This was a terrible, terrible game and I'm still really P.O.'d so I'm going to keep this short.
Table was 5'x5' I believe, urban terrain. Several large buildings scattered around including one large one in the middle that measured about one square foot. Various rubble, craters, wreckage etc all around.
Axe of Khorne, BP, D. Resilience, D. Strength, Spiky Bits, Frags, Collar
4 x Khorne Berzer Squads (8-man each)
Khornate Chainweapons, Frags, Champion, Power Fist, ToBB
Autocannons, Smoke, D. Possession
Warlord on Bike
Twin-linked Big Shootas, Power Claw, some sort of 5+ invuln. save thing
Warbike Squadron of 5 or 6
Twin-linked Big Shootas
3 x Slugga Boyz in Trukks
Big Choppas, Shootas, Big Shoota, Big Shootas on Trukks
Twin-linked Big Shoota
Shootas and Choppas
Mission rolled was Seek & Destroy, Alpha -- fitting for Orks and Worldeaters. I got one table edge, he got the other. I made my first mistake. I've never played against Orks before (hell, this is my 3rd game, I've only ever played against SM and Eldar), so I had absolutely no idea what they were capable of armament-wise. First thing to go down was my Dreadnought, which I deployed on the far left table edge, behind some rubble. My thinking was that he'd probably have lots of guns that could kill it so I planned to use it carefully, peeking it out to take on enemies one at a time. I also deployed two Berzerker squads near it, on the left flank of the table. In response the Ork player deployed EVERYTHING he had on the right flank. Everything. Except for a single Wartrukk, which he deployed near the center of his deployment zone. To face his entire army I had two squads of Berzerkers and my Lt on the right flank.
ORKS TURN 1:
Predictably, everything on the right flank moved forward. Two Trukks and the Buggy rolled up to shoot, as did the Bikers. This was the start of my bad luck (or my opponent's good luck?). Big Shootas on the Bikes shoot three times, for a total of what I believe was 24 shots. Even though Orks are BS2, and require a 5 or 6 to hit, THE BASTARD ROLLS 21 HITS ON MY ONE BERZERKER SQUAD, missing only 3 shots! Wtf! I was absolutely amazed. 21 STR 5 hits.. needless to say, 4 Berzerkers went down for the count. From the other Berzerker squad on the right flank, one Berzerker went down from the combined shots of Two Trukks and a Buggy (9 shots). After the dust settled the Bikes were too far away to charge.
WE TURN 1:
Every squad Raged and moved forward. The two left flank squads found themselves utterly alone and did nothing. Dreadnought moved up, thankfully not Raging, and fired off a couple of shots at the Wartrukk the enemy deployed in the center. Two 2's rolled. But they're twin linked, so I re-roll. Twin 2's again. Wtf? Four 2's in a row? On the right flank, the Berzerker squad that has only 4 men left charge into the Bikes. Despite 17 attacks, and a higher Initiative, the Berzerkers only manage to kill a single Biker (and take two wounds off the Warlord), and in return are annihilated. The second Berzerker squad in the area fails to get into charge range. The Lt as well, who has joined this squad.
ORKS TURN 2:
The entire right flank of the Ork mob converges on the Berzerker squad and Lt. Everything shoots, downing 3 Berzerkers. In the assault phase, the Stormboyz and Warlord move in. My I5 Lt goes first, sending all 5 of his WS5, S5 power weapon attacks at the Ork Warlord. Nothing. The rest of the Berzerker squad splits its attacks between the Stormboyz and the Bikes. Roughly 15 attacks. One biker killed, nothing more. Entire Berzerker squad is then annihilated, and Lt suffers one wound (thankfully not from the Power Claw on the Ork).
WE TURN 3:
Two squads on the left flank move around the large building in the center of the field, heading towards the Ork mob from behind. The mob had converged on the Lt and his Squad which were on the right side of the building. Lots of juicy backs to cleave. The Dread moves up, firing his autocannons at the nearest (full) Trukk. Shot penetrates and the truck EXPLODES. However, because of some STUPID rule dictating that Orks will only be damaged on a 6 when their transport explodes, only one dies. (Also, I was very confused about the rules here. I know when a transport suffers a penetrating hit, all passengers must immediately disembark -- but if the transport explodes and sends its debris D6", will those newly disembarked troops get caught in it? Or do they ONLY suffer from emergency disembarkation from a vehicle moving more than 6"? Anyway, the GW staff at the store said the Orks wouldn't be affected by the fireball from the explosion). Unfortunately a Berzerker is caught in the explosion. He's wounded, and of course, I roll a 1 for his save, and he dies. In the assault phase the Berzerkers charge the mob of Sluggas, who fail their morale test and get cut down in the sweeping advance that ensues.
ORK TURN 4:
