Note: All directions from the eldar player’s point of view.
A trench on each player’s side of the board, forest to the left side, a power generator to the right and some rubble in the middle.
We rolled on the mission chart and got cleanse, my first ever cleanse mission, that’s odd…
Dark reapers set up in the left side of the trench whilst the rangers infiltrate into the right side. Since I was forced into a bad table quarter my falcons had nothing to hide behind and were forced to deploy in the back left corner. Banshees and Raven in Epsilon and dragons in Echo. Avatar deploys forwards, close to the center, scorpions infiltrate into the forest out of sight.
His chaos marines scattered out through his entire quarter, just in front of the trench. Dreadnought hid behind the power generator. Now he had the tough decision of deep-striking his obliterators to get a table quarter or leave them on the table to try and kill the falcons before they could move. He chose deep-strike.
I won the roll for 1st turn thankfully, my falcons were safe.
The war for Medusa V had pit Raven against enemies of all kinds, most he had never fought in his life. At last he was to battle the great enemy for the first time, Nepenthe had warned him of the strength of chaos but he was confident nonetheless.
Echo goes full pelt towards the dreadnought whilst Epsilon slows up a bit and opens fire on Alpha squad, killing 2 of them. Avatar advances toward board center. Due to crappy difficult terrain rolls the scorpions managed a whole 2”! dark reapers manage to kill 2 alphas whilst the rangers do nothing.
The raven soared through the skies crying with pride as it surveyed its new domain. All of a sudden two shadows descended over his territory and did battle. One he recognized as a friend, the hidden fighter, the other was the hated one, the raven screeched and swooped down to the attack, intent on helping his friend to defeat the evil shadows.
Raven awoke from this vision and quickly informed Nephenthe. It seemed they had received their new orders from Elarique, the hidden friend. They were to attack the dark shadow, the dark gods of chaos.
Raven ordered his falcons to attack. Flying at massive speeds and under supporting fire he entered the battle. The scorpions would soon spring their trap and the avatar would be finished summoning.
Dreadnought works itself into a fire frenzy and thanks to Echo’s massive move he can now see it with his twin lascannon. Gotta love holo-field though so he only manages to stun it. All the chaos marines advance in a bloodthirsty wave. Jet considers whether he wants to use his flight to charge the scorpions alone. Eventually he decides against it. Alpha manages to shoot up 2 scorpions with their bolt pistols.
Jet cursed the rampaging dreadnought and fought to keep it down. He would kill the bastard that let it lose. Jet soon realised the reason for the dreadnoughts massive anger and ducked as a hail of “freem” came from the lascannons and pummelled an alien vehicle. Ordering his troops to attack Jet advanced upon the enemy.
Epsilon advances another 12” with the avatar slowly walking up behind. Scorpions get lucky on difficult terrain and manage to assault Lord Jet but not before shooting a wound off him first! Rangers snipe off 1 member of Alpha, reapers kill 4 Beta’s, Epsilon kills off the remnants of Alpha. 3 scorpions die in assault but Jet dies horribly to the power fist, they then consolidate into his lieutenant.
Raven ordered the destruction of the closest enemy squad and his army complied almost instantly, hails of plasma fire melted the enemy before they could even react. There, the scorpions were beginning their assault and the chaos lord was yet to react, Raven smiled with the satisfaction of a trap working perfectly.
Lahvra, newly appointed exarch of the striking scorpions after her predecessor died at the hands of the necrontyr led the assault upon the tainted forces. Taking the enemy by surprise the enemy lord was the first to react, charging in blindly. Several of the scorpions sacrificed themselves to slow his charge until Lahvra could strike. His power fist punching straight through the lord’s vitals, the blood seemed to do nothing but empower the lord further. With a massive surge of daemonic strength the Lord Jet broke his daemon weapon in two, unleashing the horror within.
As soon as Jet died his entire army blood frenzied, including the dread, freaky…
Beta and Delta frenzy into the scorpions (although now that I think of some of those might have been forced to charge Echo) and butcher the lot of them before the scorpions could inflict a single casualty. Since everything frenzied and the obliterators didn’t arrive the turn was over fairly quickly.
