1500 Eldar vs. Khorne
Note: This game was a true tactical victory for me and made fall in love with the new Eldar codex, with special love going to Harlequins and Spears. My friend’s Khorne army was the only army that defeated my previous Ulthwe army (may they rest in piece:cry: ), he was anything but a bad player. He has defeated all the employees of our local GW store within the last month (Nugle, Nid, and Marines players). The game night fight and the only objective was to capture the most table quarters, no victory points. He was hoping to quickly mop me up in combat and then proceed to capture the table quarters. My plan was to set up some sort of trap that would allow me to get the charge on his bikes and Demon Prince and hopefully annihilate them. This would require a combined all out attack of my army, and a little skillful luring of his frenzied troops so that I didn’t have to deal with all of them at once.
The battle only lasted 4 Turns before he gave up do to a complete and total defeat. I would have taken pictures if everything in my army expect the tanks wasn’t proxied. (I was testing this army to see if I should go out and buy it, and now I will. This was actaully the third straight victory of this army, the other two against IG and Marines.)
HQ- Autarch w/ jetbike, mandiblasters, and lance
Troops- 2x 10 Dire Avengers, Exarch w/ bladestorm and 2nd catapult
-Each In a Wave Serpent with Shuriken cannons, turret and upgrade, vectored engines, star engines, and spirit stone
Elites- 10 Harlequins w/ Harlequin’s Kiss and Shadowseer
Fast Attack- 4 Shining Spears, Exarch w/ star lance and withdraw
Heavy Support- Falcon w/ scatter laser, shuriken cannon, spirit stone, holofeild, vectored engines
HQ- Demon Prince w/ Demonic strength, speed, resistance, fire, aura, feel no pain, furious charge, Collar of Khorne, Spiky Bits, and a Great Weapon
(Got enough upgrades for you?)
Troops- 3x 8 Khorne Berserkers w/ Khorne Axes, furious charge, demonic icons, champion w/ power fist
- One squad in a Rhino
- 8 Khorne Blood Letters
Fast Attack- 5 Bikes, champion w/ powerfist
Heavy Support- Chaos Predator w/ Las turrets, Las sponsons, Demonic Possession, and smoke launchers
Night Fight, simply take as many table quarters as you can
Special rules: night fight and infiltrate
You could deploy anywhere in your quarter, but not within 24” of an enemy
There is a line of sand bags stretching the entire length (the long ways) of the table with a small building (two stories about 6 square inches) in the center. The NW and SW quarters each have buildings in the center and there was on building between the SE and SE quarters. The SE and NE both have a large ruble field in the center. Several small forests are scattered throughout the map. The one I will be referring to is between the NW and SW corners.
I would the role for choosing the quarter to set up in and chose the SW. He got to place first and placed his predator about 4” from the center and about 5” from the NW quarter, locking off most of my deployment zone. Then he pilled in the rest of his army in a square formation around his Demon Prince. His Bikes started right next to the Predator. I placed my Harlequins at the edge of the ruble field (it was about as close as they could get). Wave Serpent Beta started behind the building in between the SW and SE quarters. My Falcon and Autarch with his Shining Spears started behind the forest. Wave Serpent Alpha started behind the ruble field.
The Slaughter, ops I mean Game
Eldar turn 1
I have decided that I want to fighting to happen around the northwestern quarter, because an all out melee with the mass of his troops in the center would have spelled doom for my fragile Eldar. The Harlequins move 7” (fleet=1”) toward the building in the center of the northwest quarter, parallel to his lines so not to get any closer. The Autarch and his Shining Spears squad turbo boost behind the NW building. The Falcon moves 8 inches to get next to the rear of the same building. Wave Serpent alpha moves next the Falcon. Wave Serpent Beta moves into the southeast quarter and sets its self up next to the building there to try to lure one squad. The Falcon unloads into the side armor of the predator, hitting with 2 scatter laser shots, 1 pulse laser shot, and 2 shuriken cannon shots. Only the shuriken cannon penetrated and proceed to immobilize and stun the Predator, but the Demonic possession negated the stun. Wave Serpent Beta scored 15” on its night fight and couldn’t see anything. Wave Serpent Alpha shot at the forward most squad of the berserkers (Theta), killing one.
Khorne turn 1
All his berserker squads frenzy. The Demon prince moves straight towards the NW building followed by berserker squad Theta that frenzied 3”. Berserk squad Gamma moves toward Wave Serpent Beta, and the Rhino pulls in front of to block the line of sight of the Wave Serpent. Berserk squad Omega frenzies 5” and moves to the side of the center building facing my Falcon. The Khorne bikes turbo boost behind the small forest that is about 8” away from the NW building. The Predator unloads three lascannon shots into Wave Serpent Alpha, stunning it, but thanks to spirit stones, it is only a shaken.
