Hey everyone. This is the report on the event that we had at my local store today. Hope you all enjoy. This is of course part of Medusa V, so the results all count towards that.
The first two games would be Combat Patrol Missions, and the results of the games would affect the larger mega-battle at the end. My first game was against the Necrons (the very army that massacred my Marines not a week ago).
Flesh Tearer Space Marines
- Veteran Sergeant with bolt pistol and power fist
- 1 with meltagun
- 7 with bolters
- Veteran Sergeant with bolt pistol and power fist
- 8 with bolt pistols and close combat weapons
Land Speeder Tornado
- Assault Cannon
- Heavy Bolter
Total: 390 (yes, I know I could have taken an upgrade of some sort, but I didn’t. I was thinking of taking a Missile Launcher in my Tactical Squad, but I was too lazy to pull the model out of my case, okay? Lay off).
- Staff of Light
- 11 with Gauss Flayers
6 Flayed Ones
Total: 406 (Okay, so he was over. Boo hoo).
Scenario: A Necron force had been probing Imperial Defenses near the ruins of a small Imperial mining colony just outside of Hive Tisiphone. Finally tiring of the minor assaults on the Imperial Citizens that resided there, Chapter Master Seth himself ordered that a small force be stationed at the colony to wait for the next Necron assault. The Space Marines were not kept waiting long…
Objective: Capture the large Cooling Tower in the middle of the table by having more scoring units within 6” of it at the end of the 6th turn.
Deployment: The board was covered with nicely modeled city terrain, which mean that there was plenty of cover for both sides to take advantage of. Aside from the Cooling Tower in the center, there was a small landing pad next to the tower, as well as various ruins scattered about the table.
The Necrons deployed first by putting a unit of Warriors at the edge of the Necron Deployment Zone, so that they could cover the distance to the objective as quickly as possible. In return, I placed my Tactical Squad behind a building, about 10” in from the table edge on my left side, and prepared to rush the Necron patrol to keep them away from the objective.
In response, the Necrons deployed their Lord, which allowed me to place my Land Speeder behind the same building that the Tactical Squad took shelter behind. The Necron Flayed Ones opted not to Infiltrate and chose to set up on the upper levels of a building in their Deployment Zone. Shrugging, I placed my Scouts directly behind the Cooling Tower with their Infiltrate Special Rule.
The Necrons won the roll to go first, so they advanced methodically toward the objective. With all of my units out of line of sight, the Necron turn ended swiftly.
Seeing the metallic warriors approaching, the Space Marines wasted no time. The Tactical Squad moved forward toward the Cooling Tower, hoping to get into a decent position as quickly as possible so that they could open fire with their bolters. The Land Speeder moved so that it could draw a line of sight to the Flayed Ones, and the Scouts stayed put, deciding that it was best to wait for support before charging the enemy.
The Tornado opened fire, and knocked a single Flayed One to the ground in a hail of brutal firepower.
The Flayed One pulled itself back to its feet, glaring at the Land Speeder with cold, emotionless eyes. The Flayed Ones descended to the lower level of the building that they stood inside, so as to avoid and more fire from the Land Speeder. The Warriors continued to advance, accompanied by their Lord.
Gripped by the Black Rage, the Scouts rushed the Necron Warriors, unable to restrain themselves. The Tactical Squad ran as fast as was possible toward the coming battle, desperate to lend a hand to the overly eager Scouts. The Land Speeder moved onto the landing pad to draw a bead on the Warriors, in order to lend a hand to the Scouts who would soon be involved in a vicious close quarters fight.
The Land Speeder fired and knocked a single Warrior down with its Heavy Bolter, while another was pulverized by the Assault Cannon. That particular Warrior would not be coming back. The Scouts also fired their bolt pistols, but to no effect.
Roaring like beasts, the Scouts assaulted the Necron Warriors, tearing into their ranks in a fury. With superhuman strength, the Scouts knocked 2 Warriors to the ground as well as removing 2 Wounds from the Lord. The Lord struck back, killing one of the youthful warriors with a single stroke. The Veteran Sergeant smashed the Necron Lord to the ground with his power fist immediately afterward, as the Necron Warriors caused no casualties on the Scouts.
The Lord rose calmly, its metallic body knitting the gaping hole in its chest in an instant. Two of the three Warriors rose to their feet again as well, reinforcing the numbers of the engaged Necrons. The Flayed Ones approached the combat quickly.
With all of their forces engaged or lacking missile weapons, the Necrons did not fire any weapons, so the Flayed Ones charged the Scouts, killing 3 of them. Another was struck down by the Lord. Three Flayed Ones were knocked down by the Scouts and before yet another Scout was butchered at the hands of the Warriors. The Veteran floored the Lord with yet another blow from his power fist. None of the combatants considered retreat, so the battle continued.
The Land Speeder carefully moved out of sight, as it was unable to fire at any targets as they were all engaged in close combat. The Tactical Squad rushed the Necrons.
Howling in fury, the Tactical Squad slammed into the Flayed Ones from behind, and butchered every single one of them. The Scouts fought bravely, but were finally killed by the Warriors. The Tactical Squad piled in, and the fight continued for yet another turn.
With their Lord out of action, the Necrons would be hard pressed to defeat their opponents, especially now that the Tactical Squad had arrived to replace the brave Scouts. A single Warrior fell to a blow from the Veteran’s power fist, but it was not enough to replace the loss of 3 Tactical Marines. Realizing that the situation was hopeless, the Marines fell back.
Unable to rally, the Marines continued to fall back, fleeing behind the Cooling Tower. However, the Land Speeder rose from behind the building that it had been hiding behind and unleashed holy fury upon the Necrons, blasting them badly enough to cause them to fall back as well!
Under half strength, the Necrons could not rally, so they continued to fall back. Due to the And They Shall Know No Fear rule, the Flesh Tearers rallied right beside the Cooling Tower, winning me the game.
Thoughts: At the beginning, I figured that everything was going to be just fine. Things were totally going my way right up until the Tactical Squad fell back. It was at this moment that I started sweating, as the Necrons just advanced behind my unit, remaining within 6” so that I could not rally. If the Land Speeder hadn’t done so much damage, the Necrons would have easily captured the objective. Praise the Emperor!
I’ll post game 2 later on.
Congrats on the win. Always good to smash the toasters. Was this the same person you'd been trying to play for several days now?
Keep it up Tisiphone!
"Wife! You are abusing that Leman Russ model!"
Yes, it was. He was forced to play me by the staff. Pretty sad when someone is so scared of their opponent that they actually have to be forced into a game, huh?:sleep:Originally Posted by ChaplainCaedfelI will do so, Brother.Keep it up Tisiphone!
How Ironic, that those Crons were toast.
One thing, you have written that the lord died to a powerfist, so how the hell did he stand back up? I don't see a res orb on him.
Good question. We kind of forgot that he can't get up to a power weapon... ah well.Originally Posted by The_Outsider

you are not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You are the same decyaing organic matter as everyone else. Until you accept the fact that you are going to die, you are useless. This is your life. Good to the last drop.
