Terrain: None we both agreed on no terrain
(goin by my point of view)
Tyranid Deployement: i decided to setup with all my big bugs making a wall to shield my precious genestealers, ok on my right i had set up my warriors in a line and behind them 1 squad of genestealers, left of the warriors i set up my hive tyrant and the guard in a line and behind them another squad of genestealers and the flying tyrant left of them the 3 carnifexs were lined up shielding the genestealers behind them and i placed them all in the middle of my deployment so it looked like a tortiouse formation.
Chaos Deployment: on the right he had his havocs to the left of them the possessed squad and left of them a large squad of 20 chaos marines left of them the 3 obliterators left of them the terminators and the lord and then left of them the last 20 man squad and the defiler behind them.
Turn 1 Tyranids
Movement: Everything surged foward trying not to break the line no fleeting this turn i wanted to keep behind the big creatures.
Shooting: The hive tyrant with the venon cannon tried a shot at the defiler but was out of range by 2 inches (dam that thing sitting in the corner)
and that was all.
Turn 1 Chaos
Movement: Possessed move foward 6 everything remains still.
Shooting: Havoc squad opens fire on the warriors squad killing 2 then the chaos marines squad left of the havocs added there fire power killing another the defiler lands a shell on the genestealers behind the warriors killing 3 the oblits shoot the dakka fex and inflict 1 wound all other shooting was inaffective against the hard carapace of the carnifexs.
Turn 2 Tyranids:
Movement: The warriors run towards the possessed the genestealers behind them follow the guarded hive tyrant moves foward towards the large chaos squad the flying tyrant follows moving to the guarded tyrants left blocking line of sight of half the chaos army and i moved the carnifexs foward just to the left a little and using one of the big carnifex to shield the flying tyrants left so the only thing that could shoot it was the obliterators and the genestealers moved to keep up with the tyrants.
Shooting: Fleeting the genestealers behind the guarded tyrant fleet 6' which brang them with in charge range of the large chaos squad the other 2 squads of genestealers got 1' fleet rolls, the dakka fex and the other 2 fexs fire into the obliterators and inflicted 20 wounds!! and did nothing after saves! then i poored the devil tyrants shots into them as well and another 8 wounds on that and still no deaths so i shot 3 venom cannon shots into the obliterators and managed to kill 1 due to him rolling double one for the armour saves finnaly!.
Assault: The genestealers in the middle charged the large chaos squad and killed 3 due to kill zone rules and no loss due to everyone being killed in base i mobbed in, the warriors assaulted the possessed and killed a healthy 4 possessed and lost one warriors they all stood there ground.
Turn 2: Chaos
Movement: The free squad of chaos marines moved foward to get within rapid fire range of the heavy carnifex.
Shooting: The havocs shot the genestealers on the right and killed another 5, the obliterators shot at the dakka fex again and caused another 2 wounds the terminators shot at the same fex but to no avail the defiler shot at the guarded tyrant it scattered a little just enough to clip 2 genestealers and killed one of the guards all of the marines on the left rapid fired the heavy fex closest to them and did one wound 40 shots and 1 wound not bad!
Assault: The possessed lost another 3 of there number due to the warriors rending but cut down the last 2 warriors and consolidated foward 3', on a better note the middle genestealer squad ripped apart 11 marines 7 rending on 33 dice woot!.
Turn 3 Tyranids
Movement: The dakka fex and the heavy left fex moved towards the large group of marines on the left as did the left squad of genestealers the flying tyrant moved to within charge range of the obliterators as did the carnifex the guarded tyrant and the lone right genestealer moved towards the remnants of the pssessed squad.
Shooting: The Dakka fex and the heavy left fex shot at the chaos marine squad and killed 6 members the other heavy fex shot at the terminators and managed to down 2 the flying hive tyrant shot at the obliterators and again did nothing.
Assault: The lone genestealer and the guarded tyrant charged forth and cut down the remaining possessed squad and conolidated 6 foward towards the havoc squad the genestealer scored 4 and ran with the tyrant the middle genestealer squad and cut down the remaining chaos marines and moved 3 towards the obliterators the managed to use there demonic powers to save them self from being eaten by the flying tyrant and striking back with powerfists the obliterators manage one wound on the tyrant and i make the 6+ inv save heres where i stuffed up though i forgot to charge the genestealer squad and the 2 fexs into the large squad of marines that actually look really angry at this point in time and i also forgot to charge the heavy carnifex into the terminator squad so some very big mistakes there.
Turn 3 Chaos
Movement: The Terminators moved forward to help out the obliterators.
Shooting: The big chaos marines squad levelled there bolters and tore into the genestealer squad and killing 7 with some lucky armour saves from me and then the defiler shell went straight through the rest of them the havocs smashed another guard dead.
Assault: The terminators charge the hive tyrant the lord being the only model in base with the tyrant challenged it to a dual and whilst he was saying that he was ripped open by the tyrant and the obliterators tore into the beasts uderbelly causing a major 2 wounds.
Turn 4 Tyranids
Movement: The guarded tyrant moved ever closer to the havoc squad aswell as the lone genestealer the middle brood of genestealers moved into charge range of the terminators same with the heavy fex in the middle.
Shooting: The 2 fexs on the left ripped into the squad of marines again killed another 4 due to some good rolling of armour saves the guarded tyrant shot 2 dead havocs.
