This is the first time I've done a battle report, so don't kill me if i get anything wrong. As I like the way he sets his out, i'm going to base mine heavily on Lord Links. So, hope you don't mind and cheers Lord link.
Ok.. as it's Death Guard Versus Nid, I've done the story purely from the Death Guard POV. Enjoy:

The Tyranids are attacking from the top, the Death guard from below.
The mission was a seek and destroy, which suited the two sides.
I'll do a blow by blow account, and then i'll do some fluffy story to finish it off

Below.. the fluffy version will follow. The ending is slighty different.. please enjoy
It is said, where death is, Nurgle is strong and on the planet of Estavar 6, death was everywhere.
The imperials had enough problems dealing with the invasion, Lord Ghein mused, but it was the forces of his master that really broke the imperials. In the wrecked hives and demolished cathedrals devoted to the rotting corpse, the only life was xeno life.
Tyranids. The mere thought of them brought fear and loathing to most mortals’ hearts. But Lord Ghein realised, like everything else, they were all doomed to rot and decompose. Ghein chuckled to himself, the sound of his mutated throat echoing through the ruins of the former governmental palace.
A shuffle interrupted his thoughts. He turned and saw Brother Maele.
“Ghein.. it is time.
Such dissent was not normally tolerated in the disciplined ranks of the Death Guard. But Maele spoke with a voice which was not just his own. It was through Maele and the entity that dwelled within him that Ghein received his orders and guidance from their loving grandfather.
Ghein followed the aspiring Champion out of the ruins to battle. Alien or human, good or evil - all would rot.
Ghein padded up behind the last predator of their detachment. It was no longer a tank but a daemonic machine, belching noxious fumes and keen to spread the rot of nature. Gaxor and Drall, two daemons bound in the shell of a dreadnought guarded the flanks. Two of his squads including Maele himself, had infiltrated as far forward as they could.
He paused, and could feel the rumble of something massive approaching. It was to begin…
sure enough, alien shrieks and screams filled the air, there was the distinct clack of chitin plates scuttling through the streets. Beasts poured out from every window and building. Within seconds Maele’s squad were pounced on by the hormagaunts. One battle brother was taken by the stabbing blades, punching through the torso of an alien as he went.
Drall seemed to be perturbed by something nearby. Brother Jesque who’s squad was deployed to oversee the mad dreadnought detected nothing.
Drall moved forward and sure enough his attuned senses had picked up something. A Broodlord and some genestealers rapidly approaching their position. Brother Jesque urges his men on, and the predator also joined the fray of it’s own volition. Shots poured into the genestealers but they were too agile despite laying dormant for days to remain in their position undetected.
Leaving the metallic daemons to do their work, Ghein pressed towards Maele’s squad. He needn’t have worried. Gaxor had sprung into action eager to spill Tyranid ichor. The nurglings who had taken a liking to Gaxor followed in his wake like adoring children.
Maele’s squad began to fight back, and soon the entire brood of hormagaunts were butchered. Their corpses destined to rot, fester and attain true beauty.
Brother Kai’s squad remained on guard or ordered. Brother Kai was an exceptionally talented Aspiring Champion. Ghein would have to make sure that he served Nurgle better lest he fall out of Maele’s favour.
There was a sickening crack and an unholy shrieking noise as Drall’s metal cocoon was burst open. Moments later the dreadnought exploded showering the area with debris. The remnants of the dreadnought were slowly being dissolved by the corrosive blood of a Carnifex which had burst through the ruins.
On the other flank, a tree was sent flying and another Carnifex emerged, launching barrage after barrage of maggots against Gaxor’s putrefied hull. Added to this came a crack of light from an unknown source, yet somehow Gaxor remained unscathed.
Brother Jesque’s squad and Brother Kai’s squad made out hunched figures flitting through the shadows in the ruins. But as dangerous and calculating as these aliens were, the Death Guard knew no fear and represented a threat far more ancient.
Angered by the loss of its daemon kin and the onslaught against it, Gaxor’s pistons whined as it accelerated towards the carnifex, it’s lascannons blowing great chunks of the mighty beast away. There was an palpable crunch as the dreadnought brought it’s crackling power fist to bear on the flesh and chitin of the monster.
Ghein felt another disturbance in the warp. He smiled. Despite the affect these animals had on the normal warp, Nurgle could not be opposed. A great hole opened up in the ground and the foot soldiers of Nurgle dragged themselves into reality, their foul stench disturbing even the genestealers.
