    775 Tau VS SM

    i went to my local gaming hobby center today and i played a game vs space marines.
    this was my REAL first time using tau(i type REAL like that cause i did a staff challange)
    any way the feild(from my P.O.V.)

    There was a building in the top left hand corner that wasnt on the border of the table. there was a bunker right by me (draw a line down the middle and to the left, there it is) a building on the right hand side of me(one where i can enter) and a building in the center, with barracades and wire traps allllll around...the table is 4'x4'

    My list was

    HQ1: Shas'o /w/CIB, Misslepod, Burstcannon, HW-MT, SI, HW-DC, HW-Blacksun Filter.
    HQ1's Retinue:2 Gun drones
    HQ2: Shas'el /w/ Plasma rifle, Fusion blaser, HW-Multi Targer, HW-DC, Iridium Armour, MT.
    HQ2's Retinue: 2 Gun drones
    Elite: 3 Squad stealth suit team /w/ Shas'vre, HW-DC, Bonding knife, Markerlight, MT.
    Elite's Retinue: 1 Markerlight drone, 1 Gun drone
    Troops 1 & 2: 6 Firewarriors /w/ Shas'ui, Markerlight, Bonding Kinfe, Target-Lock, MT
    Troops 3: 10 Kroot
    Troops 4: Devilfish, MT,(went with a squad)
    (Note: the firewarriors are troops 1 & 2, i doubled the points.
    my points total was 785.

    His list(if i can remember)
    1 Commander /w/ ?????
    probally 8-10 scouts
    8-12 marines with missle launcher
    8-12 marines with missle launcher
    5 assult marines

    (remember i cant remember his list totaly, but thats about it)

    we rolled for game, we got a 5.... and it was a 5 for the type of game =/

    well, the deployment went O.K.
    he started and put some troops behind some barracades
    I put fire warriors in the bunker spreading them out 2" away
    He put more marines behind some wiretraps
    I put my devilfish next to the bunker(saying it was landed)
    He put his commander in the building next to him
    I put my kroot into a building.
    He infiltrated his scouts
    I put my stealth suits in the building with the kroot.
    I put my commader with CIB(lets call him Commander Happy pants =) )
    I put my 2end commander behind the building(lets call this one, bob)

    Then we started the game,
    he got first turn

    1st turn Marines:
    Moveing
    He moved his scouts into the building.
    Shooting
    he shot at the firewarriors. killing none
    Chargeing
    no charging

    1st turn Tau:
    Moveing
    I got my FW's in the tank to jump out, moved the tank up, moved my CSC out of hiding.
    Shooting
    my FW's in the bunker shot at the marines on the left of me. kill none, markerlight,did crap. Commander happy pants shot his MP and killed nothing.
    k well lets skip out all the misses, HERE ARE THE HITS AND KILLS =D
    my tank shot his BC and killed 1. my kroot shot and killed 1
    Charging
    i ran away with my CSC's

    2end Turn SM:
    Moving
    He moved 1 squad of SM's towards me(the ones on the left)
    he moved his scouts more in. got his assult marines in
    Shooting
    shooting did nothing to me.
    shot my CSC called bob, kill 1 drone
    Charging
    none

    2end Turn Tau:
    Moving
    Agian i moved my CSC's out of hiding. and i moved my stealth suits out of the building.
    i also moved my kroot outa the building. made my tank sit there(land)
    Shooting
    i shot his assult marines killing them all, rest nothing happend
    Charging
    i hid...

    3rd Turn SM:
    Moving
    moved his right squad of SM's up and made his scouts move to the middle and also MOVED HIS COMMANDER 0.0 OMG!!...lol
    Shooting
    shooting his frag at my FW's agian. he killed one. and he shot at my CSC bob and killed a drone.
    Charging
    none

    3rd turn TAU:
    Moving
    moved my CSC's outa hiding. got my kroot to hug cover(middle building) and put the devilfish on the right side of the middle building
    Shooting
    killed his scouts(all but 4 DAMN) making him run like 14" and i wounded his commander
    charging
    moved my CSC's outa the way and moved my SS in hiding.

