TO: Captain Sicarius of the Ultramarines, CinC Adeptus Astartes in Medusa V Theater of Operations
FROM: Captain Felix, acting commander of Blood Angels Task Force Falchion
ASTROPATH: Rye N’ Delp
SUBJECT: Dark Eldar raid thwarted at Geryon Strip Mines
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Cleanse, burn, kill!
Deployed as part of Medusa Task Force 138 “Thor’s Hammer, elements of Task Force Falchion continue to execute missions in support of Operation Rolling Thunder. A column of refugees from Battlezone Edethor had taken shelter for the night in a ruined hab block near the mines themselves. Veteran Scout Sergeant Josias then sighted a Dark Eldar raiding party heading for the refugees. Brother Chaplain Caedfel ordered an immediate intercept. The following is being dictated by myself, Captain Felix, based on pict captures and information from Sanguiniary High Priest Lucas, as Brother Chaplain Caedfel is currently incapacitated.
The Dark Eldar force consisted of between four and five medium strength units of foot troopers in scarab like armor, and equipped with rifles that fired a strange xenos crystalline ammunition (Cross Reference Datafax “Warrior), two units of profane, half nude xenos female berserkers (Cross Reference Datafax “Wyches), a unit of swift flying jetbikes (Cross Reference Datafax “Reaver), and the raider leader himself (itself?) surrounded with heavily armed and armored bodyguards (Cross Reference Datafaxes Archon(?), Drachon(?) and Incubi). The xenos are so bedecked in spikes and blades it is a wonder they don't impale themselves when they walk about.
Brother-Chaplain Caedfel led a sizeable unit of the most honored brothers of the Death Company, while Veterean Sergeant Gasparus led an Assault Squad, accompanied by Sanguiniary High Priest Lucas. Veterean Scout Sergeant Josias came as well, along with Tactical Squads Benedictus, Davidus, Marcus, and Patricus. Attack Bike Squadron Claudius along with Brother Philipus’s landspeeder rounded out the force. The refugees, alerted to the situation by a voxcast from Veteran Scout Sergeant Josias, managed to leave the immediate area before the battle erupted.
Squad Benedictus took control of a ruined habitation unit, setting up in its upper levels, while Squads Davidus, Marcus and Patricus all spread out within the hab block, seizing buildings to use as firebases. Brother Chaplain Caedfel took the western flank with the Death Company, supported by Philipus’s landspeeder, while Sanguiniary High Priest Lucas took the east, supported by Squadron Claudius.
The foul xenos took similar measures, with two “Warrior squads taking control of two abandoned habs, with a third, two “Wych squads, and three misshapen torturer-warrior creatures all headed along our western flank. The raider leader and his bodyguards sheltered in a ruin near the rear for most of the engagement, and the jetbikes moved on an intercept course for Squad Gasparus and Sanguiniary High Priest Lucas.
Our Tactical squads traded small arms fire with their xenos counterparts across the ruined hab block for most of the battle. This engagement, however, was decided in the fashion that all true children of Sanguinius prefer: in hand to hand. Brother-Chaplain Caedfel and the most honored brothers of the Death Company tore through two separate “Warrior squads, the two “Wych squads and the accompanying torturer-warriors before entering the central hab building during the latter parts of the battle (taking casualties all the while). Meanwhile, the eastern flank was secured by Sanguiniary High Priest Lucas and Squad Gasparus, destroying the jetbikes and then seizing a building from its xenos defenders with minor losses. Squadron Claudius and Brother Philipus’s landspeeder were both, unfortunately, gunned down in this time.
In the central hab building, Squad Patricus, Brother-Chaplain Caedfel and the Death Company, and Scout Squad Josias engaged a unit of warriors….and then the dread raider leader and his fell bodyguards. This central hab building became a charnel house, and when the noise ended inside, only the xenos leader and a single bodyguard remained upright. At this point the unclean slavers chose to flee: the leader, his bodyguard, and a under strength “Warrior squad in the rear were all that remained, while Squads Benedictus, Marcus and Davidus all held buildings surrounding the central hab, ready to gun down the last xenos. Sanguiniary High Priest Lucas and Squad Gasparus also held a building in the enemy rear on the eastern flank. It was after the battle that we were able to recover both Brother-Chaplain Caedfel and Veteran Scout Sergeant Josias. Veteran Sergeant Patricus died with his battle brothers (Tactical marines and scouts).
The enemy raiding party was shattered, but we have paid a heavy price among our leaders. Much of our senior leadership (Jacobus, Caedfel, Josias, Barnabas, etc) are now on board the Falchion, undergoing intensive care treatments by our Sanguiniary Priests. Others (Arturus, Hieronimus, etc) are now with the Emperor. Sanguiniary High Priest Lucas and Veteran Sergeant Benedictus are now immediate battlefield commanders, while I will be fulfilling the administrative role Brother-Chaplain Caedfel played. Captain Brutus is just about recovered from his injuries, though he is now almost as much machine as Marine. He is eager to resume combat operations. He will get his chance, as we continue to support Operation Rolling Thunder. Even as I finish dictating this message, reports are coming in from the various battlezones encompassing the operation. I pray that the Emperor has granted us success.
The Emperor Protects,
((1250 point CoD match at our hobby store. My first time even SEEING Dark Eldar, let alone playing them (believe it or not, after the match other players were interrogating me, because they too had never met someone who played the DE). Death Company did the most damage, allowing my tac squads to seize objectives and basically turtle the rest of the game. The leader (drachon or archon, whichever was the cheaper, I can't recall what he called it) and its incubi bodyguards were EVIL!!!! That initiative, high strength and power weapon hits were just mean. Fortunately, I whittled them down enough they couldn't hold a building, and avoided them the last turn of the game. Had more of his units been able to charge me first instead of the DC whacking them first...might have been a different story. Even so, a successful match for the Blood Angels. I do wonder how it would've gone in different terrain facing a bunch of his close combat nastiness mounted in Raiders zipping towards me and charging in the first or second turn. I was also impressed by some of the wargear and "drug" options on the wyches...I won't state stats as that's illegal, but the one combination would essentially allow the wyche "veteran sergeant" (succubus?) to strike anything, even a giant critter like a bloodthirster or carnifex, first, wound it half the time, and not allow a normal save. Yikes!!!))
"Wife! You are abusing that Leman Russ model!"
What You faced was a Dracon with an Incubi Bodyguard.
They literally tear through marines and terminators- And they are the only thing in our army with a decent save out of combat!
Agonisers, Wyches and Combat drugs are indeed lethal.
The amount of gribbly things that have either attacked first, and done nothing (ie broodlords) due to the invulnerable saves and nasty wych weapons the wyches have, or the huge gribbly things which have simply quietly died, before attacking, (Carnifex's, and other tyrannids in general) is quite amazing!
It's a pity the DE are such a rare army for most gamers to face, as it really is a different force, and one that does require a large degree of skill to wield.
But, you did an admirable job playing my bretheren, and if we weren't currently fighting a campaign against each other, I'd even congratulate you!
Well done, and well written.
(I did it anyway >.<)
minimalism is the key.
Again a good batle report. I myself fought Eldar for the first time. He was able to put a hurting on some of my units. I would think that the Dark Eldar and Eldar should be a respected foe.
Why use science and education when ignorance and superstition will work just as well.
wow, that report was simplly amazing!
i have fought the dark eldar only once, and was surprised to see how easily the lord and his retinue were able to hack through my 3+ armour save rough riders with out even letting me get an attack in (i charged with hunting lances too!). that In. 6~7? really hurts...
again, great report.
