Lord with Orb
3x10 Necron Warriors
(all the army had the Bold SEA)
Master Shaper with 2 Hounds, Kroothawk Totem, Power Weapon, Bolt Pistol, HNA
2x 16 Carnivores, Shaper with Eviscerator and Blood of the Stalker
14 Vulture Kindred with Frag Grenades, Shaper with Eviscerator and Blood of the Stalker
2x 14 Kroot Hound Pack with Frag Grenades and HNO + 12 Hounds, Shaper with Eviscerator, Blood of the Stalker and Veneration Charm.
As things go with Kroot, the whole army infiltrated, so the Necron player was forced to set up blindly, not knowing where the adversary would have hit. The choice was a fairly standard one, with the monolith bang in the center of the field, lord and pariahs right in front with a unit of warriors and a unit of destroyers on each side. His left flank was covered by a unit of warriors, while the immortals protected the right flank.
Kroot deployed very similarly, doing their best to engage him in first turn: Vultures in the middle (2" extra Infiltrate because of the Blood), hounds on each side (1" and 2") and the flanks covered by the two carnivore units (4" and 5"). Master shaper was deployed into one of the hound units and Angkhor behind the vultures (and safe behind a 12" deep forest).
We roll for first turn: the dice decide the Kroot player has earned the initiative!
The kroot advance steadily towards the enemy, the hounds and the vultures getting ready for the assault, while the two carnivores harass the necron with a volley of rifle shot (without managing to down even one warrior). Without further ado, they charge! One hound unit manages to engage both immortals and a unit of warriors, also engaged by the vultures, while the other unit of hounds assaults the necron with his pariah retinue and the nearby warriors. The losses are heavy on the necron side, though not too bad, although two pariahs die to the sharp hounds' teeth, the lord takes one wound and the immortals actually break due to morale!
The necron doesn't blink and has most of his losses come back, augmented by the Lord's Orb. With a masterly move, he teleports the warriors that were engaged with the hounds and vultures away (though due to the massed HtH in his deployment zone the Monolith couldn't move very freely), leaving them standing there like sitting ducks... and he opens fire! Sadly, only the immortals and one of the Destroyers (which erroneously moved to the center of the field to have a clear shot) can target the 26man hound pack and not enough die. The other 3 destroyers shot at the vultures, along with another unit of warriors, effectively downing more than half of the unit, which nevertheless holds fast. The other HtHs procede with the main event being the lord and another pariah downed.
The kroot player doesn't have much choice and continues pressing towards assault: the hound pack moves towards the immortals, supported by the carnivore kindred that shoot (and as usual don't do any damage), the vultures close in on the three destroyers that had left the security of the bulk of the necron force, a unit of carnivores closed in on some warriors and the master shaper manouvered to assist the hound unit that was still munching through some warriors and the last pariah.
The vultures disintegrated the destroyers, thanks to Angkhor Prok's inspireing presence ability, while the hounds splattered the immortals. The other hound pack with the master shaper managed to kill the last pariah and a few other warriors, but not enough. Meanwhile, on the far left side the second unit of carnivores assaulted the warriors.
This turn's teleport choice for the necron player was the big HtH with the hounds straight in front of the monolith, which resulted in the unit coming back at 90% force and annihilating the disengaged hound pack along with the monolith's arc and the remaining unit of destroyers, leaving only the shaper alive... though not for long as he was assaulted immediately after by the necron lord, who luckily enough had decided to come back.
The remaining assault on the left hand side continued without any particular events, while the master shaper actually had to flee HtH due to the efforts of a warrior unit that not only lost only one model, but managed to kill one of his hounds and wound him!
Thanking his lucky stars the kroot player managed to rally the Master Shaper and bog him back into assault with the Necron Lord (downing him yet again), while the last hound pack and the vultures assaulted a warrior unit, leaving only four models. On the left battle continued between the carnivores and the warriors, without either gaining the upper hand. And the second carnivore unit started trapsing towards the heat of the battle, too far to do anything but walk.
The Necron started off by botching the Necron Lord's be back roll, to the kroot player's great joy and teleporting the 4 warrior unit away from HtH and blasting away the vultures and most of the hounds, along with the master shaper's last two wounds.
On the left hand side, the assault finally drew to an end with the carnivores emerging victorious and consolidating towards the last three destroyers hoping to get at them in the next turn.
The kroot player didn't have much choices left: he had to down the destroyers and 3 warriors to have the adversary phase out!
The destroyers were taken care of by the carnivores that had just freed themselves from the 2turn assault against the warriors, but of the 4 man squad only 2 were downed by the hound pack.
The necron player didn't have much to do either, with only the monolith and two necron warrior units on the table: he teleported the last 2 necrons from HtH (also having one more come back) and annihilated the hound unit (only the Shaper remained) with their fire and the monolith's, while the 9 man warrior unit killed off the carnivores that had done in the destroyers.
There never was a turn 5... the hour was late and both me and my associate decided to call it quits and go pubbing before they all closed, leaving the game at a stall.
It was a draw, though due to a last lucky move the lith got within 12" of the objective, claiming it for the necron player (he actually remembered this when already packing, dealing the last deadly blow) and giving him the final victory.
On the other hand the kroot player was happy enough knowing that he had nearly phased him out (only 2 models to go) and probibally would have if the game had continued.
