I just played my fist game ever, and here's a somewhat accurate account of it.
Veil of Darkness
8 Flayed Ones
1 Heavy Destroyer
3 Crisis Suits
2 Missle Pods
3 Burst Cannon
1 Plasma Gun
3 Stealth Suits
12 fire warriors
12 fire warriors
2 Kroot hounds
5 Gun Drones
*Im not exactly sure what my opponent had, but this is the general layout
We were playing on a cityscape board with normal rules. There was an alley/street down the middle and buildings and ruins on either side of the street. Lots of cover
I was set up on one side with the wraiths and dlord on the left and the destroyers on the right the warriors were in the middle and the heavy destroyer was in between them. Foot lord and immortal in the back. FO's infiltated.
His stuff was all on the other side. Vehicles in the middle kroot on his right flank. ethereal in back. Fire warriors on a building by ethereal. other FW's by right back on other building BS's by building in back, crisis' in backish right. Stealth suits by vehicles. Gun rones in front of ethereal.
the FOs were out of sight and exactly 12" from the FW by the ethereal. Yes, that is where this is going...
I got first turn, and moved FOs toward FWs, and everything else up. The Foot Lord and Immortals veiled and landed about 17" from their front line; in range of everything. Whoops. Immortals shot and killed about 4ish FWs, and Heavy destroyer missed hammerhead. Assault: FOs charge FWs and kill 5ish, taking no casualties in return. FW's retreat and are cut down by their sweeping advance. FOs consolidate toward ethereal
Tau turn 1
Everything shoots at immortals. Everything. They are wiped out, but the lord is left standing. Nothing else happens.
All move up, FOs make beeline for ethereal. Destroyers kill some more FW; Heavy Destroyer shakes crew of Hammerhead. FOs assault and massacre the ethereal HECK YES!!!
The remaining FW, the BSs, the 3 Crisis's all run for their lives!!! YEEEAAAH!
Kroot run as far away as they can from the FOs, and closer to the wraiths and dlord. All shoot at Wraith and Dlord, but miss or are saved except for wraith hit by railgun. no assault
Wraith returns. All move up, FOs toward Crisis. Heavy Destroyer blows up hammerhead and kills a stealth suit with explosion. Destroyers take out more kroot. Foot lord gets in range and shoots and kills one more stealth suit. the last fails his all on your own and hauls tush outta there. Wraiths smash into kroot and massacre the rest of them. Dlord Explodes Devilfish with scythe and takes a wound from explosion. FOs put 2 wounds into crisis and lose one. Foot lord rushes drones and kills 2
FO gets back up
all is in cc. Assault. Crisis suit dies, and takes no FOs with him. 2 last drones down
Well that went great. My opponent was rather bad, and I made a big mistake in veiling the immortals 1st turn, ill wait on them in the future...
Good start. Welcome to the world of Necron fun. Immortals are a juicy target for Tau to shoot you will find.
its great to have a dlod with warscythe and r orb -- personal favorite
and dont use h destroyers, i find that they always get wiped out
I put the h destroyer in to take care of tanks, but Ill try without it next time.
Heavy Destroyers are used for character hunting, and high T heavy support or hq slot choices. Like TMC's for instance. In any other situation they are useless.
"War does not determine who is right - only who is left" Bertrand Russell
We bring only death, and leave only carrion. It is a message even a Human can understand.
I have a friend who plays Space Wolves though, and he's got quite a bit of tanks. I also dont want to have to rely on gaussing my opponents' 12+ armor with everything I have.
Since HDs move like jetbikes (can move 6" in the assault phase), I'd think it'd be easy to keep them safe around cover.
Chief Inspector Dreyfus: Are you wounded?
Clouseau: No. Fortunately I was saved by the darkness.
Chief Inspector Dreyfus: So what we need is more light.
Thats a bit of a mistake there, you need to infiltrate MORE THAN 12'' from enemies out of sight.... aka 12.00000001'', making it impossible to get a first turn assault in such situations.Originally Posted by crazedcucco
Anyway, that aside, nice first game.
Btw, Bellum_Gerreo, the 6'' assualt move applies only to elder jetbikes, not jetbikes in general
I've just upped my army to 2000, only changes are a phase shifter to the DLord, 4 more warriors in each squad, another Heavy Destroyer, a GoF for the foot Lord, and a Monolith.
