OK Battle this weekend I refereed for my Step son (Necrons) VS his mate (Night Lords)
Most of this is from memory so may be sketchy:
Lord, res orb, Phylactery, staff of light, Inv save?)
Lord, res orb, phylactery, destroyer body, war scythe
4 flayed ones
4 scarab bases
2 heavy destroyers
Lord: dark blade, bolt pistol, frags, assorted demonics including strength, toughness, attacks and aura, MOCU
Squad of 8 CSM, MOCU, bp, ccw, plasma gun, melta gun, aspiring champion upgrade, power weapon, plasma pistol, rhino, pintel combi, havoc launcher, smoke launcher
Squad of 10 CSM, MOCU, bp, ccw, 2x plasma gun, aspiring champion upgrade, power weapon, plasma pistol, rhino, pintel combi flamer, smoke launcher
Squad of 12 CSM, MOCU, bp, ccw, 2x plasma guns, aspiring champion upgrade, power weapon, plasma pistol, 6 bikers (no upgrades)
Dread, plasma cannon
Havoc squad (8CSM) MOCU, AC, power weapon and bolt pistol, 4 heavy bolters
Both commanders spread right across the battlefield facign each other, with the Necrons in the north and the CSM in the south, the flayed ones and monolith were held in reserve by the Necrons.
From the west we have:
Squad of 12 warriors and the scarabs facing off against the 12 strong CSM squad,
2 heavy destroyers and the wraiths joined by the lord with a destroyer body facing the Havocs, the rhino with 10 CSMs, the dread and the bikes
Squad of 11 warriors and the foot lord facing off against the smaller rhino squad which was joined by the Chaos lord
Turn 1 went to Chaos.
His move was all over the shop, but basically everything went forwards, event the havocs, who moved to adopt a fire position in front of his deployment zome in cover, the bikes turbo boosted, most stuff shot and missed, the only real effect was a couple of warriors from the squad with lord took a nap thanks to the havoc launcher on the rhino
Turn 1 Necron:
Brace yourself, both warrior squads and the scarabs moved forwards, the wraiths and lord with destroyer body zoomed up to be in a position to charge the bikes, the heavy Ds just shuffle dto get better cover, they opened up, first shot – destroys the dread (heavy D) everything else shoots but by the time the smoke clears a single CSM from the bigger squad is downed. Rather nonplussed, Ross charges his wraith and lord into the bikes, in a flurry of bad dice, he kills 2 bikes taking no damage
Turn 2 Chaos.
Working west to east, the large foot squad moves towards the scarabs, the Havocs prep their heavy bolters, the larger squad in a rhino edges forwards past the fight with the bikes and the wraiths and decamps, the second rhino edges up a slope and again its occupants decamp. Shooting, the Havocs open up on the scarabs, killing a base, the remainder are peppered with rapid fire bolter shots from the large foot CSM squad, wiping them out. In the middle fo the battlefield the larger foot squad and their rhino kill a heavy destroyer, unfortunately the second heavy D is well within 6 inches so he may well be back, The squad on the right with the lord open up on the warrior squad in front of them, unfortunately between them and the chaos lord they only manage to down 4 warriors. Combat, the only fight in town results in the wraiths and lord wiping out the remaining bikes, but not before one of the wraiths is dropped.
Turn 2 Necron:
WBB brings back half the warriors, and the Heavy D, For reserves the Flayes ones arrive , near to the warrior squad with the lord in the east. Movement: from the west, the large warrior squad positions its self to charge the equally large CSM squad, the heavy Ds hunker down to some shooting, the wraiths and lord move over to charge the havoc squad and the lord and his foot squad move to charge the Chaos lord and his squad. Shooting – the heavy Ds stun the nearest rhino. Assault: everyone piles in, in the west there is a punching match loosing about 3 warriors to 2 CSMS between the 2 largest squad, in the center, the lord and wraiths try an munch their way through a rather tough Havoc squad, killing 2or three but losing a wraith, in the east, the lord and the Chaos lord square up, the Lord puts a single wound on the Chaos lord for none in return, several necrons fall, so a single CSM
Turn 3 Chaos:
Movement: the only squad that can move are standing in rapid fire range of the Heavy Ds and chose not to move, the only mobile rhino moves up to shoot the flayed ones. Shooting, the recently recovered heavy D is dropped again, the flayed ones survive the havoc launcher and 2 combi bolters on the rhino. Assault: from the west: the 2 large squads continue to slug it out, both squads are dropped to about 8 members, the CSMs win the combat, and the necrons fail their moral – running off, the CSMs fail to masacre them. In the center, the waith and lord continue to work their way through the havocs, although the last wraith drops, the CSMs stick with it. In the east, the 2 lords stick with their slugging match, this time the Chaos lord woulds the Necron Lord, the 2 squad prattle around, I think a couple of necrons went down, but they stuck with it.
