I didn't have digital camera handy so there aren't any photo's for you to oogle. However I did make some crudely scaled MSPaint pictures to give you a better idea as to what's happening.
Each team has a 15" deployment zone though no models may come within 24" of an enemy model.
This is mine
My ally's army
The enemy, scary enemy as we're playing nightfight.
They were painted as Blood Angels, but were being used as Vanilla Marines. We'll refer to them as the forces of Chaos for conviences sake.
The Dark grey parts are sixe three rocky outcrops, thus they're too big to shoot over. The Lighter pieces are small enough for infantry to fire over. The board itself is 6'x4'.
The Berserkers deployed on the right flank while the Tactical Squad with the powerfist took the centre of the board.
To confound the Chaos forces, the Imperials deployed in a Refused flank. The platoon covered the central firing line while the Chimera prepared to take the far right. The Tactical Squad deployed near the rocky outcrop to push any infiltrators back.
The Tactical Squad and Rhino deployed to cover the second unit of Berserkers, hoping to destroy the Chimera with a well placed rocket if it dare show itself.
With the forces of Chaos out of units to deploy, the Space Marines placed the remainder of their men. The Rhino and Meltagun squad taking up their position near the Chimera while the Captain joined the Imperial Lieutenant in hiding behind a nice big rock. The last Tactical squad joined ranks with the platoon.
With another good set of dice Chaos won the right to infiltrate first. The scouts infiltrated behind a large set of rocks, hoping to skulk around them and plow into the imperial lines.
The Hardened Veterans scaled the rock outcrop and prepared to hose down some MEQs with a lot of plasma fire.
Finally the dice went in our favour and we took the first turn gleefully, and then realised we were going to do bugger all damage because of Night Fight rules. The Chimera fired it's engines and rolled into position. Hoping to destroy the Rhino and give the Veterans a clear shot at the Berserkers it opened fire, only mananging to snipe the Hunter Killer Missile from the Vehicles' roof. Denied of their target, the Veterans settled with killing four marines from the tactical squad.
THe scouts sneaked forwards behind a second rock outcrop while the Beserkers who we all assumed were out of the game went nuts and raged forwards a mighty 12 inches. Elsewhere, the Rhino dashed forward and popped smoke, providing a steel wall for the other unit of Berserkers, who decided their friends on the otherside of the board were already angry enough for everybody. The tactical squad tried their luck against the Chimera but the Krak Rocket was stopped by the Chimera's thick hide. The Tacitcal squad in the centre decided they were no use to anybody where thy were and moved forwards, hoping to follow in the scouts' footsteps.
The tactical squad with the meltagun and their Rhino again ran forwards to intercept any enemies that managed to close in. While the platoon, hearing the crazed roars of the Beserkers, decided it was a prudent move to fall back further into the corner. The Marines on the other hand, heroically surged forwards to lay a rapid fire smack down on the scouts. All that is except the Captain, who decided he didn't want to be on the recieving end of a Khornate Chainaxe and hung around with the Guardsmen. In the Shooting Phase the Veterans and the Chimera combined their firepower to obliterate 5 of the Khorne Berserkers, almost completely alleviating our fears for the Left Flank. The Rhino tried to add to the body pile, but showed us why a lone Storm Bolter does not qualify as "Fearsome Firepower" despite what SMurf fluff may say. The Tactical Squads on the right proceeded to hand out a smack down on the scouts with all the power of wet fish slap, Despite having 2 Plasmagun and 14 Bolter shots at their disposal they killed a mere three scouts (Damn Plasmagun rolled snake eyes to wound!). The Scouts held firm, looked like they were getting their assault after all.
Again all the Chaos forces raced forwards, apart from the tactical squad who tried to shoot the Chimera, but failed to see it in the gloom. The Beserkers on the Right Flank raged again, moving 11". In two turns the crazy men in red had raced 23" inches, effectively putting them back in the game. The Scouts raced forwards to assault the tactical squad and got beaten up and killed for their troubles. The tactical Marines consolidated backwards, realising that they were waaay too close to the Berserkers. The Berserkers on the left did far better this time, their Rage carrying them all the way into the Imperial Rhino. The Aspiring Champion's power fist tore the tracks and storm bolter off the vehicle bu failed to destroy it. Now they were sitting ducks for the Veterans and Tactical Marines.
The Chimera rumbled back behind cover in preparation for the next wave of enemies. The Platoon decided that there still wasn't enough room between them and the Berserkers and fell back once again. This time one of the Tactical squads followed suit while the other prepared to make a last stand to cause so the Berserkers, once they had killed them, would be left in the open. The Veterans opened fire and much to their chagrin, killed a single worshipper of Khorne, and lost have their number to plasmaguns over heating. The Tactical Marines moved forwards and finished the last two in a burst of bolter fire. The Marines decided if they were to die, they would sell their lives dearly and raising Missile Launcher and Plasmagun to cause pain, were afflicted by a sudden case of short sightedness and were unable to fire with a night fight roll of 6".
Chaos forces once agian raced forwards, the Rhino moved in to cause Tank Shock havoc while the Berserkers, well, berserked, and move forwards to put themselves in assault range of tactical squad. The Tactical Marine continued their long march. The Berserkers, raced into assault and predictably slaughtered their loyal brethren. Then, much to the Imperial's annoyance, made a heroic Massacre roll and dived behind the safety of the solid boulders.
The Tactical Squad advanced and predictably turned the Rhino to scrap with their meltagun. The Veterans retreated as did the the rocket toting tactical squad who felt a little exposed. Otherwise everybody else held their positions and rechecked weapons.
The Berserkers charged forwards, but had already blown all their steam and heroic moves and failed to rage. Sitting ducks. The Tactical squad raced forwards but were going to be too slow to cover the Berserkers' advance. The badly mauled tactical squad still in the deployment zone tried to snatch a few victory points by blowing up the crippled rhino, but failed.
In an attempt to make up for the poor show by the Tactical Marines on turn 3, all the Imperial forces poured fire into the Khorne Berserkers and wiped them out. Feeling pretty pleased with themselves, the Captain and Lieutenant ordered their men to reload for the next assault.
Realising they had already lost, the Tactical squad moved forwards and rapidfired their loyalist brothers, only to be thwarted by a rediculous set of rolls. Our opponents leant back and waited for the Imperial reply.
Grinning like idiots we picked up the dice, only to look like complete idiots as our men caused only a single wound on the offending Marines! Bugger bad night fight rolls and Guardsmen with BS3. We were thankfull however this level of incompetancy had happened after we slaughtered the raging Khorne Berserkers.
Not trusting their bolters, the Tactical squad surged forwards into assault and teh Sergeant's powerfist cut down three marines. The rest of them failed their LD test and were cut down as a final insult. However it was too late to matter.
Solid Victory to the Imperials. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, traitorous scum! :ninja:
As a something to do for the lack of anything else, I have been writing a piece of fluff to explain:
A) What were Blood Angels doing with Khorne
Why Blood Angels were playing like Vanilla marines
C) What a Space Marine Captain was doing in patrol force
D) Why I only had a unit of six Hardened Veterans. Blasphemy!
There will be a link once I'm done.