One of the two remaining Trukks unloads its troops nearby the Berzerker squad that had just annihilated the remnants of the other trukk's boyz. The stormboyz also rocket into the area. The buggy moves in. My LT and his Warboss w/ Warbikes continue fighting. A lot of stuff shoots at the Berzerker squad, killing it off thanks to yet another round of him rolling a handful of 5s and 6s and me rolling a handful of 1s and 2s. In the assault phase, my Lt gets to strike first. Again, all 5 of his attacks go at the Warboss. One hit, no wounds. The Lt is then cut down by the Ork's power klaw. Wtffff. The Bikes consilidate through difficult terrain, and one dies.
WE TURN 4:
Seeing my entire force obliterated, I pull back my single remaining Berzerker squad and Dreadnought, as the Berzerkers won't be able to get into charge range with any Orks even if I frenzy. I move the Dread into position to fire on the only remaining Wartrukk that is still loaded with troops, and promptly destroy it, killing one Ork as he jumps out and breaks his neck.
ORK TURN 5:
The bikes turn tail and go back the other way, to round the building from the other side. Another one dies crossing difficult terrain. Two bikes are in position to fire at my Berzerkers. Remaining Wartrukk and Warbuggy make big moves to fire on my Berzerker squad. All told, firing from 4 Big Shootas kills 2 or 3 Berzerkers. Nothing is in charge range.
WE TURN 5:
Squad frenzies but is bogged down by difficult terrain. Dreadnought also blood rages, charging the nearest squad of slugga boyz, and kills 6 of them. The boyz stand their ground.
ORK TURN 6:
Bikes surge forward and shoot into Berzerkers, killing all but two. An Ork with a power klaw lets off two attacks, one hits, penetrates, destroys the Dreadnought.
WE TURN 6:
Two remaining Berzerkers charge 20 Orks and are predictably annihilated.
I was so very, very, very pissed off at this game. I rolled more 1s and 2s than in all my other previous games combined. No joke. I've only had 3 other games anyway. From turn 1 to the very last, every single dice roll I made was crap. The quad 2's rolled for the Dread; the plethora of 1s and 2s rolled for armour saves, to-hit and wounding rolls, etc. And my opponent was gifted with just the opposite; hitting 21 out of 24 shots with BS2 was just the tip of the icebergs. I've thrown Berzerkers up against 3 times their number of Marines, including Commands and Captains and Veteran Sergeants and even Chapter Masters and they've had no trouble at all. But I simply couldn't kill a single friggen Ork. By the end of it, I had killed two Warbikes, 4 Stormboyz, 12 Slugga Boyz and two Wartrukks, and lost 32 Berzerkers and a Dreadnought. Wtfffff.
It wasn't 100% bad dice, however. I made a lot of tactical errors. First, I wasn't aware that my opponent's team didn't have a single friggen shooting weapon that could've even scratched my Dreadnought! The biggest gun he had was his S5 Big Shootas. Because I was expecting there to be.. well, more big guns.. I had deployed my Dreadnought in sort of a hiding position, like I said, so that I could sneak him out a few inches at a time. This of course meant he completely avoided it, screwing me over. The rest of my deployment was botched. I had essentially made two groups, one containing two Berzerker squads and a Dread, and the other two Berzerker squads and my Lt. I thought they'd be big enough. I was wrong! If ever the words "Divide & Conquer" rang true, it was during this game. With my forces so effectively split by the gigantic building in the center, he was able to concentrate on one half while completely avoiding the other. Arggghh. And lastly, to top it off... god did he have a lot of Big Shootas. They were everywhere. And they're very good at mowing down row upon row of enemy troops, even Marines. His mobility helped him a lot too.
All told I was ill-prepared and had an incredibly botched deployment. When I went into the store I had no idea who/what army I'd be facing. I just brought a generic 1000pt list and asked for a game. Hah, my arse is still sore from that kicking...

Great report. It happens dude. It is always hard to face 1000 pts with 500. Seems like your only mistake was deployment.
Indeed. My first experience against orks (I was vannila marines) was at a tournament.
It was......eye opening, to say the least. People rarely give them the credit they're due.
Suck up the loss, and learn to adjust your list to deal with it better. It's how we all learn.

I think my list was adequate. Like Dave said, the one guiding force that lost me the game was my deployment. Even with those bad rolls I might've had a chance if i had deployed my Dread in the center, and deployed all my Berzerkers together instead of splitting my army in half. I must go back for a rematch very soon!

Wait, what happend to your turn 2 and his turn 3?
Hope is the first step on the path to dissapointment. - Isador Akios
LOL I don't know! I don't remember, now, and don't have the energy to try and remember it.

Never mind mate, the dice you cant account for, it happens, as you said deployment wasnt brilliant, but dont be taken in, this isnt the only way Orks can be played, you can find yourself shot at!
However, you face him again, as you seem to be aware, dont split your forces, split deployment is mainly the tactic of the shooty army.
It would be very interesting to see how you play against a shooting army with split deployment
Everything you have been told is a lie!
