In this thread http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...s-1500pts.html (Khorne\World Eaters 1500pts) I've looked for hints on building an up-to-date World Eaters army (my old list was not functional anymore ç_ç )
Following some of those replies, today I've played a very funny game versus some Ultramarines. It was a nice test,as his army was pretty balanced between shooting and assaulting. He had an extremely tough Command Squad, that has been a nightmare for 3 turns.
My list was:
Hq: Lord,khornate's axe,demonic strenght, MoK, Bolter Pistol : 101
7 Berserkers + Ac, Power Fist, ToBB : 180 x 3
7 Berserkers + Ac, Power Fist, Rhino with Smoke Granades : 228 x 2
Predator, Autocannon, Lasers : 125
Dread, Plasma Cannon, Missile Launcher : 125
Defiler : 150
We roll to decide who goes first and...I win!
On the first turn, three Berserkers units frenzied for a mere 6"+1" -___-° and the Dread, which had a great line of sight to wipe out some Ultramarines, Blood Frenzied as well...
I had to move both Defiler and Predator: 1 Ultramarine died -__-
Turn number two had 4 Berserker Units frenzy, and they all moved of 6"+5" or 6"+6", and that was sweet. On his first turn, my opponent moved his Land Speeder close to the Defiler. I moved Defiler+Predator a bit in order to shoot the Land Speeder: no hits at all. The Dread blood frenzied again... The assault phase was nice, HQ+ 1 troop unit dealt a lot of damage on his front lines. My Lord's Khornate Axe had no extra attacks.
During my opponent's second turn, his HQ squad wiped out one of my Bers units...his squad consisted in 6 or 7 models with 2 HQ dealing 9 or 10 combined attacks...ouch. His Land Speeder meltashoots my Defiler grounding him into oblivion.
Turn 3: Most of my units Blood Frenzy, but the Dread FIRES FRENZIES! Luck is by my side as the only enemy unit he can target is my opponent's HQ squad, 2 x Plasma Cannon + 2 x Rockets awarded me tons of points. The Predator gets a rid of the Land Speeder. Atm I have 4 Bers Units running on the field. Two of them are stuck in combat with some Ultramarines Veterans, one of them is dealing with a Sarcofagus (took 2 turn to kill it, terrible dice rolls on my Ac charge) and the last one chooses to charge his HQ unit. He had 3 models left, I've had 6....my unit got owned before it could even hit .___.
Far from this fight, my HQ+Bers Unit was still killing some random people. My Lord's Khornate Axe had no extra attacks.
Turn 4: There's not much left on the field at this point, he gathers most of his army behind a building. He has nearly 13 models left, 3 from the HQ squad, 4 Havocs and 7 Ultramarines, or something like that. I have the Predator, a Rhino, HQ+4 Berserkes+Ac...>__< .I desperately need my army (well, actually "what's left of my army" ) to Blood Frenzy and they don't fail, running for 6"+5". I manage to assault his HQ with my Lord and the regular Ultramarines (I think it was a tactical unit) with my remaining models. Lords strikes first: the Khornate's Axe unleashes his arcane powers and deals 8 wounds, wiping out my enemy's HQ. It had the chance to strike simultaneously to my Lord but didn't manage to hit him. 4 Berserkers + AC dealt some damage to the Tactical Squad. On my opponents turn we keep fighting in melee.
Turn five: all that's left one the table consist in my 2 vehicles, Lord and Ac on my side, 4 Havocs + 1 Ultramarines for my enemy. The Lord charges the Havocs, getting some extra attacks and killing them all. My AC runs toward the only Ultramarine left waving his Power Fist, but that lonely marine manages to kill the AC -__- On his turn he tries to blow up my Rhino from behind but failed, on the next turn the Lord kills him and it was all over.
It had been an extremely nice battle for both of us, took less then 2 hours to play.
Now let's talk about how things worked!
