the cause. Genestealers finish off the marines fighting against the Tyrant, and the Tyrant carves open the squad's Rhino. Seeing the demise of the full marines, the Scout Sarge flees off the table and into the waiting maw of some hungry bio-construct.

    Victory: Tyranids

Firstly well done on the win.

Though early on it seemed that the BA rolled really badly I mean all miss with the BAAL the thing has 3 weapons!

Also he rolled quite badly for the rest too but not later on, later on he managed to get some luck but it was too late and you did well for defeating him.

A good battle and while the points of the armies were the same their obvious effectiveness is significantly different. The Blood Angels player seriously needs to rethink his list. A furioso Dreadnaught and Flamers would have helped him out a lot. Also he should have taken terminators to bolster his Defenses.

Regardless though you definitely showed him the might of the Tyranids...
