Deployment: I'm not talented or motivated enough for pictures or photoshop sketches, so please bear with me We each set up withing 12" of our respective long table edge. All descriptions will be from my (Imperial Fist) perspective. Terrain on his side was not a factor in the fight really. The middle of the table had no cover, and in my side on the left was a hill, in the middle was a small copse of woods, and on the right was a short ziggaraut thing with a cavity in it big enough to hold a squad of marines. My opponent placed the terrain, personally I would have had more cover in No Mans Land if I were him, but was his choice.
He set up 2 squads of Genestealers on the opposite side left flank(Genestealers 1 and 2), the warriors and Zoanthropes just to the right of that, and his Tyrant and last squad of stealers(Genestealers 3) on the right. 3 lictors in reserve. (of course)
I set up a Dreadnought on the leftmost flank, a squad of heavy bolters and a single LST on the hill. The other dread was to the right of that, with my HQ Tac squad in the trees, 2 LST directly behind them. 5 inches more to the right was stationed another Las Tac squad with a Pred right behind it. Then on the right structure put last Tac squad with HB on top. Finally with the last Pred and LST on the far right flank. Effectively made a long line with few gaps.
Tyranids go first, not much to say. They all advance as best they can, no Genestealers got a fleet roll higher than 3. None of his limited ranged were close enough to cause me problems.
My turn. Not too much to move. I reposition the 2 LST's in the middle in front to fire at the Hive Tyrant. It put them in Assault range, but to do crowding on my side there wasn't much hope of otherwise. The other LST on the right targeted the Tyrant, as did one Pred and one Las Cannon Tac squad. 3 MM, 2 Lascannon, and 1 Plasman rifles inflict 5 wounds on the Tyrant, it made 3 6+ invul saves. I didn't expect its luck to hold out much longer tho, but it would have been nice to drop it. The right flank pred and HB tac squad opened up on Genestealers 3, killing 5 of them. The middle Dread and Lascannon squad opened up on the Warriors, leaving only one standing with 1 wound. Left Flank Dread advances to get in range, it and HB squad kill 3 from Genestealers 1.
Ok, Nids get some small payback now. Lictors all show up! They engage my left HB Tac squad on the hill, one charges the middle pred, and another assaults the HB squad on the right. Each manages to kill one marine before being swatted down by well wielded Powerfists. The 3rd immobilzes my middle predator and lives a bit longer. Right flank Genestealers 3 and Tyrant move up. Genestealers are not close enough to charge just yet. Tyrant assaults the 2 LST's instead of the Lascannon squad. I guess he was thinking they were more dangerous to Genestealers than my lascannon squad. Because they moved on the previous turn he actually needed 6's to hit. Got one hit but only stunned it. Genestealers 1 actually was withing 18" of my Left Dread because I'm bad at judging distances, rolled a 6 for Fleet and swarmed over him destroying one dread. Genestealers 2 moves up and Assaults a LST at the base of the hill, destroying it and getting in position to assault either HQ or HB Squad on the left next turn. The Thropes fire big blasts and kill a lone LST, and the Warrior fires but doesn't move up for some reason, not wounding anything.
Fists, turn. Left HB squad opens up on Genestealers 1, killing only 2. Immobilized Pred fires at Genestealers 2, as well as HQ squad and middle Dread wihich also advances to Assault. Genestealers 2 is wiped out in the ensuing carnage. Right Pred, and 2 available LST's drop the Tyrant. Right HB squad only inflicts 1 kill on Genestealers 3. They are going to take a pounding next Assault phase. I feel I've got most of my forces and this battle pretty well wrapped up at this point. Las Squad turns its guns on the remaning lictor and burn it to the ground.
Genestealers 1 on the left flank make some great movement rolls and swarm up the hill, Massacring the entire left HB squad! They consolidate a further 3 inches to my center, but seem far enough that I can let them stew a round. Besides I my HQ squad has a Fist and Master there so I'm not worried. Thropes divide Warp Blasts, missing my remaining Dread and annihilating the not stunned LST. Genestealers 3 assaults Left Tac squad inflicting 5 wounds on 21 attacks. Rend is painful. The Sgt respons by swatting 3 down himself. The lone warrior blasts and assaults HQ squad inflicting no wounds before being cut down.
My 2 remaining LSTs, the Dread, Las Squad 2 and both tanks open up on the 2 Thropes. They can blast a tank open pretty fast and I wanted to save some points since I had this thing wrapped up. Needless to say, he made 4 6+ saves and one was still alive at the end of the round, altho wounded. HQ squad opens up on Genestealers 1, but only inflict 2 kills. That 4+ extended Carapace has really saved the Genestealers some grief. My desparate HB squad on the right battles on, getting only 1 wound from the Genestealers, leaving the Sgt by himself, who once again swats down 3! Its mano e mano on the right flank!
Ok, Genestealers 1 is definitely his MVP squad of the day. Plus my inability to judge distances properly didn't hurt him any either. Making another series of excellent fleet of claw and difficult terrain rolls, they manage to Assault my HQ squad. The charge of 5 Genestealers got 3 rends, and 3 wounds. I rolled 3 2's for armor save so had to suck up 6 wounds in my HQ squad. Unfortunately one of the 3 units in base to base was my HQ, so he had to come out as a casualty before he even got to swing his sword. The remaning Sgt. and marine only combined for 1 kill. Perhaps they should take notes from Sgt. Pain on the right flank. The last Thrope failed to hit anything with its Warp Blast.