I usually play HQ for 180\200 points. This 101 lord scored nearly 600 points on his own, getting no wounds at all. Lord inside a troop unit > Statured Prince
3 units on foot with ToBB + 2 units on a Rhino give a nice speed to the army. I wish I could get the point to upgrade a couple of units with furious charge to deal with annoying I5 characters.
This was the last chance for Defiler and Dread, and the first game for the Pred.
Defiler was useless. Completely. I HATE to rely on that damn deviation dice. This guy is out, I'll play him again in 2000 points battle, but in the 1500 range he's sitting on the bench.
Dread has been a bit unlucky. Rolling twice a 1 was annoying, especially because he had a great line of sight on those turns. Lucky enough that 6 on turn 3 helped me to get a rid of my enemy's toughest unit. Well done on the whole.
The Predator would have been outstanding if I played it with twinlinked lascannon + requiems, since I had to continuosly move it. He scored 120\130 points but could not hit many times, good work for him, different weapons next time.
Now it's time for comments and suggestions!
I have 150 points to spend, the options are:
1) Some demonic stuff for the lord and furious charge for the troops
2) A second Predator plus a few upgrades for the Lord
3) 3 Bikers (I'd have to find 10 points somewhere, probably from the Dread's missile launcher)
N°1 would allow me to charge anything, either killing it istantly or striking at the same initiative (of course I refer to those armies with 99% models at I4 and some HQ at I5, not 'Nyds, Eldars etc)
N°2 would give me a lot of fire power. With 2 Predators available I'd play one with Autocannon+Lascannons, and the second with TWLC+requiems
N°3 means 3 more models and mobility. What I usually lack with World Eaters is something able to move on my opponent's weak side from turn n°1. I could also drop 1 Berserker Unit and play 8 Bikers with AC, which means 16 Berserkers on foot, 16 on Rhinos and 8 Bikers going wherever they want to.
That was quite a long post >_> I hope I didn't mess up too much with the language >__<
Any comments and\or suggestions and\or money donations (you'll never know...) will always be appreciated
I would opt for #2. Firepower is not what anyone expects from a WO army, plus it will mess up the opponent's fire priority even more. Increases overall life of your tanks, I say this is the best option, as most everything else seems to perform quite well.
I would highly suggest picking up a second or even third predator. World eaters really need the ranged, as P-tail already has suggested. I would even drop the defiler for all preds.
Defilers are great, but I'm always paranoid about scattering into my troops that are heading out there at break neck speeds. Preds with all lascannons will harden your army up immensely because your 'zerkers will have hard times taking care of: High toughness, and armor, both of which lascannons take good care of.
W/D/L Eleventy trillion billion/NONE/ NONE - I am STILL rulezor!
WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!
Seeing that this is a battle report, I feel that it's best placed in the battle report section.
Thanx for both comments!
A 2nd and 3rd Predators would be cool. For nearly the same price I used for the Pred\Defi\Dread list, I could play:
1 Pred with TWLC + requiems
1 Pred with Autocannon + Lascannons
1 Pred with all Lascannons
Too bad they can't have a Plasma Cannon on the turret!
I love tanks,deploying 2 Rhinos and 3 Predators looks nice >___<
I wonder if 3 Preds (or 2Preds+Dread) will be able to fire enough. Today my Defiler didn't do much (as usual), so my cover fire consisted in Pred+Dread, and at the beginning of turn 4 they had no targets. On turn 3 there was only 1 decent target not engaged in melee. Two Rhinos + 3 ToBB made me get to the enemy lines on turn2. I expect most troops to do that on turn 3. but 2 full fire rounds don't seem enough for 3 heavy supports to deal tons of damage, especially against armies with not many vehicles. Playing against Orks\Nyds or other armies with tons of low armor models would allow my tanks to kill several models each turn even after the beginning of the first assault, but if most of my enemy's troop will be engaged within 2 or 3 rounds, three HS will be a waste.
At least that's what I think. Since I never played 3 HS in the World Eaters list, I have no idea how they would work, and that's why I'm not sure how to replace the Defiler >___<
