Epistolary: Uriel Bartholomew
Admantine Cloak, Force Weapon, Power Sword, Fury of the Ancients, Wrath of Heroes (I think that's what it's called, working off memory :/ )
Tasked by Force Commander, Master of Sanctity, Nicodemus Lot, Uriel is the strong right arm of this Deathwing detatchment. Using his masterful knowledge of tactics and powerful psychic abilities, he hopes to overcome any assignment given to him by Lot.
Uriel's Command Squad (Prime): 4 Deathwing Terminators w/ 2 AC, and Sarge. Tank hunter, teleport homers and auspex
Squad Gamma 5 Deathwing Terminators w/ 2 AC, and Sarge. Tank hunter, teleport homers and auspex.
Squad Alpha 5 Deathwing Terminators w/ 2 AC, and Sarge. Tank hunter, teleport homers and auspex.
Squad Beta 5 Deathwing Terminators w/ 2 AC, and Sarge. Tank hunter, teleport homers and auspex.
(Now before you beat me up for taking all tank hunters, this is my standard loadout. I refused to be silly and change it simply for one fight. Overall it works beautifully, and it would ruin the fluff of the battleforce. Against Tyranid though? Yeah pretty pointless.)
1 Warrior brood, with wings.
1 Warrior brood w/o wings (leaping)
1 swarm of gaunts
1 swarm of genestealers
Stratagems: I chose Preliminary Bombardment and Medicae Facility. Opponent's choices were Preliminary Bombardment and Deepstrike.
HIVE SYBILLA PRIMUS
An urgent dispatch was wired to Commander Lot. It requested immediate heavy support of an Imperial Medicae facility in Hive Sybilla Primus. Lot contacted Epsitolary Bartholomew at Geryon base, where his Deathwing company was reinforcing the airfield. Uriel Bartholomew's new orders were simple. Defend the medicae facility at all costs. Coming straight from reinforcing Geryon Base against a mechanized Eldar threat, his men had recieved very little time for rest and resupply. No matter, they were Astartes...more they were Deathwing.
"I will take the third floor proper, Prime, get assault cannons at every window. I want a wall of death erected now! Alpha, Beta, you take the ground floor, spread out and cover all streets to the facility. Frag anything that moves!" Uriel's face contorted in an angry grimace. "If reports are accurate, we will be "crawling" in moments." He looked to Sargeant Malachi of Gamma squad, and rested a gauntleted hand on his shoulder. "Malachi, my brother. You will have the honor of being our sword today. Your actions at Geryron base has earned you as much. You will attempt to lead the "bugs" into our flytrap."
Malachi grinned and nodded. "Consider it done Brother." He signaled his men, spinning his finger into the air, and they moved out. The Terminator squad spread out in the street, outside the facility, at an intersection, and waited.
"We have contacts Brother.." Malachi voiced into his Vox. Uriel sprinted to the third floor, taking postion on the gutted out rooftop, commanding a view of the entire field.
"I see them." Uriel growled signaling to his squad to get ready. The Tyranid swarm massed not two blocks away. Outnumbered again. Uriel grinned, nothing new, he preferred it that way. "Cathederal Monastary Redeemer, this is Deathwing Redemption, request for immediate orbital strike to the following co-ordinates...." Uriel squinted and rattled off the lattitude and longitude, then waited.
Hisses filled the air, and massive spore munitions rained down on the medical facility. Uriel swore, Gamma squad took knees and hunched their heads, taking as best cover as they could in the open street. Vile spores exploded into the back of the medical facility, and peppered his force with bio shrapnel. Beta squad lost one man, Uriel saw where the impact had lifted and tossed the Marine through a wall and into the street. His Tactical Dreadnaught armor twisted beyond all hope of recovery.
He stood, enraged, and glared out across the Xenos, raising a hand in fury and directing it spread towards the host of vile Xenos. Hell rained from the skies, orbital salvos turning the street in front of Gamma squad to blasted rubble, vaporizing a clutch of gaunts. Uriel grinned, and unleashed a psychic fusilade. A Tyranid warrior exploded into blasted chunks, along with another genestealer, his Fury of the Ancients flensing them where they crawled.
Gamma squad opened fire, shredding 'gaunts with assault cannon and storm bolter as they picked their way through the rubble strewn intersection. "They're buying it Brother!" Malachi roared over his vox laughing. "Hook, line, an..." his vox casting was suddenly cut off, and Uriel looked down to Gamma's position.
"Holy Throne...." he breathed. Streaking in from the sky, around a gutted building, death came for Gamma, on hooked wings. A swarm of Tyranid warriors dropped on Gamma squad like a hunting bird, and in the moment it took Malachi to turn to engage, the full host of 'gaunts rushed in, swarming them in a tide of chitin, and snapping jaws.