Using this to their advantage, Brother Kai and Brother Maele’s squad marched forward and cut down many genestealers before the Plague Bearer’s reached their quarry.
The Chaos Lord was distracted once again when he realised that the Predator had stopped moving. He dashed towards it, hoping there might be something he could do to spur to war machine on to more death and mayhem.
The Plague Bearers were bringing death to the genestealers and they fell one by one. However, even these daemons were hard pressed by these alien entities as claws harder than diamonds ripped their already rotting forms. Perhaps, the alien affect on the warp was more pronounced that he realised, thought Ghein as the plague bearers struggled to maintain their corporeal existence and disappeared.
Brother Kai whispered to Lord Ghein, “My lord. The xenos are strong on the western flank! A millennia ago, it would have been a hearty call, but Kai’s throat and lungs had long since rotted away in devotion to Nurgle.
Ghein turned from the dormant predator and saw countless beasts of all sized burst through the hole the other carnifex had made.
He heard shots bounce off the hull of the predator and saw some large oval objects float down from the diseased sky, they came near the predator but nothing happened. Ghein decided that he would support his foot soldier in Brother Jesque’s squad – just as Mortarion would have done.
Enraged by the loss of the plague bearers, Gaxor picked up the carnifex and tore off it’s head. Unsatisfied, he turned his efforts to the Genestealers firing all weapons at the rate of a madman. When the smoke cleared not even the dead bodies remained. On the other flank, the brood lord and his remaining genestealers burst through into the alley way. They were met by a hail of bolter fire and it was only through unholy agility that the broodlord survived unscathed, his minions’ internal organs daubing the ruins.
A winged corpse hit the floor. Ghein was confused… Then another winged corpse. Then another... The corpses were decomposing by the time they hit the floor. Glancing upward, he realised the cause of the predator’s apparent inactivity. Ghein had seen the aliens use wing beasts for surprise attacks before, but the predator had filled the air with Nurgle’s joyous blessings. Evidently these beasts, who could even survive the harsh vacuum of space, could not stand to Nurgle’s rot.
The Hive mind flexed it’s mental whip, and instantly, as one, the beasts fired and attacked the predator. Acid and all manner of matter slammed into the predator, but the hull remained strong. Then, another crack of light slammed the predator. A few moments later, the barrel of the predator’s auto cannon fell to the ground near Ghein’s feet.
Without respite, a horde of Termagaunts poured in through the alley where the brood lord had entered. They let lose with their disgusting weaponry and a plague marine fell. Before they could respond, the Brood lord charged the squad. It was a whirlwind of blades and claws, two more of Brother Jesque’s marine fell in the assault. Yet, although the alien had superior reflexes and strength to even a marine, brother Jesque had a millennia of experience. The berserk broodlord was shocked at a powerfist flying to its torso, smashing it’s triple rib cage like it were made from twigs. But it was the plague marines who were finally shocked as the broodlord simply got up despite its horrendous injuries and carried on its attack.
The Brood lord smashed two more plague marine beyond recognition and brother Jesque was forced to admire its brutal strength. Yet it still couldn’t match up to the experience of the chosen of Nurgle. Jesque feigned with his powerfist. A quick learner, the brood lord jumped back - not eager to take another blow like the previous one. The brood lord looked confused and then pained as it saw a rusty filth encrusted blade protruding through its chest. Jesque’s squad member kicked the brood lord off his blade. Jesque pondered briefly to himself how many of the false emperor’s dogs they had silenced in this manner…
Ghein, seeing the brood lord falling, dashed forward to stem the influx of termagaunts into the alley. They jumped all over him, scratching, biting, Ghein laughed to himself as he felt no pain from the attacks. There was a metallic ring and half a dozen gaunts slumped to the floor cleft in twin. Ghein laughed openly and readied his man reaper for another blow…
The predator, realising its work spreading the rot to the skies had been done, powered back up, its las cannons catching the remaining carnifex by surprise and hitting it square in the gut.
The carnifex screamed in retaliation firing it’s bio cannons into the predator destroying a sponson housed lascannon and yet, the predator lived on. The Carnifex continued its onslaught using its powerful limbs to thrash the predator. From behind the trees another monstrosity – the red terror reared its ugly head and pounced at the rear of the predator. The Carnifex and the Red Terror mauled and fought over the carcass of the predator like jackals over a piece of carrion.
