Medusa V -- Iron Warriors Attack Sybilla Primus

I fought my third (and biggest) Medusa V game today, a roughly 2,600-point cities of death campaign fought over Sybilla Prime. A brief little fluff behind how my army got there...

After two battles with one of the Tau players at my local retailer, the Storm Dragons (my SM chapter) had been driven out of the Ash Wastes and had fled into Sybilla Primus to recover and regroup before they would mount a massive counterattack to crush the Tau.

At dawn on the day of the planned attack, a large Iron Warriors force under the command of Lord Ferric Rader forced their way into the city, and the Storm Dragons, under Librarian Galfrius, set up barricades and took up fortified positions to defend against the attack...

    A rundown of the forces...

    My army

    TOTAL POINTS: 2,665

I don't know the exact makeup of his army, but he had a Basillisk, a VDR Land Raider with a Gatling Assault Cannon, a Twin-Linked Assault Cannon, Multi-Melta, and Twin-Linked Lascannon, a few Chaos Marine squads, a squad of Raptors, a Chaos Lord with some sort of nasty escort, and a whole bunch of Obliterators.

I got first turn, and the battle started heavily in my favor... The infiltrating Devastator squad destroyed his Basilisk before it could get off a single shot. Sniper fire started plucking away slowly but surely at his obliterators, and my tactical squads hunkered down behind their barricades and wailed away. He managed to stun my tanks for several turns, which kept them from doing a lot of a damage.

It was a slow, footsloggy battle as his forces gradually crept closer to mine, taking hails of gunfire the whole way. The battle centered around a square-shaped intact building which we couldn't enter, and the battle splintered into a main engagement on the south side of the board, where my vehicles and tactical Marines were, and the north side, where his Chaos Lord advanced on my Veterans and Snipers.

The major turn in the battle came when he got into CC range... His Raptors, Chaos Lord, and what few Obliterators survived my sniping and plasma gun shots ripped my army to shreds pretty quickly. They wrecked my Dreadnaught, annihilated my tactical marines, destroyed the Land Raider, and took out a weapon on the Predator Annihilator. My Terminators landed on Turn 3 with my Librarian, but some horrendous rolls ensured that they were wiped out by Turn 5.

Near the game's end, it was clear I had lost, so I said "screw it" and drove my turretless Predator into his Raptor squad... They broke and ran clear off the table.

In the end, the Random Game Length took us to 7 turns, and I walked away from the battle with two scouts, two veterans, and a Predator with no turret. It was a bloody battle, and we both lost tons of forces -- there was hardly anything left but tattered remnants on the board by the end of the battle, and we managed to entertain our store for the whole afternoon. Great fight, but I was a little sad to lose my shot at my first Medusa V victory. All in all, a great fight, and against a guy I hope to face again.

I have to say, making a raptor squad break and flee like scared little wood elves with a toothless predator is quite possibly the most awesome thing I've heard of happening in any 40K battle. My hat's off to your predator crew. XD

Lol, great batrep. On of the basic rulels of Combat: Don't let Chaos get to you. Unless they are Tzeentch, and you have Powerfists.

Good game, sorry to hear you lose.

Yeah, it got pretty ugly then... My plasma guns were out in full force though.. all that S7 AP2 goodness really helped out, I cut down more than my share of troops with those. But once he took out the marines on the ground, my vehicles got swamped, my Termies got some really nasty rolls, and oh well. There's still over a month of action to be played!
