1000 points ish*
This was a borrowed imperial guard army, although I call it my own. This was done at GW. The board was 4x6 and we decided on 5 pieces of terrain. In the middle there were 6 big creators and small obstacles. In the south there was a forest, well a shelled forest. To the east (where the Tau deployed) was a hill and swamp. To the north were 2 giant wrecked buildings. To the west (me) was an imperial guard bunker.
The dices were rolled and deep strike was allowed. We decided on our own mission, 7 turns and who ever had the most points left in there army after the meat grinder won!
Then as we rolled to go first my heart dropped, Tau was going second.
Deployment: I plced my Mortar’s to the side of the bunker and my autocannons in the center of the bunker with a clear view of the battlefield. My conscripts were laid down in front of the bunker in 2 lines of 30 men, ( MEAT SHIELD!!!) 1st platoon to the north and 2nd platoon took the south as that’s where the hammer heads were at. My HQ was standing behind the conscripts with 1st squad of1st platoon and 1st squad of 2nd platoon. My Storm Troopers were to come from the skies.
The Tau set out with there HQ in the center on top of the hill. With the fire worriers in front. The kroot took the north and the stealth’s took the south.
The game was on.
IG: I started off by moving everything one step forward leaving nothing but support squads behind. The men made it to cover. The Autocannons released a hail of rounds at the Tau HQ killing him, but this had little effect on the Tau. The Mortars fired and was smack bang on target, they hit the kroot and they fell straight to the ground. 3 kroot perished and they were pinned.
T: the hammerheads moved into the center of the east side to guard the fire worriers. The kroot were stuck on the ground. The stealth suits popped up in the north sector and that was then end of there mysterious ways.
*I love mortars, no guard army should be with out them. At this stage I was confident*
IG: the conscripts moved forward acting as a meat shield for the squads and HQ behind it. 2nd platoon command and 2nd squad reached deep forest. 1st platoon command and 2nd squad opened fire of the stealth suits and decimated them, the grenade launcher killed 2 of them wile the lasguns killed 4. 1 squad down 2 to go. The autocannons shot the side of the second hammerhead to bits destroying it completely. The mortars rained down on the kroot taking a further 5 casualties. The storm troopers popped up on the north end of the board where I wanted them, I lost 2 of them to hitting the side of a building. They shot the stealth suit squad to bits taking a whole 6 casualties.
T: Payback he said, the fire worriers got ready, aimed and fired on my conscripts killing 10 of them. The hammer head killed a further 10. the kroot got up. The stealth suits shot the storm troopers to bits killing all 8 of them.
*ok, don’t panic, I have big guns, his are bigger, but that’s ok! WHAT!!!. I lost 38 men in 1 turn!
IG: the conscripts moved forward some more with the squads and HQ trailing. The conscripts were doing there job, being a meat shield. The 1st Platoon command squad up north moved in for an assault trailed by the 2nd squad. 2nd platoon down south moved in for an inevitable assault on kroot and took the chance wile it was there for the taking.
Time fore a bit of light! The conscripts turned there flashlights on, all 40 of them, only 1 managed to hit and wound and thankfully that fire worrier died. The mortars took aim on the squad and missed and hit the tank, nothing happened. The autocannons had moved down south to get a clear shot at the hammerhead. The 2nd platoon command squad did everything and killed 2 of them wile the 2nd squad killed 1 of them. The kroot decimated the platoon down south killing 6 men. No kroot fell to the guardsmen ultimate sacrifice.
T: the fire worriers shot the conscripts to bits again killing 8 of them and the hammer head killed 15 of them, 43 down 27 to go. The kroot fought of the guardsmen down south and the retreated only to be wiped out by the kroot, 2nd platoon was gone, all gone! Well except for 1st squad. The assault up north ended in a huge slaughter with the rest of the suits dieing inflicting no casualties.
*things are looking good, my infantry tactics are working, if I can keep it going for now I might be able to win.*
IG: the conscripts stayed and shot the fire worriers to pieces this time. The command squad and 1st squads turned south to get out of the way of the hammerhead. The mortars hit the kroot but not pinning them but killing 5. 13 down 7 to go. The autocannon immobilized the skimmer. 1st platoon was hiding in the rubble up north.
T: as all my conscripts bulked up to shoot at the fire worriers it was there doom, the hammer head killed 12 of them and they decided that some of them have to survive and so they ran like they never ran before. The kroot opened fire on the autocannons killing 2 loaders.
* well all he has left is 7 kroot and a hammerhead, looks like the imperial guard are going to win!*
IG: the autocannons opened fire on the kroot killing 1 of them wile the mortar tried to take a few more but missed.
T: the hammerhead opened fire on the 1st squad of 2nd platoon and decimated them. All 10 were killed.
*wtf just happened?*
IG: the mortars hid spot on and killed the rest of the kroot, the autocannons ripped the hammer head apart only to smash its rail gun.
T: the hammerhead shot at the command squad but missed.
IG: …. KABLAMO! The autocannons destroyed the hammerhead.
Ok, this is a good way to try and beat Tau. Numbers. They put up one heck of a fight. All I had left was 40 men, out of my original 137! 97 men perished in that battle to stop the Tau. Its amazing what conscripts can do. I was amazed at how much they withstood the Tau onslaught of firepower! As a guard player I have hardly been able to beat Tau. But now I know. I was a fun game, I think it was one of my best games.
when I saw 2 hammer heads in his list, I thought you were dead for sure. Honestly, I think you won because your opponent didn't have a good idea of what targets were high priority, like your heavy weapon squads. But jolly good show, glad to see a victory for the guard.

i wasent going to post it, but i thought why not i am bored. it was only his 4th game with tau and it was his first loss. he said he has plyed aginst nids, guard and space marines with that list and he thought he could beat my list... bu his rolling was realy bad, he scored really poor rolls for the stealth suits. it was a kind of wierd game. but as if conscripts are no the coolest unit in the game. certainly up there with grots. meat shield mania!
What I don't get is how you killed his HQ in like the first round. It's an IC, which means you can only fire on it if it is the closest available model, and in round 1 he shouldn't be by any means...
Sig by:Knape, The Celestial, and Marlinspike, thanks guys!

it sucks, i wish i knew that earlyer, i thought eh game was going a bit oddly. i expected to end up with about 10 men!
You can have only 50 in a unit .Plus when they check morale it is at ld 5Conscripts
Total: 240Hammerheads are hard to take down. If they move more than 6 then you can only glance it. Plus they can make you reroll the 5 on glancing table due to decoys. I hate hammerheads(lol)The autocannons shot the side of the second hammerhead to bits destroying it completelyWe should always outnumber most armies. Especially tau with IGOk, this is a good way to try and beat Tau. Numbers
I think the tau player did not have enough crisis suits only 1 . Anyway good report. It is always good to see IG win.

like i said lucky rolling. i did take a re roll and scored another glancing hit then i rolled a 6 completly destroying it.
what i mean by numbers is literally numbers not out number them by 1.5 to 1 or 2 to one but 3 - 5 to one... Tau dose not have firepowere enough for that. a tanks are useless. i had the opertunity to use a demol and a russ but i chose not to.
but the whole game was flawed because of the mistake at the start.
I was surprised at how well you did, seeing as you only had 6 heavy weapons, none of which were the usual suspects (i.e. lascannon or missile launcher). I also was surprised to see no HW in line squads and a lack of plasma, both of which many a guard player on here will tell you are key to guard firepower. But you did fairly well so congrats!
ppl are always saying that the new tau r invincible, well i hate it since im an eldar/sm player, well done then