As the Dreadnought Gaxor, Maele’s squad and the nurglings came to support from the Eastern flank, Brother Kai’s squad came under heavy fire from yet more Tyranid Warriors emerging from across the road – one of his squad falling.
Another bright flash of light lanced into Gaxor’s side but it remained firm. This time, Gaxor identified the source - It was zoanthropes who had been plaguing him and crippled the predator.
Enraged, Gaxor smashed the bunker the plague marines were hiding in and rampaged towards the floating alien. Smashing into its warp field repeatedly with it’s crackling armoured fist. The zoanthrope felt the lash of the hive mind tighten as it strengthened the warp shield which protected its delicate cerebrum from Gaxor’s blades and spikes. Gaxor howled and crooned like an insane person.
Maele felt the entity within him stirring and urged his battle brother to attack. They sprinted forwards laying down a withering wall of fire, Tyranid Warriors falling to the explosive rounds. Another one was pulled down by the swarm of nurglings which pressed on the attack, now finding the enraged antics of Gaxor boring.
Kai, saw the chance to slay one of the beasts who had destroyed the predator and vaulted over the wall with his marines. They fired into the Red Terror, the searing heat of the melta gun causing the monster to spin around in obvious pain. In a testament to their fearlessness, Kai signalled to his men and they assaulted the Red Terror, silent and stoic.
Having finished with the wreckage of the predator, the Carnifex smashed through the trees and laid fire on the first thing it saw – Maele’s squad. A vast net of sinew and boned spread towards them, effortlessly they dodged, but one marine was trapped forever. Without warning, the rippers moved in on the plague marines snapping viciously at their legs and exposed organs. Maele felt the entity within himself grow bored and lose interest... the battle was coming to an end. Almost in an act of frustration Maele brought his sword to the ground filling the air with Nurgle’s power and instantaneously decomposing almost all of the rippers. The rest of the rippers was crushed and shattered as Gaxor came running looking for his nurglings having turned the zoanthrope into nothing more than a red mark on the wall.
Kai was the only on left from his squad as he faced the red terror. But he too felt the power of Nurgle flow through him with all the death and putrefaction around them. The Red Terror, oblivious to such matters reacted to the lash of the hive mind and launched itself at Kai. The Aspiring simply held up his powerfist, and watched at the Red Terror decompose before him before it could reach him.
By this time, Ghein, supported by Brother Jesque and his remaining squad member had slaughtered the gaunts and were slick with their foul ichor. The Tyranid warriors clawed their way through many nurglings, but in the end fell into a sea of babbling, giggling and defecating from which they did not surface.
The remaining carnifex found itself suddenly cut off from the rest of the hive mind. No voices no orders. It paused, confused. Ghein slung his death dealing scythe and strode up to the monstrosity. He felt disgusted that such a mighty beast should look so pathetic and lost. He saw the senselessness in life and thanked his god Nurgle that he had already moved off the mortal coil and didn’t have to share his life which such pathetic wretches. Ghein turned in disgust and walked away, back towards the carnifex.
The carnifex soon returned to its natural instincts and sought to crush everything in sight. It saw Ghein and jumped on the Chaos Lord.
But the carnifex never left the ground.
Kai’s powerfist was lodged firmly inside the Carnifex’s body cavity. In one sharp movement, Kai ripped his fist out with an outward motion. The Carnifex’s internal organs spilled out onto the ground, decaying instantly when they came into contact with the plague marine. The remains of the carnifex slumped onto the floor. Kai followed Ghein.
Ghein continued walking away without breaking step and smiled to himself once more. All would rot - including himself. It was just a matter of time.
Good Game Karmoon.
A tip for you though is to read other peoples battle reports 1st. You DON'T need to put that kind of effort into a report! The only person crazy enough to do that is Robizzle.
Good to see you beat him, nids are normally horrified by T5 true grit but his was a rending/monstrous list of doom.
Excellent battle report, not that I knew what was going on I was just impressed by all the explosions representing hormagaunts.
Check out my Codex: Farmyard Animals here!
If anyone wants any kind of help writing fluff for any kind of GW army just ask.
Nice work, a good diagramatical system, and pleasing fluff write up.
Keep it up.
We'll not see any more Robizzle reports though.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
Thanks for your input guys. I'll try to limit it next time
It's nice to have some visual representation though.
Next time i might just stick with troop choice 1s and 2s etc
I found it really fun to do actually though
