hey guys, i was playing some 40k with a friend of mine whos played SM 3 or 4 times before so tonight we decided to play again. I dont really recall what his army was but ill try to do what i can
this is a basic cleanse mission
veil of darkness
9 scarab swarms (disruption fields)
3 tactical sqauds
1 tactical squad (with rockets)
and he had a shist load of upgrades for squads
so heres the setup
in the center we have a small forest, 6 inches thick all around
to the SE of forest theres a ruin building
to the NE of the forest theres a ruin building
12 " to the Nw theres a ruin building
heres my deployment
inside the SE ruins sits my 11 warriors
directly to the right of my warriors in plain view is my Night Bringer
on the far left table top sits my destroyer lord and destroyers
Wriath is placed directly opposite the space marine squad #2
everything else is in reserve
in front of the NE ruins sits 1 tactical squad#1
on the immedite right side of the tac squad#1(equipped with rockets) (from my point of view) is the land raider
to the right of this landraider is the dreadnought
to the left of the forest sits tactical sqaud# 2
to the left of tac squad# 2 sits veteran squad
behind veteren squad sits speeder bikes
to the direct N of the forest lies Tactical sqaud#3
so heres the game plan
we roll and i go first.
NECRON TURN 1
i move the rest of any warriors into the ruins SE of the forest. they are unseeable
then i veil of darkness behind his speeder bikes
night bringer moves up 6"
i move my wraith up to assualt space marine squad #3
the destroyers let it rip on the bikes, killing two of them
the night bringer gets a lucky lighting shot and puts the DREADNOUGHT (WOOO) outta commision.
Wraith moves up and assaults space marines squad #3, killing one marine
The battle field is quiet. All around the sounds of the night and nature can be heard. A ghostly benemoth of a figure glides effortlessly through the tall grasses, stalking its prey. Suddenly, a great blast of lighting goes off, streaking into the distance. a metallic groan is heard far away, followed by a the sound of an immense explosion.
SPACE MARINE TURN 1
he moves his last bike back into a flanking position behind my lord
his veteran squad moves up towards my destroyers
nothing else moves
he fires his bike at the Destroyer Lord, landing a lucky shot.
his veteran squad moves in on my destroyers, shooting down 2 of them.
he fires krak missle at NightBringer, hits, but i get my armour save
his squad #2 close combats my wraith and kills it
He also fires everything from land raider at NightBringer, but only deals one wound.
Re-adjust laser sights battle brothers! Sargent Kinley yells into his rocketeers ears. A moment later a whoop of smoke goes up as two krak missles target the large ghastly form in front of them. The sargent curses loudly as one of the rockets goes zooming by. A moment later however, and the other rocket lands right square in the chest of its intended target. "Praise the Emporer" the sargent whispers to himself. A moment later and the smoke settles down. In the distance a figure can be seen, rearing its full hieght up, grinning a face of death, "Reload those rockets marines!"
NECRON TURN 2[/U]
So i begin this turn by rolling in both my Monolith, and my scarab swarms! YAA luck is on my side. i DeepStrike my monolith right betwen tactical squads #2 & #3 which is basically between the northern ruins and the forest. I also deepstrike the scarab Swarms right behind his landraider
i move the Necron Lord behind the speeder bike, along with the lone destroyer
Night Bringer moves up another menacing 6"
alright now its time for combat!
NightBringer assualts space marine squad#3 (rockets) and kills two
the monolith fires its cannons and deals several kills to squads #2 & #3.
warrior squad #2 spills out of the monolith, and trys to do some rapid fire damage, but strangly all the marines make thier armour saves.
necron lord fires its staff of light into the last speeder bike, bursting its fuelsalge to pieces.
the scarabswarms behind the LandRaider assualt full power right into its back side, (and because 9 assualting scarab swarms gives you 36 hits, and they have distruption fields) they blow that biznatch to the Emporers Right Hand.
As the landraider fires everything it has at the menacing figure in front of it, no one notices the tiny metallic figures behind it, burrwoing under the ground. these menacing devils got to work fast, quickly dismantling the LandRaider, and causing a chain explosion to occur inside, killing all of its crew.
SPACE MARINES TURN 3
So my friend starts to panic, and moves both squads 2 and 3 into a circle fire position around warrior squad #2.
The veteran squad hurries to engage in close combat, but dont even come close to makeing it.
his squads 2 and 3 deal 3 casualties to warrior sqaud 2 (he forgot to use rapid fire)
his tac sqaud 1 does close combat with nightbringer, nothing happens on both sides.
he assualts warrior sqaud #2, and i take 3 more casualties
As the warriors appear from the strange alien artefact, the veteran sqaud signals a command to encricle the appearing warriors and open fire. noise far in the west does not sound like human machinery exploding....
NECRON TURN 4
So i WBB roll squad two and none make it. thats ok, i move my monolith and resend squad two through the portal, and all but one warrior fails his WBB
i move my scarab swarms towards the two squads that were trying to flank my warriors.
night bringer ties up the tac sqaud #1. they just cant stop dem crazy 3+ armour saves on marines
the warriors bring to bear rapid fire and deal 2 more casualties to squad 2. Monolith fires cannons, and two more marines in squad 3 die.
i then assualt group three with all nine scarab swarms (which EQUALS 27 WOUNDS!!) and basiclly tie his marines up for good.
i kill a couple of guys i think not sure.........
All around the sound of ceramite being torn asunder can be heard. the warriors that appeared from the hulking obelisk disseaper, only to reapear and slaughter any beings within range
SPACE MARINES TURN 5
by now my friend is in a frienze. he moves all sqauds (cept squad 1#, which is engaging Night Bringer) towards the scarab swarms.
squads 2, 3, and veteran sqaud all assualt my scarabs. they do a whomping 19 wounds. however, the death trap is placed. (im really not sure how this works. it invloves close combat. when a unit charges in for close combat, and both sides have hit, what happens when anotehr unit joins in? does the enemy get to hit them as well too?)
Well my scarab swarms and thier awsome counter attacks did 27 attacks on each unit of space marines. They basiclly killed all but the veteran squad. after this my friend got pretty pissed and stalked away.
All around Space Marines were being swarmed over. They had stood valiantly, slaughtering many more scarabs then could be imagined. But all warriors have thier limits, and eventually the swarm overflowed them, until nothing was left but the skeletons of Men.
well it was a good fight.
all in all i had killed everything in his force but his veteran sqaud.
and here it comes, my shinigh glory. MY TOTAL CASUALTIES WERE
FREAKIN' PWNED!! ONLY 4 CASUALTIES
( guys this is my first battle report, so dont judge.. too harshly)