Coup de grace. Las squad 2 and last Dread assault Genestealers 1 to assist the beleaguered HQ squad which was down to 2 units. The Genestealers manage another kill before being crushed under powerfists and Dreadnought CCW's. Finally that team is out of my misery, and the Preds and LST manage to finally gun down the last Thrope. Sgt. Pain on the right manages to swat down the last Genestealer and emerge victorious, holding down the right flank almost by himself. Thats the stuff legends are made of.
RESULT: Vicotry for the Imperial Fists. I had 835pts left at the end, but would have been alot more if I hadn't let Genestealers 1 get to my Dreadnought early, which swiftly led to the total collapse of my left flank. That one Genestealer squad accounted for a Dread, a HB squad, my Chapter Master and 4 of the marines to accompany him, in a flurry of claws and swiftness that really impressed the both of us. Hope you enjoyed reading this.

Normally, I don't mix powerfisted sargents and shooty squads, but you just proved the exception: when you plan on your shooty squads to get assaulted and don't have a lot of CC units. Great job, excellent report.
Chief Inspector Dreyfus: Are you wounded?
Clouseau: No. Fortunately I was saved by the darkness.
Chief Inspector Dreyfus: So what we need is more light.
lol you know its a bad tyranid list when u outnumber ur Marine oppenent by 8models lol.
I dunno if u 'nid player comes on here but if so heres wat advice i'd give him...
1. Loose the Acid Maw and Acid Miasama on the tyrant. They really are a waste of points on a fire magnet. I'd only really take them if i was against chaos with their demons or dark eldar with their general cc-gayness and saves.
2. 3 Lictors is such a waste. Take 1 incase of escalation or to take out a tank, but 3 is a silly. They never make their points back. For 2 lictors (160pts) u can get 4x Leaping CC-Tooled up Warriors with twice as many wounds. Plus, u should never charge them into a Marine squad alone, they ALWAYS die straight after and cant tie up sqauds.
3. Wing Warriors are good, best if u fly them around with ur tyrant. But keep them cheap i.e. Rendering and Scything Talons, dont even give them biomorphs. If they get into combat with the tyrant there isnt much that can square up to them. Also, no point in giving them deathspitters esp without enhanced senses.
4. Tooo many genestealers. At 21pts they are more that a marine and no where near as effective. If u want an all Genestealer Army u need to break up the squads into small numbers, say 4 x 6. That way it'll limit ur damage against a whole squad opening up on u cos u can only loose a max 6models. U'd also need to give some of them scuttle to get into combat quicker.
5. 2 zoanthropes are good. Not a massive fan of them myself but alot of people do and there isnt anything too wrong with them. They did disappointing in this game tho :-/
Alots more Gaunts. They are good for taking the fire from the marines while u close on the enemy. Horms are esp good for closing the gaps but spines will provide a shield for ur stealers.
LandSpeeders are a ***** to deal with as nid. If u play him again take a 'Dakka Dakka Fex':
123 - Carnifex: Enhanced Senses, 2x twin-linked devourers.
4x strength6 shot re-rolling to hit is a good swatter. Keep him with ur gaunts early for covering fire then go hunting. Plus, hes quite cheap but can take quite alot of fire which will take away from ur tyrant, warriors and zoans. If u really want, u can add Extended Carapace for a 2+ save which will put him at the 150mark. He can take even more fire, and can be used to get the Annihilators where u want them as they come looking for him e.g. Near cover for ur lictor to spring them or away / closer to ur tyrant.
Also u could do with a normal Gunfex just for fire support.
163 – Carnifex: Enhanced Senses, Reinforced Chitin, Venom Cannon, Barbed Strangler.
They can do well with tanks (remember there are no good results on the glance table) and the barb can kill / pin the troops. Personally I'd take the Chitin the +W will help as u will prob be staring down the barrel of the gun, Tho u can take Carapace for the annoying 2+ save.
But on another note, well done on ur victory slamfu. Its a nice report, good list and comfortable win.
"They are coming! I feel them scratching inside my mind, scratching, screaming, running, so many - so, so many voices. They're coming for us - flesh, body and soul!"
I'm not sure if you were aware, but your army is actually too many points. You actually come in at 1525.
i added it up to get 1500 exact...Originally Posted by Gorfang
add it up without using the numbers he gave and it's 1525.
I think it's the points for the landspeeders that are the primary culprit. I don't think he paid for the HF's on the Tornados. I came to 1215 before adding them. Can't remember point values for those Tornado options and don't have my codex here...Originally Posted by Gorfang
Anyways, great win for the boys in yellow. But I would have liked to see a couple of Vindicators instead of Predators for a really fluffy list.
Would like to see these guys in a city fight!
You guys are right, I'm sorry but I meant to just include Mutli Meltas and not Hvy Flamers on the LST. Good catch. They were pretty much there to just gun down any Tyrants and Fexes he brought. I was going to leave the rest of the troop mulching to the Dreads and Preds. My mistake.
For the record though, I approve of the use of Imperial Fists. It takes a real man to use yellow. Unfortunately, I didn't see anything that resembled a fluffy Fist-type unit (some sort of bunker breaker) but I'll let it slide as you did the work of the Emperor rather well
