Letís cut to the chase and do the battle report! This is a 1000pt tourney, 1st round. Mission is seek and destroy.
My List (Iron Warriors all with MoCU)
LT w/ Bike, melta, PW, teleport homer
2x 5-man squads w/ las (las sniper teams)
1x 7-man, 4x BP/CCW, 2x Plasma, AC w/ PF, BP - infiltrate
3x Oblits in 1-1-1 squads
7-man Havocs, 4x Autocannons, Tank Hunters
Basilisk w/ indirect fire
Librarian, PW, Storm Shield (5+ inv in CC), the psychic power that cuts through everyone in a line and inflicts attacks based on rolls (sorry, donít remember name). Either way, it never killed anyone.
Landspeeder with HB and assault cannon?
Tac squad A, 10-man, SGT w/PW and Plasma Pistol, 1x plasma rifle, missile launcher
Tac squad B, 10-man, SGT w/PW and Plasma Pistol, 1x plasma rifle, Heavy Bolter
1x 7-man scout squad, sniper rifles and 1 HB
6 or 7 man Terminator squad with 1 assault cannon
Whirlwind w/ indirect fire
Terrain did not go my way. We both had terrain scatter away from us into the middle, but his stayed to the edges while mine clumped up in the middle. We were also playing on a 1/2 board (3x4) so my firelanes were non-existent. I had to deploy my havocs on a hill, the las teams to either side of my terrain, the HQ behind a las team on my right (in a direct line with his whirlwind), the bassie behind the havocs on the hill, and the infl CC squad in the area terrain in the middle, more then 6 in. deep. Oblits stay in reserve for a DS.
He deployed the scouts and Tac A on the right, next to the Whirlwind. Tac B on the left, and the termies and libby in the left/middle area, behind a hill. The Landspeeder was between the termies and libby. He got first turn.
SM-He moves the termies on the hill, the libby beside the hill w/ the landspeeder, and everyone else just stands. He has LOS to the Havocs and both las teams. The landspeeder and termies, plus a krack missile from tac A devastate my Havocs. 7-man go down to 2. Ouch! Tac B took out one man in the las team on the left with a failed save from the HB. The whirlwind scatters off. No other casualties to report (the libby forgot his psychic power).
CSM- My HQ turbo boosts to the best spot ever. Heís about 6 in. away from the whirlwind, but on the other side of area terrain (really small piece) and LOS is blocked to him by everything (but just barely). The CC squad moves up a bit in terrain so they can possibly shoot the plasma but they donít have range. The las team on the right glance the landspeeder with a shaken. The havocs exact revenge and blow up the landspeeder! Yeah skimmer killers! The other las team got a termie down. The bassie scatters off.
SM- Termies and libby continue to advance. Tac B moves up the hill so they canít shoot. Termies shoot and get 3x 6s against the havoc with the assault cannon. Bye bye Havocs (quickest I have ever lost them). The CC squad gets tore up as well by the scouts, libby, Tac A and whirlwind fire. Theyíre now down to 3 men, 2x plasma and the AC. At this point, itís not looking good for me. Everyone was thinking the SM had this one by looking at the board. But they all forgot my reserves...
CSM- Roll for reserves brings in 2 oblits. With the teleport homer, I place them in the area terrain with one aimed down the scout line and the other down Tac As line. The HQ moves through the terrain and fires his melta point blank at the whirlwind. Hit, pen, 4, destroyed. The oblit by the scouts uses his flamer and hits 6 of the 7, kills 4! The 2nd oblit rapid fires plasma into Tac A taking out two marines (I love twin linked plasma!) Las on the right shoot a marine in Tac A. Las on the left shoot another termie. Bassie scatters off of Tac B on to termies, partial on one, hits, wounds, he fails his 2+! The CC squad moves out of cover hoping to get someone before they die. They plasmaíd the termies, all missed, one gunner fried. However, the BP from the AC hits, wounds and the termie rolls a 1! GO-GO BOLT PISTOL OF TERMIE DEATH! Overall, much better round for me.