Turn 3 Necrons:
WBB: both wraiths come back, the necrons from the squad with the lord mostly come back but not the Heavy D. Reserves – boing, the monolith arrives, deep striking slightly to the east of the centre of the battlefield , Movement: aside from the fleeing squad nada. Shooting, the Heavy D manages to imobalise the nearest rhino, the monolith fails to hurt either rhino, but does wipe out half the 10 man squad shooting up the heavy Ds. Assault the flayed ones pile into the Chaos lord and his squad. The lords put a wound on each other, a couple of the flayed ones go down. The lord and wraiths continue to kill havocs (these guys were exceptionally luck, by now down to 3 strong, once again they manage to pull down a wraith.
Turn 4 Chaos: Movement: the big squad in the west moved back towards the embattled havoc squad, for some reason the squad in the middle decided they could outshoot both the heavy destroyer and the monolith, the last mobile rhino did a bit of a runaround for no discernable reason. Shooting, the self declared shooting chapions failed to hit the heavy destroyer. Assault – the fight between the wraith, lord and havocs continued apace, the last wraith dropping and the havoc squad being reduced to the aspiring champion who stood his ground. On the hill in the east, the two lords traded blows with stunning degree of inability, the CSMs managed to take down 2 pariahs. Both the pariahs and the warriors fled, leaving the Chaos lord and his squad standing on their own, they did catch the warrior squad and destroyed it as 2 flayed ones and the lord ran for cover.
Turn 4 Necrons: movement : nada. WBB: all failed or were inelligable Shooting: The monololith could not resist the Chaos lord and his squad so out came the gause flux arc template, seconds later only the lord and the Aspiring champion are still standing. Shooting from the defensive weaponry on the monolith, the heavy destroyer and the now regrouped necron squad in the west destroyed the shooting CSM squad in the center of the battle field, reduced the squad in the west to the Aspiring champion, destroyed the immobilised rhino and stunned the other rhino. Assault- the lord with a destroyer body finally finished off the havoc squad by downing the Aspiring Champ.
From this point on the battle was just a case of mopping up, it actually lasted to the 6th turn as the necrons struggle dto take down the last rhino, the only other models on the field for chaos was an aspiring champion sitting under the guns of the monolith, 8 warriors and a heavy destroyer plus within charge range from an untouched lord with a destroyer body and a warscyth, and on the hill, a Choas lord on one wound and an Aspiring champion, both the flayed ones and the necron lord on foot regrouped and charged back in, but not before defensive weaponry on the monololith had taken care of the AC, the Flayed ones pulled down the Chaos lord in the turn they charged
Battle over – victory to the sons of C3PO
The Chaos player didn’t know his ( ) from his elbow! He should have chased the warriors off the board, would have phased out the army
Necrons should focus more on shooting Vs assault troops like CSMs, Deep striking monoliths are very rude, need to replace the dice (failed 3 Ld10 moral checks)
Everything you have been told is a lie!
That was fun. Brings back memories from when I was a wee lad.
Its clear that both players are inexperienced (tons of upgrades on rhinos and none on bikers etc.), but it seems they had a very enjoyable game with plenty of ups and downs and memorable moments. Just as it should be.
Oh, and btw... that chaos player could use a hand in his army composition and tactics. Show him this forum and we will give him a hand. We'll make a worthy champion out of him yet.
If the radiance of a thousand suns
Were to burst at once into the sky,
That would be like the splendor of the Mighty One...
I am become Death,
The shatterer of Worlds.
Heavy Necron list, Nice!
Overall, good report.
Descriptions were good, everything was thoroughly explained and easily understood.
Im looking forward to reading more of your BR, and hey next time why don't you right a FT one!
LMAO, yeah teh chaos player was clearly out of his depth, although he had loads of minis he ended up borrowing half of my night lords (all bar one bike, 10 CSM and a rhino) and does fall into the trap of toys for the boys,Originally Posted by Arizzar
Ross (my stepson - the necron player) hasnt usd his necrons in a good 6 months, having more rusn out with his (my ex) space wolves, but his crons are all his own paint work (appart from the lith which I helped him with) and the list is entirely his own devising, he packed it out a little as it is probably about 500-250 points above what he normally plays (he long ago gave up on scarabs cos he couldnt get them to do much), but asside from the list padding and bad dice, his only real fault was his deployment which was not thought out.
Thanks for the comments guys
