Necrons v Orks 1500pts
Mission: Secure and Control (4 Counters)
Necrons: This is my all takers list normaly it has 1 x 15 Warriors and 2 x 10 Warriors.
Lord - VoD, Res Orb, SoL
3 x 10 Warriors
2 x 3 Destroyers
2 x 2 Heavy Destroyers
2 Tomb Spyders
I left 5 Warriors at home so im actually playing with 1410 points.
Orks: 144 Models in total!!!
so I don't know exactly what he had but the following
2 x 30 Gretchen + Slaver
3 Killa Kans with Rokits
1 Dreadnought with Rokits
25 Shoota Boyz with 2 Rokits and 1 Big Shoota, Nob with Power Klaw
2 x 25 Slugga Boyz with 3 Rokits, Nob with Power Klaw
Big Mek with KFF and 3 mekboyz
What a scary sight:
I set up all 30 warriors and my lord in the middle of the table two units in ruins one not.
He sets up all but the Killa Kans and Dreadnaught on the table!!!!
25 Shoota Boyz on my left flank, 30 gretchin in front on 25 Slugga Boyz and the Big Mek and his mekboyz in the centre, 30 Gretchen, 25 Slugga Boyz and the Warboss on my right Flank.
140 to 30 im already starting to panic.
We roll for Dusk or Dawn and get Dusk, even better now if I need to shoot them on the last turn it could get ugly.
He wins the toss and decides to let me go first.
Necron Turn 1:
I do nothing and pass the turn back.
Im not going to advance and with all my best troops off the table im not going to push my luck.
My plan is to kill as much as I can and capture and objectives late in the game.
Ork Turn 1:
Here they come:
The green tide advances 6" up the table the makes a few tests for his rokit boys for concealment but never makes the range (it was always going to be a close 24" anyway).
Necron Turn 2:
The only thing to turn up is 1 unit of Heavy Destroyers
I put them to the left of my units in the centre of the table
Not the most useful unit against a hoard and at this stage I did not know he had Kans and a Dreadnaught.
2 x Warrior Squads and the Heavy Destroyers fire into the centre unit of Gretchen as I think they are the only things in range.
Killing lots and they fail their leadership test and start running.
Ork Turn 2:
Gretchen Rally at the beginning of the turn
Orks Advance again, what do you expect really.
They take down 1 Necron Warrior in shooting.
Necron Turn 3:
Warrior fails his WBB
Tomb Spyders 1 unit of Normal Destroyers turn up.
I split the Tomb Spyders up and put 1 on my three warriors flanks. The normal Destroyers go to my right flank.
2 warrior squads plus the Heavy Destroyers fire into the Centre unit of Sluga boyz they auto pass their test as there is more than 12 left.
3 Destroyers open up and the Warboss's unit of Boyz on the right, killing as few boyz and some Gretchen
Ork Turn 3:
Kans and Dreadnought Turn up:
He puts them in the centre as it is copping most of the fire.
He hesitates with his centre unit of Boyz but advances with everything else.
A few more shots go into warrior squads and I think he knocks another down
Kans and Dreadnaught attempt to fire but are out of range.
Necron Turn 4:
The Warrior that was knocked down fails his WBB, I think I need to change the batteries.
The last unit of Heavy Destroyers and the last unit of Destroyers turn up and I place them with their brother units.
3 Warrior squads open up on the Boyz in the Centre taking then below 12 but they make their test.
Both Heavy Destroyers squads fire on the Kanz, armour plates save one (damn 6+ save) the KFF down grades a penetrating hit to a glancing hit but I roll a 6 anyway .... boom.
Both Destroyer Squads fire on Warboss units killing lots of Boyz and the Gretchen screen but there are still so many boyz left.
Ork Turn 4:
The Green tide keeps rolling on and now he is sitting on all the objectives and im now really worried
If he sits there I don't think I can kill enough to take any objectives back.
The only thing in my favour is I have not lost many men but they are getting very close.
Shooting knocks over 2 more warriors and a Heavy Destroyer and a normal destroyer
Necron Turn 5:
One Warrior makes his WBB, finally something stands back up!!!
One Warrior squad and the Heavy Destroyers fire into the Shoota Boyz on the left. They are sitting on the objective and are close enough to assault next turn if he wants to. Takes the Squad to about 10 but they pass their test.
I had moved the Tomb Spyder up to cover the Heavy Destroyers from Assault.
The two warrior squads fire into the boyz in the middle taking them to about 8 they also pass.
The 2 Destroyers squads fire into the Warboss's squad killing the Boyz and there living shield. Still so many left <sigh>
Ork Turn 5:
The Shoota Boyz on my left move up and shoot at the Spyder and cause a wound, they assault into the Spyder and a unit of Warriors
The Slugga Boyz, Gretchen, Kans, Dreadnought and Big Mek all advance through the centre
The Warboss and his Slugga Boyz advance, the Gretchen attempt to fire on a unit of warriors but only a few are in range and fail to cause a wound.