"LICHTOR!!!" the warning was roared, storm bolters chattering and cutting off as their owners went fist to claw with the monsters. Prime squad took a knee and Uriel pointed the two chameleon beasts out. Prime engaged, taking some losses, however, chitin proved no match for powerfist. The lichtors however had done thier job, they had delayed Uriel's forces.
Genestealers swarmed the entrance of the hospital, tearing Beta squad to ribbons, and engaging Alpha. Uriel ground his teeth. Things had gotten out of control. But his orders were clear. Any cost. "STRENGTH MEN! DO NOT FALTER!"
Sargent Malachi's dying scream pierced through Uriel's voxcaster, and Uriel bowed his head. "There are too many...." he breathed, shaking his head. "They will PAY FOR THIS!" Uriel turned, the winged warriors that had just taken down Gamma squad, was now ravaging his own command squad. Alpha and Beta were annihilated, the genestealers swarming the facility. The facility was lost. Uriel could see another clutch of warriors just outside, hanging back under the shadows of a wrecked hab block.
He snarled, snapping out his force sword, and power sword in a blazing arc before him. He thumbed them to life, and glared death at the swarming warriors, the last man of his squad falling in pieces before him, torn apart by rending talons. "Come then Xenos! Is this where I shall finally fall?!" He backed through an archway and held. Only two could come at a time, he would kill every last one of them, one at a time if needs be. He parried a few claw strikes and struck out himself, roaring in defiance. "You will not take me Xenos!" he roared, striking at them with all his fury, all his anger at the loss of his battle brothers.
"Uriel!" Nicodemus Lot's voice rang from his 'caster. "You have to get out of there! Evacuate now!"
"NO!" Uriel screamed, enraged, hacking at the Tyranid warriors in a fury.
"We will not be served with your death Brother! We still need you!" Lot soothed.
Uriel ground his teeth. "I will not forget this. My brothers will be avenged..." He spun sideways away from the warriors, and keyed his teleport beacon, transporting in a spreading haze of blue-white light.
Yeah. Lasted the full 6 turns, and ended with a negative roll for extra turns.
My mistakes were holding up in the medicae building, as I thought its benefit would work better than it did. Alas, I forgot about rending. As feel no pain doesn't work for rending, it was completely worthless to me. So massing in the building let him swarm me and engage in hand to hand, and at that point it was all over.
On a good note, Uriel proved himself the hero he is. He lasted 2 and 1/2 rounds BY HIMSELF, against my opponents almost barely wounded army. He was standing on the top of a building where nothing could reach him, but two warriors at a time. He held them off till the last turn and so I'm assuming he escaped. Moral Victory for me. As well as a smashing defeat. I learned a lot from my first Cityfight.
nice report. i liked that little quote from starship troopers, "crawling"
PM me about Aurora Prime Vassal fights! Willing and ready!
Thanks. The scene of the whole game was my Librarian standing on top of a building surrounded by Tyranid, pulling a Jet Li from "The One". We were laughing hard by the end of turn six.
Termies shouldn't hunker down vs Nids. Cover rarely helps with them as they'll have flesh hoooks and dont shoot anything you need cover from anyways. They'll always come to you, so you should be firing and moving each round since you have Stormbolters. Just keep falling back to get yourself an extra round or two of ranged attks. Its the biggest advantage Terminators have over regular marines, their mobility.
Oh I know that very much. I mistakenly thought the medicae facility would work better than it did, otherwise I'd have never taken cover, and shot him to ribbons. Sitting in cover like an idiot lost the game for me. The medicae became my "shiny" that fight, and like the moth, the bug zapper got me.
Hehe sorry. Didn't mean to lecture a Deathwing player on the correct use of termies I'm sure you'll get paybaks soon enough.
Plan on it today actually. Hehe. We'll see if he shows up for the gaming today or not. We kinda have a grudge as I massacred him our game before, and actually made him "run away" from close combat with me. My wall of fire scared him.
awsome report man!
hope to see more reports by your talented story telling techniques. as you mentioned before, holding up in the building was your undoing. don't worry i would have done the exact same thing with my terminators, those darn rending attacks....
good luck with your next game and don't forget to tell us about it!
Vey Nice, i'm not sure if a Terminator could stomp up some stairs but otherwise very nice. Rending can be a real pain.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
The rescue mission to recover Brother Malachi is something that I will make plans to attend. I really do like it. Who needs campaign experience when you can "promote" someone. I really do look forward to seeing him with bionics.
Of course, seeing Uriel in all of his glory would be a sight to see as well. But Chaplain Grimm himself. *bows head in respect* would be AWESOME!!