    4th Turn SM:
    Moving
    moved his commander closer to the objective, did his leapfrog thingy on the left flank
    Shooting
    shot a drone. killed it.
    Charging
    none

    4th Turn Tau:
    Moving
    Jumped every thing out
    Shooting
    shot and wounded the commander
    Charging
    made mad dashes for the objective

    5th Turn SM:
    Moving
    moved commander towards objective
    Shooting
    killed tank and a drone(sigh)(i have 1 drone left from the explosion)
    Charging
    Nothing useful

    5th Turn Tau:
    Moving
    jumped EVERY thing towards the objective
    Shooting
    Killed 3 scouts and his commader along with some marines
    Charging
    agian every thing to the objective

    6th Turn SM:
    Moving
    dident move
    Shooting
    Nothing useful
    Charging
    Nothing useful

    6th Turn Tau:
    Moving
    None realy
    Shooting
    Killed some marines in the right flank making them take a test.
    Charging
    Charged his singe scout did nothing thou


    Humm if i made that correctly. he only killed 5 things worth 125. and i basically killed all but 1 scout, 4 marines on the right flank and 6 or 7 on the left.
    all my units were in(or by) the building.
    with the points in the building and the victory points. i did pritty well.

    Good points.
    hell i won my first game, i did what i wanted to do.(cept for the markerlights)

    bad points.
    the markerlights. and my tank blowing up.


    any way. iam sorry if its not detailed alot. i left out all the missing in shooting..

    so. any thoughts.?

    Wait, a second. Do you frequent Games Workshop Scarbourogh in Toronto? Was there a misunderstanding about the term escalation during your game?

    Anyways, I personally wouldn't have taken two commanders at this pooint level especially with so much wargear. Nor would i have taken a marker drone on the stealths. But all in all it seemed to be quite an enjoyable game for you.

    Yes it was me.
    ANd yes, the game we were in had a misunderstanding of the escalation.
    the reason why i took 2 commanders is the IC, and i need 1 but the shas'el is getting BS 4, so he need 3's to hit. thats realy good. and its +1 to BS,W,I,A and the leadership for 15 points extra. thats pritty good for 15 pts.
    the ML's on the stealth suits are pritty stupid. when i can put it on a FW team that sits there for the whole game

    Like with the MLdrone, i can sit there till turn 5 then jump out, but they were deployed so nicely that they were in range allready. so yeah.

    What a surprise? You actually won! Just joking. hah
    Seriousily though, your Tau looks just like your Nid army except the green is alittle brighter.

    Back on topic:
    Taking two HQs in this situation is not a bad thing since all he has is two Crisis suits and the IC status will provide enough protection. Then again, what the heck is up with the two Gun Drones? You deliberately took two Crisis Suits and give them IC status, then you took away their IC status by giving them Gun Drones? Smart guy!

    Markerlight Drone on your Stealth Team? Were you planning on not moving your Stealth suits for the entire game?

    Devilfish does not count as a Troop choice, so there isnt really a Troop #4.

    Overall, there is not much room to give out comments, mainly because I know you took most of those 'useless upgrades' just to stuff up the point value so you could play that 775pt game. One suggestion though, take off the Drones from your HQs and your Stealth team, then form an individual Drone squad as fast attack if you insist on taking drones. That way you have more control over the amount of shots they contribute, instead of having to waste their tiny shots over a target that's already been showered by plasma fires.

    Opss, one more thing to add.. take off the Burst Cannon on your Shas'O and give him Plasma Rifle instead. You have enough plasma pulse shots (Stealth Team/Fire Warriors), spend the point on something more useful.. if you need to shift around your points, you could take off the Blacksun Filter and Stimulant Injector (You shouldnt be needing SI because of the IC status.. if you somehow get into combat, then you are not playing it right).

    Off-topic:
    By the way, I won that game last night against Howard. His 9 Dark Lances all got their chance to fire one single shot each before they were wiped off the board.. all 9 shots hit, but none of them manage to get a 4+, pretty bad. hah.