SM-Tac B fires and kills one las team member, and, unbelievably, causes them to run (with MoCU even!). Good thing theyíre over 50%. The libby tries his psychic against the 2 oblits and the HQ (all in a line to the libby) but does nothing. The termies move towards the CC squad, shoot, cause 5 wounds, and I score 5 armor saves! Tac A and scouts try to pop the oblits, but no joy.
CSM- The las coward team rallies. The CC squad moves up close to the termies (about 1 in. away). 3rd and final oblit comes in right in front of the libby. HQ stays where he is (he was wounded by something I canít remember and since heís an LT, no need to invite his death). First, the oblit turns the libby into a molten slag pile with his twin linked melta. The oblit chasing the scouts guns one more with a HB leaving two. The oblit vs Tac A shoots twin linked plasma love, and along with a shot from the las team on the right, knocks them down to five. The overly brave CC squad canít decide... Charge and get 3 attacks with a PF if they survive, or shoot? I roll a die and the die says, shoot. So I shoot the last two termies with plasma, 2 hits, 2 wounds, 2 1ís for saves. Dead termie squad. We were all in shock. The bassie moves behind the las squad on the left as Tac B is too close for indirect fire. It fires and gets one due to scatter. He now has 7 left in Tac B. The oblits proceed to charge. Unfortunately, vs the scouts the oblit proves to be too slow and canít reach them. However, the other oblit reaches Tac A. I really believe oblits suck in CC, but better to charge then be charged the next turn. Fighting ensues, he loses 1 to the oblit PF and passes his leadership.
SM- The scouts try to pop the oblit, no luck. Tac B moves forward towards the bassie and las team on the left. Up till this they were all bunched up (which worked vs scatter) be he decides to spread out to minimize bassie direct hits (if they ever come!). Tac B then wipes out the CC squad. CC ensues with Tac A and the oblit, nothing happens.
CSM- Las team on the right moves forward to try and get in position to shoot someone later. Bassie shoots and scores! 4 marines in Tac B bite the dust. The oblit that killed the libby (who picked up 1 wound somewhere, I donít remember) fires plasma at Tac B, kills one, and ends up frying himself! With a re-roll and a 2+ save... Comon! The las team on the left take out another marine in Tac B and finish of the squad with some well placed bolter shots. The oblit chasing the scouts gets one more and brings that squad to one. My lord charges the CC with the oblit and Tac A. He proceeds to miss about half but gets two. In turn, he gets PWd by the SGT and dies. The oblit whacks two, and kills Tac A off.
SM- With one scout left he tries to shoot the oblit, but fails. Then, we discussed the likely hood of his death in my turn and that the best thing he probably could do is take a chance and charge. He does and scout vs Oblit battle ensues, and he hits 2, wounds 1, but itís saved. Then he was squished. Nevertheless, it was a good effort!
So, at the end of his round five I won by a total of 890 VPs. What surprised him? He told me after heíd never seen anyone use oblits as a fast/mobile strike force. He really thought he had me after the Havocs died, and I was with him on that. But three oblits on your flank can ruin anyoneís day. He also thought the oblit melta to the libby was the best way to take him out. I agreed, especially when itís twin linked. I was most upset about the Havocs, but there was little I could do and it didnít matter in the end. All in all, a good fight that was going one way fast, and flipped.
Nice report there, shows that just because you have a bad first round you can still pull off a win.
Never give up. I aslo like it when theres some humor in the report like when the obit falls his save "With a re-roll and a 2+ save... Comon!" Very funny.
"Hey sarge, this lasgun is heavy. I wish we had something lighter."
FF7: ABOUT RANDOM BATTLES
Very well-written and conclusive battle report.
Really nice to see a battle report with pictures! Seems like it was an interesting game. Great comeback, funny too.
Good job. :-)
Only in Death does Duty end.TAU EMPIRE: 2000pts
WOOD ELVES: 1000pts (and growing)
Wish more battle reports were as clear as yours Good, bloody fight, the way it should be between Marines and Traitors. I'd attach the libby to a squad usually to make sure he doesn't get popped like that, but we all play differently.
great read man, congrats from one warsmith to another.ive been reading your blog a bit lately and im getting some great ideas from it. Keep it up!