He attempts to assault with the Gretchen into a unit of warriors needing a 6 on his difficult terrain test and rolls a 5, saved.
The Shoota boyz nob kills the Tomb Spyder and a few warriors fall over I loose the combat and make my leadership test.
Necron Turn 6:
Im in trouble, He has 3 objectives I have none, he is already in assault with one unit and the warboss and Gretchen are close enough to assault a second unit.
Things look very grim and while I don't think ill phase out im going to loose on VP at the moment. Worse than that Night Fight rules are now in play and random game length could spell my doom.
Lord VoD the unit of Warriors out of combat to an area I think I will be clear however the scatter send me closer to the the centre unit of boyz and Gretchen.
The Heavy Destroyers move onto the objective vacated by the Shoota Boyz, The Normal destroyers retreat out of assault range, the second Tomb Spyer moves up to assault the Gretchen in front of the Warboss im hoping to force the Warboss and his boyz to assault the Spyder or make him move so far out of his way that he cannot reach my warriors.
The Lord and the Warriors rapid fire the Gretchen into the next life
The 2 Warrior squads and the 3 heavy destroyers left shoot the Shoota Boyz who are wondering where the people they where fighting went to.
After the smoke clears there is only the Nob and a Rokit boy left.
The Destroyers shoot the Warbosses boyz again and the living screen still so many left
The Spyder assaults the Gretchen causing a few wounds but they make there leadership test.
Ork Turn 6:
Shoota Boyz nob assaults 1 warrior squad, the warboss boyz assault the second warrior squad but only just getting like 2 models in base to base.
The centre Boyz assault my lords warrior unit.
The Tomb Spyder dies to the slavers powerfist, and the Lords unit looses 3 models, the warriors take out the Boy with the rokit launchers but the nob kills 4 warriors. The warriors win the combat against the warbosses boyz but they pass their test.
To do all this he has moved off two objectives.
Roll for extra turn............ game ends:
705 v 485 = Solid victory for the Necrons
Orks should have won, if he kept the objectives in mind he would have scored and extra 750pts
If he got the extra turn he would have broke my three warrior squads (270pts) but I would have grabbed 2 objectives (750pts) so I think the extra turn would not have helped him. Lesson always keep the mission objectives in mind. If he was not so determined to get into hand to hand he would have won turning a solid loss into a crushing victory.

Good report and good win, I sometimes have the 'honour' of playing against a 90 Ork all KFF'ed horde at 1500 and shifting them from objectives is insanely hard.
I would be less worried of the Grots if I were you, anything in your army will go through them and if you manage to get the Slaver they're a walkover. 10 Necron Warriors rapid firing will claim about 12 and you only need to kill 16 to stop them scoring.
Always remember that you don't need to wipe them out, if there're 14 Orks out of 30 on an objective, ignore them. You reduced one squad almost to dust, firing on other squads could have been more productive.
Every time you read this sig: a fairie dies!
Great report. i would invest in a monlith
Great battle. Sounded exciting
not sure about the tomb spiders. have you considered immortals?
Thanks for the great comments.
Silver Wings:- I only shot at the grots when i thought they where the only thing in range.
Bladeweaver:- I own a monlith but im trying this list out because in AUS the tourneys have a composition scoring and i find i score much higher without the lith.
Karmoon:- I also own 14 Immortals but with this list i have far less trouble with Deathwing and MEQ because the Heavy Destroyers and Tomb Spyders cut them up. The TS also have great synergy with the 2 x 3 Destroyers and 2 x 2 Heavy Destroyers.
good job on the win anbd i am surprised not to see a monolith i think your the first person i have seen who doesn't break out the monolith.(trust me on this i have played a kid at 1000 pt who used a lith and a nightbringer)
That’s the main reason I do not want to use the monolith. Everyone uses one normally and I wanted to prove that they can be competitive without it.
The resent thread saying that Necron Heavy Support was useless made me want to prove them wrong. They are not useless it’s just that they require allot of thought to use effectively.
In this game the Heavy Destroyers where not ideal and the Tomb Spyders where thrown away to protect other units.
50% of what I play is MEQ normally and this is where these units really shine, Heavy Destroyers wreck Terminators and are just as good as normal destroyers against standard marines.
Heavy Spyders are great counter assault units, the look on a resent blood angles player when I did not remove my warrior squad from combat and charged in the Tomb Spyders was priceless. It was even better when he was outnumbered 4:1 and failed his saves to be wiped out. Sure I got a little lucky to take out a Death Company like that but ill bet you he will think twice when he sees the Tomb Spyders again!!!
Nice to see someone using the Tomb spyders to good effect.
Looks like you've put some thought into it and got experience.
I hope you continue to crush your foes!
