As some may know, i have been plaing the Medusa V campaign scince it started. some may know about my 4000 point game aginst necrons. This is how the campaign works for my local club: we get in groups of 4 and play 1 location. we play 3 games (play each player once) and the 2 best players face of to win that sector. then that group moves to another location/ sector. by the end of the tournament the player with most sector win gains the prize and bragging rights.
so after 3 weeks (well almost 3 weeks) we have played the 3 locations (hive perseus, MEF and the island) (these are all from the australian Sector)
ok so i made it to the final. i won all 3 sectors from my group. the enemy was to be orks.
The day came, i pulled out my list and he pulled out his. it was a 1000 point CoD game to be based around hive perseus. giving the final result of the whole campaign (within out club of course)
Power Claw, Slugga, Eavy Armour
Nob, Power Claw
30 Slugga Boyz
30 Slugga Boyz
30 Slugga Boyz
Big Gunz Battery
3 Zzap Guns
9 extra krew
Suffer Not the UNlcean To Live
Krack Grenades, Bolt Pistol, Terminator Honors, Holy Orb Of Antioch.
10 Initiates, 5 Neophytes, Plasma Gun, Power Fist.
10 Initiates, 5 Neophytes, Plasma Gun Gun, Power Fist.
5 Initiates, Melta Gun, Power Sword.
Land Speeder Tornado
Assault Cannon, Heavy Bolter
when i saw the ork list, i almost kraped myself... 90 basic orks. not only could i not out shoot them but i could not out assault them either... the battle must go on i decided...
we played on a 4x4 board, alpha mission. i decided i had to go for a smart stratagem... so i decided on medicae fecility in the centeral building hoping this is where the fighting would be taking place.
he chose infultrate
Mission came to be a fire sweep... (damn i thought, i am actually gonna have to try and wipe his forces out... dang)
the deployement was simple. he crammed everything he could as close to me as he could. we were practically 18 inches apart.
It was 12 o'clock shaarp when his first tunr began.
as i watched carfully to what he aws doing, i noticed that his tactics were a little un orky, he had his war boss move forward by himself with 1 squad of 30 orks behind it. the other 2 styaed behind. after the movement was done, his zzap guns opened fire on the dreadnought. only 2 out of the 3 could see the dread but i new it was going to be painful no matter what happened.
He rolled for strenght... one gun scored snake eyes and the other score 7. this could have gone either way. i was hoping the dice gods were on my side, particuarly dice god 1.
Now the tension was enormas, he shoock the dice in his hands. the rolls came... praise dice god 1, 3 ones popped up giving him a total for his 2 zzap guns a 4 and an 11. just short.
his warboss and 3 orks shot at one of my crusader sqauds. the one in which my chaplain had joined. a foolish mistake and one of the initiates died. i prayed to dice god 6... and the god answered. The black templars threw them selves at the enemy with rightious fury.
now it was my turn. my land speeder pulled around to the left flank to past the dreadnought and locked in on the gun battery. the dreadnought to a left flanking position with the small crusaider squad. the EC lead the other crusader squad down the right flank. the Chaplain Led crusader squad moved around to be exactly 7 inches away. with 4 bolt guns, 2 plasma gun shots and 12 bolt pistols facing the warboss and attached squad what could possibly go wrong.
once again a favour was asked from the dice gods, and things went well. in all the squad killed 10 orks. impressive i thought. the dreadnought soon came to kill 4 more (thanks to you assault cannon) the other crusader squads pitched in to help with the fire fight. enough orks died for them to have to make a mob size cheack after failing their Ld test.... (praise the dice gods) the orks rolled a 12, with their umbers only 11, they failed and ran. falling back 7 inches.
the Land speeder did its best to shoot at the gun batteries there were 2 hits on the gretchen and 3 hits on the big guns. luckily the dice gods were smiling and 2 of the guns were destroyed and 1 grechin died.
with turn 1 over things were looking good.
turn 2 was a little different. his falling back ork squad kept going, failing to rally. his commando's poped up behind the dreadnought and he moved everything forwar, except for the only zzap gun.
just ouf assault range from his slugga boyz, he let me have it (sarcasum). nothing... not 1 shot hit... (quite ammusing) :shifty:
his zzap gun shot directly at the land speeder... blowing it to millions and millions of pieces.
the burners ended up doing nothing to the dreadnought, and the slugga's just bounced off the rear armour...
his turn was over... not really that devestating, sure the land speeder is valuable but...
as i expected his tactics became orky, everyone fight in the middle. so i pushed as much as i could into assault range and bolt pistol fire. the dreadnought did his thing had shot down the kommando's but they were stupid enough to hold.
the middle once again became a fire fight, with bolt pistols blazing 5 orks died, out of 60. yawn...
with no other option but to charge, my emperors champion lead the way. he singled out one of the nobs and with grace he swung his sword and cut the nob down. the rest of the marines smashed into the ork boyz. it was a slaughter fest. 39 orks were killed. thanks to the dice gods and re rolling chaplain fun fest!!! then it all turned horribly wrong....
