IG vs SMs

I guess you could technicly call it a battle. The only thing my IG won is the right to move first! We played City Fight High Ground. It didnt help that the SMs had previously discovered a series of underground pasages that allowed them to pop up anywhere on the table. (Campaign rules we're playing). I did reach the objective first with my Kroot vulture mercs and one squad of infantry, but after that it was all down hill.
At turn four, the SMs graciously allowed me to concede and crawl away to lick my wounds. The outcome was obvious at that point.
But after the battle we all went down to the local pizza hut and watched the Alabama / Auburn football game and had a great time discussing my humaliting defeat and future tactics.
Oh well like I always say;

Why do you use Kroot? You could use the points you spend on them with a more powerful unit, such as Storm Troopers or an Armoured Fist Sqaud.

What was the points cost of the battle and what was your army list?

I don't think it always a matter of life or death what army you choose(?).

Anyway, I think it is a more challenging aspect to include kroot, other than any other ally. No offence ColonelKillmore...

And doc, I think you have chosen a challenging ally for your army, although it depends which army your playing against...

This army was desigined for city fight.
The Vulture Kroot was used as fast atk. Treat as with jump paks. WS 4 ST 4 and with the 6th sense,they are only hit with a 4+ by any template weapon, including flamers
Ogryns held in reserve
Part of the problem was due to the nature of our campaign.
The SMs had previously discovered a vast net work of subturranian tunnels which allowed them to appear anywhere on the board,and the SM player was smart enough to hold 1/2 his army in reserve and bring them in later at my already established strongpoints from the rear.
No excuse I know, but anyone in our campaign who fights this SM force will have a tough time beating him.
The fortunes of war have dealt him a pretty good hand so far.

wow sounds like an interesting battle, was it fun or just crap becuz if your loss....

Actualy, it was fun. I always have a good time when I play. Mainly because I game with a great bunch of guys, and we always sit down afterwards and discuss tactics. We have a give and take bunch. Every one that watches gives both players negative and positive feed back, on what they could possibly have done better.
I'm pretty sure that there will have to be some kind of alliance to beat the SM player. One was being discussed by two of the watchers even as we put away the terrain.

i like fun games that are evenly matched, i played a small game v some tyranids and it was stupid since it was REAL uneven, i woohped (sp) his arse REAL hard... i only lost two guys, he lost everything besides his 3 tyranid warriors..... it was 500 pts

Doc, I think you should include some Griffons in your army also try to include some haevy weapons sections so the y can provide cover fire while your infantry advance up the hill.

Agreed with you ColonelKillmore, In addition to the firesupport, the Griffon and other "guess ranged" weapons excel in Cityfight due to the reduced line of sight.