Eldar turn 2
Wave Serpent Beta drops off the DA squad who then move into the building and unload into the berserker squad killing the only two they can see. Wave Serpent Beat moves between them and the Berserkers, to force an assault on it rather than the DAs. The Falcon and Wave Serpent Alpha move to the front edge of the building turning sideways to create a wedge that the Demon Prince and Bikes can’t move through. The Autarch moves his squad about 8” back from the wedge. The Harlequins fleet 2” and make it into the forest in between the NW and SW quarters on the way to the building. The trap is set, he has one idea what is in the vehicles and if the Demon Prince and bikes charge, it’s the end of them.
Khorne turn 2
His Blood Letters failed to come in. He than proceeds to fall for the trap…kind of. Berserker squads Theta and Omega frenzy, 2” and 5”, respectively. His Demon Prince moves into charge range of the falcon. Theta follows the DP about 4” back, not close enough to charge anything. The Rhino pulls around the building, fires its combi bolters and downs one DA. Berserker squad Gamma is forced to move within 2” of my Wave Serpent Beta. His bikes move out from behind the forest, just outside of the range of my bikes, preparing for the counter charge at whatever assaults his DP. The DP charges and fails to do anything to the Falcon. The Predator opens up and shakes Wave Serpent Alpha again. Berserker squad Gamma charges and the Champion with the power fist fails to do anything.
Eldar turn 3
Everything is looking up for as the trap is sprung. The Falcon unloads her Fire Dragons and the Waver Serpent unloads my second Dire Avengers squad. They both then jump to the other side of the building preparing to unload into the bikes. The Autarch and Spears move into assault range of the DP. The Harlequins move 6” towards the DP and Khorne bikes, their target being the bikes, and fleet an additional 5” allowing me to position them so that when they charge the bikes they will also charge the DP. Wave Serpent Beta backs away from the Berserker squad Gamma then unloads into the side of the Rhino, but fails to do anything. The first squad of DAs blade storm Berserker squad Gamma, killing all but three. The second DA squad attempt to shoot at Berserker squad Theta but only get 12” for their night fight vision. The Fire Dragons get 3 wounds on the DP but he saves it all. The Falcon and Wave Serpent Alpha shot 2 pulse laser shots, 4 scatter laser, and 9 shuriken cannon shots killing two bikes. The Autarch and his squad charge the DP, the Harlequins charge, 6 are engage with the bikes and 4 with the DP. The Autarch with his squad kill the DP before the Harlequins even strike. The other 6 Harlequins kill the Khorne bikes.
Khorne turn 3
The Blood Letters come in and scatter to the front of the Harlequins, and two kill themselves from landing on the Harlequins. All his Berserker squads frenzy, forcing Theta and Omega to head straight for my Harlequins. The 3 remaining members of Gamma charge the DAs that blade stormed fighting them to a stand still at 2 and 2 a piece. The Predator opens up again, and blows the top of off Wave Serpent Alpha. The Blood Letters, Theta are able to charge the Harlequins, but only 4 members of Theta manage to get into combat. My Harlequins strike first, Rending killing all but one Blood Letters and regular wound killing the final, and two of the Berserkers that got into combat. The two other Berserkers retaliate killing two right back. At the finish of combat the Harlequins Hit and Run, he consolidates as far away as 3” will get him, knowing that the coming counter charge will kill which ever squad they charge.
Eldar turn 4, the final turn
Both Wave Serpents and the Falcon converge on the Predator. The Autarch and the Spears close in on Omega and the Harlequins on Theta. The fire dragons advance trying to get in range of one of the squads. The Wave Serpents and Falcon open fire on the Predator and blow it shy high. The fire dragons open up on Omega killing 3. The Harlequins and Spears charge, and flatten both Berserker squads. His only remains soldier than proceeds to kill two Dire Avengers.
He conceded defeat at this point having nothing that can capture table quarters and only managing to take one of my squads done to half strength. The was a victory in every sense of the word.

that was the essesence of the taticality that the eldar need, you myfriend are a great general
Impressive victory. Special kudos to you for using the Mark of Khorne against him, placing your skimmers in front of your more vulnerable Dire Avengers, and keeping your squads hidden inside - very good tactical move there.
As for the rest of the battle, that was a brilliant way of using the Eldar as they are meant to be used, which is side by side, each element adding up to a greater whole.
Aren't bloodletters troops if your general has a Mark of Khorne?
Gareth is the person I try to impress when I convert and paint.
He has a very small khorne army there.....not sure how he did as well as you've said.
My world eaters are the same, with 3x8 zerkers, 8 bloodletters, tri las pred and a tooled up lord, but then i also fit a Defiler with I.F., and 5x flesh hounds. i know its not MUCH more, but its 200+ points worth, and a defiler raining down on the eldar may have made the difference.
Well done though.
What can i say, he really likes his bikes. But, he has been planning to order a defiler and this battle helped to set that in motion. No, they are still elites, it is the berserkers that become troop chioces instead of elites.Aren't bloodletters troops if your general has a Mark of Khorne?
same goes for the firedragons in another serpant. wasnt in the original list.....
yes, bloodletters are under 'troops' in the chaos codex, and stay so in any army that can take them.
ps. no idea how to use the multi-quote feature here, sorry.
Oh, right, I did forget the bikes, I'll edit that and the blood letters