You scarabs didn't get to attack thier full attacks on both units. They can't do that. Also, you should have lost 6 scarab swarws, (unless you had passed all your saves) because space marines have higher Init.
Vincere Vel Mori
your wrong. each scarab swarm has 3 wounds dude. so 19 wounds would leave each swarm with 1 wound left.
i dont know how the close comabt thing works though.. please explain..
First off, you can't allocate wounds like that. You have to split wounds up so that models are removed. If I cause 7 wounds to 3 stands of swarms, 2 stands are dead and the 3rd has a wound on it. If you have more then one model in a unit carrying wounds around you're doing something wrong.
Second, you desperately need to re-read the close combat rules.
If you have 1 unit engaged with several enemy units, you do not get to unload your full attack strength on each enemy unit. That's just broken beyond belief. You can say 'these 3 guys will hit unit A while the rest hit unit B' assuming you are in base to base and all the other reach requirements are met. But you can't have everyone pile on their full strength on both A and B!!!

May your aim be true, and your targets plentiful.
Ya, you must remove full models whenever possable. Also, you only got 23 attacks, to split betweem both squads, not 27 on each

Just a few points-
When you deep strike you may not assault, so you couldn't of killed the land raider on the turn you landed (not that that would of saved said tank).
Even in close combat you aim to remove whole models, so as soon as 3 wounds are done (i.e those you failed your save against/ got no save) you have to remove a whole scarab base.
Nice report anyway, even with those mistakes you still would of won fairly well, so no loss there.
OY! seems like ive got some MAAJOORRRR re reading of the rules.... wew.. well thanks guys. One of the reasons im not really familiar with CC is that with my necrons... i tend to shy away from it. but thanks a ton
ive got one queastion though. if my enemy charges me with one unit, and then afterwards charges me with another on the same turn, are we supposed to do dice rolls after all units have charged? cause the way we've been doing it is that after a unit enters CC, you do those dice rolls, and then move on to the next area on the map where CC is going on and do those dice rolls. are you supposed to wait till all units have entered CC?

in assault the assaulter must declare all charges and move all assualters into base contact before any dice are rolled thus making it all one assault on one turn vs. many assualts on one turn.
First, keep in mind that everyone is trying to help you with the game rules and though they sound harsh, they are trying to help. Warhammer is quite complicated and definitely has a STEEP learning curve!
The more you play the the clearer the rules will become. I used to play a game then go back and read sections of the rulebook after the game. I'm glad to hear you take the time to read up on everything. Many players are rules challenged! lol
Couple of issues to read up on:
1. Necrons: you can't start a unit of warriors in reserve unless you have the two mandatory already on the table. So, to start with a warrior in reserve it will require three units of warriors. Two deployed on the board and the 3rd in reserve.
2. Read about Multiple wound models and wound allocation rules.
3. Go over the attack allocation in close combat.
4. Deepstrike restrictions: can't charge, but can shoot. Deepstrikers count as moving for shooting restrictions.
5. Destroyer Lord with the unit of destroyers. If he was considered part of that unit or not the closest model to the shooter. He could not be singled out in shooting as he was with/near like sized models. If he was with troops on foot and he was a destroyer lord, then yes, he can be singled out, but with other destroyers, then no.
Otherwise, you did pretty well on the rules.

40K: Tyranid, Necron, Space Wolves
Fantasy: Dark Elves, Lizardmen, Orcs & Goblins, Dwarves
Your wraith got in combat in turn one, without him even moving towards you. You must have been pretty close together.
Also that marine player was super dumb letting the nightbringer get into combat. Why didn't he just keep retreating awat from it (he can move 6'' to).