Assault: The guarded tyrant and the lone genestealer charged and killed the whole havoc squad, the genestealers charge the terminators with the help of the heavy fex and wipe them out and the tyrant finnaly kills the 2 obliterators due to implant attack and the 2 fexs on the left charge in to the big squad and kill another 4 and this is where my opponent called the game.
Solid Victory To The Great Devourer
Thanks Guys For Viewing And Reading This Battle Report
good job, although i can see why you won. 2 fex's and 2 tyrants is certainly a challange with a chaos list like that. kudos

The above poster should keep in mind that there was absolutely no terrain on this map, which gave the shooty chaos army a huge advantage.
The original poster must have quite a bit of testicular fortitude to fight a shooty army with no terrain, lol.
One thing caught my eye, though.
so i shot 3 venom cannon shots into the obliterators and managed to kill 1 due to him rolling double one for the armour saves finnaly!.
What was the strength of the venom cannon shots? Your Hive Tyrand should have had strength 8 and Obliterators count as toughness 4 for the purpose of instant death. Double 1s means TWO dead Obliterators.
"Tell me what you cherish most. Give me the pleasure of taking it away." Sephiroth, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
I am pretty sure obliterators are a flat toughness 5.
"...a swarm of mechanised locusts sweeping over the land, stripping it bare of resources, bringing death and destruction to anything that stands in its path. Emperor preserve us against the predations of these so-called Orkish cults of speed!" - Cardinal Nomura at the Conclave of Hessen
lol yes i forgot i only realised when i was writing the battle report up, wouldnt have made the outcome any different anyways thanks for noticing though lol, and bruiser they are toughness 5 but chapter approved states they are toughness 4 when it comes to instant death i personally think thats unfair at 70pts a model.
but thanks guys on reading the report, i just had another battle 3700 nids vs nids battle but that was too long and didnt have time to write anything down and on sunday im having a 7000 pts nids vs space marines and templar game, i (might) be able to post that one lol
Oblits are tough 4 with demonic resilience to make them 5, but still counts as T4 for insta-kill... despite how most like to play it. Also, one quick note about the Chaos lord: Dread Axe is a gift of the gods / Daemon weapon, and as such cannot be master crafted.
I would disagree about the lack of cover being of sole benifit to the chaos player.
I play both Nids and Chaos and the best way for chaos to level the CC playing field is to stick to cover as most nid players don't invest in flesh hooks (I don't myself). So the chaos player had the advantage of shooting, but lost the advantage of some key first strikes in CC. I bet the warrior vs possesed fight would have gone very differentaly if the possessed had been in cover.
Both lists are OK starter lists, but could use help, expecialy the Chaos one. I'm sure he could get some advice on his list if he posted it in the chaos forum.
You have an interesting list. The three carnifexes equipped with devourers make you very effective against infantry and light armor. You might have a problem against some forces that use heavier tanks with AV 13 or 14. The ability to, at the very least, shake a heavier tank that is 36" away is pretty important to my list. Hammerheads could especially frustrate you.
The 40 bolter shots only causing one wound to a carnifex that has a 2+ save is to be expected. In fact, by the odds, for space marines to get a 100% chance of causing a wound with bolters you need nearly 60 shots. The toughness and save on the carnifex (one with a 2+ save) makes them incredibly hard to bring down with small arms fire. Your bonded exoskeleton spells even more trouble for IG.
Also same deal with the two carnifexes killing four marines with their shooting. A carnifex (with ES) shooting two sets of twin-linked devourers at a space marine squad can expect to kill two marines.
Your flying tyrant had speed on the obliterators, but all those powerfist attacks back are scary. One big reason I take lash whip on my flying tyrant is to greatly reduce the pain if I get mixed up in a melee with terminators or such.
You always can get weird results with chance and dice. Sometimes you are going to roll a bunch of 1s or stuff like that.
Oh, and that defiler would have been terrifying to me if I was playing your army. Genestealers die in droves when battle cannons start hitting them. That is one of the reasons I like warriors so much. The way I equip either Tyranid, it means every warriors equals the cost of one genestealer. However, if three warriors take a battle cannon hit you usually have two left (one wounded). Six genestealers getting hit is ugly. Battle cannons are also a good way to hammer at a walking tyrant with guard.
The points cost for your flying tyrant looks strange. Also, you did not list wings for him. It is the one with warp blast, correct?
Your opponent made a couple of mistakes. One was trying to use bolter fire to take down a carnifex. Lascannons, plasma, melta, and powerfists are all the best ways to do so. Also power weapons, but only if you can get the strength up enough. Against your bonded carapace carnifexes he would have been wanting a S 6 set of lighting claws or something. His possessed with their rending would have been a fair choice too. Your genestealers and warriors were where his bolter fire should have been directed; the terminators' shooting too.
His obliterators should have been hanging back, behind screening troops, and shooting your big monsters with lascannons the whole time. Once you got close they could change to plasma or maybe melta and then charge with powerfists.
That the genestealers are fleet helps, but your opponent appears to have always attacked your rock with scissors, or your paper with his rock. He consistently fought you in the perfectly wrong manner and place.
I always find it hard to comment on batreps without maps or pictures, because it prevents me from seeing placement and movement.

Do Obliterators count as having Daemonic Resilience?Originally Posted by moob
According to my codex (keep in mind, it is the first printing, so they may have added it in the 2nd) they only count as having Daemonic Armour and Daemonic Aura...
Please correct me (and my codex) if I'm mistaken.
The third printing codex has them 4(5) with resilience.