The Blood Daemon emerged to the roars of battle and the stench of blood. With his arrival the insane army was filled with visages of bloody atrocities and the fury of khorne. Entering a frenzy the berserkers charged into Jet’s murderers. Aided by the Blood Daemon nothing remained of the aspect warriors but a bloody mess. Satisified with the blood spilt the daemon returned to the warp.
Raven and his banshee squad disembark and prepare to assault the marines alongside the avatar. Epsilon continues its 12” flight and Echo slows down to 12” to get behind the dreadnought. Reapers kill 1 delta, Rangers kill 1 beta, the 2 falcons kill a few marines, not many left now but enough for the charge. Banshees kill 1 delta on the charge. The avatar kills the remaining member of Beta and consolidates into corn.
Raven paused for a moment to honour the striking scorpions. However their task had been accomplished and now it was up to him to finish the battle. Emerging from the safety of his falcon Raven ordered the army into to charge, inspired by the bloody handed god Raven could not tell whether his warriors or the chaos berserkers were the more frenzied.
The obliterators arrive in the nick of time! They deep-strike into my deployment zone and open fire on Epsilon with their lascannons managing to stun it. The dreadnought doesn’t even phase Echo with his lascannon but charges into it taking out its pulse laser. Raven and the howling banshees massacre the rest of delta squad and consolidate into corn to help the avatar. The avatar manages to wound corn and receives a wound in return.
The berserkers were slowly calming down now, becoming more aware of the situation around them. Rallying around the remaining officer they prepared to meet the charge. Unused to such a situation they flailed clumsily, trying desperately to hit the elite warriors of the swordwind but inevitably defeated.
The obliterator brothers emerged from the warp to find an almost empty battle field. True in their worship of chaos however they screamed defiance at the aliens and opened fire.
The fire dragons disembark from Echo and run around to shoot the Dreadnought in the behind. 4 penetrating hits later it’s a wreckage, one of the few times my fire dragons haven’t killed themselves in an explosion. All 5 howling banshees massacre corn but since they consolidated rather than charged so corn got to strike too. My opponent gleefully rolled his 5 attacks getting 5 hits, 5 wounds and 5 banshees dead. Meanwhile my rangers and reapers have been shooting at the last targets on the board, the obliterators. The rangers manage to cause a wound on one and Echo finishes him off.
An explosion wracked the battlefield as the dreadnought died in a titanic boom. Using the distraction to their advantage the eldar forces pressed the attack and broke the enemy forces, coming head on with the enemy lieutenant. A vision flashed before Raven’s eyes and he stopped to ponder it.
And thus did the dark shadow become a fireball of power, and the hidden shadow was consumed by its raw energy.
Raven called to his troops to halt but khaine had inspired them into berserkers. Corn laughed gleefully and thumbed the activation rune on the device in his hand. Protected by his rune armour Raven survived the enormous blast but his troops were not to be so lucky. The ground was littered with eldar bodies; the madman was nowhere to be seen. Raven looked around and saw only the avatar still standing, all that remained of his glorious charge.
The Obliterator is the last thing left on the board and its looking grim for him. He wounds the avatar with an autocannon he suddenly grew out his arm then charges him to protect himself from shooting next turn. The avatar wounds him, he loses combat, and the obliterator dies of no retreat. No survivors for chaos.
Raven inspected the masses of dead eldar, unaware of the battle drawing to a close around him. Only when the avatar had been satisfied and returned to the craftworld did Raven look up to see Nephenthe standing over him.
“All battles have losses young seer, yours was a victory today and Khaine is well pleased.”
Eldar win by 793 victory points, however when you factor in that I controlled all 4 table quarters…victorious slaughter!!!
This is also one of the few games I have ever played where Raven has not died!

Good game, I must sau the Chaos player's list isn't the strongest [Unless of course it's a WE list]. Sounded like a good fight, congrats on the win.

my friend gave up on his chaos in favour of Space Wolves a while ago so his army hasn't really been built to the standard it should be. I.e the obliterators being included forcing the list to be black legion.
Yeah, go ahead and think its a victorious slaughter. 8 points off.
I remember that game... it was entertaining.
... There's no place like 127.0.0.1
That was a really bad Chaos list........