the dreadnought had charged into the small mob of kommando's, doing nothing, other than getting a power claw through its face. the orks struck back, killing a hidious amount of marines, 12 marines died. my squads were now chaplain + 4 Initiates + 5 Neophytes, EC + 5 Intitates + 5 Neophytes and 3 Initiates.hideously out numbered.
in the next turn the kommandos reached the back of the huge fight, the warboss returned and the EC picked him out and smahsed his face in thank god. by the end of turn 3 all i had left was my chaplain, 2 intitates with a power fist each and 6 neophytes.
all he had was 24 orks. so i guess you could say it was fairly even.... ish..
the next turn was quite humorus, my chaplain and his powerfist buddy chased down 1 squad and killed them completly, the EC killed the last Nob. the neophytes chased down the remaing orks. in all after 4 turns all i had left was 4 Neophytes, the Emperors Champion, My Chaplain and 1 Intitate. all the orks had was 1 Zzap gun with 5 krew and a slaver...
with no characters wounded i won the game by victory points... thus overall wining the tournament...
* after game thoughts*
sure orks can be a funny army, but they are certainly ascary scene when there are 100 orks staring at you in 1000 points.
i new how this game was going to end up, my chaplain and thats it. i find that chaplains never die in my BT army... they always seem to survive  .
This was the fisrt time i face orks on such a huge scale in such low points. so i ask this to ork players, was this guys list a gamble rather than startergy?
i find it amazing how much close combat can affect the game. being fearless in close combat means BT's are quite a fearsome force to be faced with, never beaing able to chase them down and kill them. this is a huge advantage for BT players in combat. even though i never "lost" a combat in the game it still felt like i was loosing the combats, because i was loosing heaps of guys.
i guess i had this advice for the ork player, "Leman Russ with hull mounted Heavy Bolter".... AP 3... yes please!!!
well i won the tournament, and got the prize... and bragging rights.
i know its a dodgy report... infact its not really a report. its more of a story of how a chaplain prevailed... i just wanted to share my triumph with other marine players...and laugh at ork players... AHHHHHHHH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA....... ok i am done... :w00t:
what to people think about our little tournament system? its kind of like a tennis tournament... and YES there are dice gods... you must belive!!!
How did you single out the Nob? He is just a sargent not an IC, you can't direct attacks at him.
As for the campain it seemed a good system, but also a lot of game were required. I guess it depends on how much people's scheduals can shift.
Congrats on the win but I would have predicted an Ork victory. I think what saved you was the Alpha level, lack of terrain means he probably didn't get cover saves from your shooting, and the 6 you rolled on turn 1 after his shooting, which let your Chaplain get the assault (instead of getting assaulted).
I would say his list is fine for 1000 points. Made from a cookie cutter not doubt but 90 boys on a 4x4 table ususally can't go wrong. Tweaking it to 28 boyz per mob and buying a grot screen would have saved some boyz from shooting, but I'm sure he expected to make some cover saves.
EDIT: thinking about it some more a grot screen would have been a good idea, they can give a mob extra movement (good for crossing difficult terrain). Of course if you declared everything not a building is a road then I suppose that it's not a big deal.

i know, my oponent knows... but he said to me i want the nobs to fight the EC... i think he was hoping to power claw me so i wouldent get a save... he didnt know a whole lot about the EC....Originally Posted by xrix1
doesnt the emporers champion have some kind of challenge rule, where he goes straight to a character? im pretty sure it worked on squad leaders as well as IC's, but im not sure.
It lets him move into BTB with other ICs, that is all, he has no ability to single out models in a squad. Even if you attacked the nob in CC, he could pull the wounds out from the squad the nob is a part of (as long as they are within 2 inches of a model in BTB of the EC) and then powerclawed you with the 4 str 8 overkilling powerfist attacks a nob gets.
Oh well in this case you both knew the rules and desided to do something for fun, which is what the game is about. Congrats on your win, that Orc list is nasty in 1K game, but he may have done better with killer cans instead of the gun battery.
Anyone else getting the ork list to come out to 1324 points? Should he only have 2 mobs of boyz?
Holy kripes slamfu, you're right. No wonder the BT's were having such a hard time.
Damn, you managed to beat him, in close combat not less, and you were outnumbered in points by almost 50%!!!
My hat's off to you.
I am officially scared of BT's now.
May your aim be true, and your targets plentiful.
Maybe I am incredibly bad at math, but for all the point costs of the ork army above, its 1324 points, not 1000.

ouch. I cry for the orks. Looks like the dice gods were your friend for the issue of fairness 324 pts is a ton. You did get tons of awesome rolls though.. lots of orks can be VERY scary in CC. sheer number of attacks, especially with 4+ instead of 3+, can hurt. But glad someone prevailed over numbers for once
