Ok my list for the day was:
Farseer /w jetbike, mind war, singing spear, runes of warding
9 fire dragons
Wave Serpent /w everything, missile launchers
5 howling banshees (in epsilon)
exarch /w executioner
9 dire avengers
exarch /w diresword, pistol, bladestorm, defend (which I forgot I had)
Wave Serpent /w everything, lances
5 dire avengers (in echo)
Vyper /w 2 shuriken cannons
Falcon /w everything except star engines, starcannon (Epsilon)
Falcon /w everything except star engines, 2 shuriken cannons (Echo)
all armies must be at least 30% troops. No more than 30% in each other FoC.
You get extra tourney points for killing the enemy commander, bringing all enemy units below scoring, having 2+ units in their deployment zone, having more scoring units left than your opponent.
These reports are from memory as I didn't take notes so sorry if they aren't as clear as normal. I didn't have a camera with me and I don't have time to write fluff or do battlemaps as I have 3 to write.
1st game was Eldar Vs. Eldar
He had a farseer, spider autarch, warp spiders, scorpions, dragons in a falcon, avengers in a wave serpent, avengers on foot, guardians /w a missile launcher, shooty wraithlord /w missile launcher and scatter laser, pathfinders.
Terrain was basically some hills down the sides and 3 buildings scattered throughout the centre. He had a forest in top left.
I deployed all my tanks and the jetbike in the centre; behind buildings.
He put his spiders (+ autarch) top-right; behind a building. both tanks behind it too. wraithlord, guardians and farseer top-left. Foot avengers behind hill in mid. Scorpions infiltrate behind hill on left.
Mission was we each pick a piece of terrain. If someone holds both bits of terrain by the end its a major victory. If they hold just 1 its a minor victory. If we hold 1 each or none its a draw. I chose the building slightly to the left and he chose the building in our top right. We were also meant to be playing night fight but neither of us noticed until turn 5 so we dropped it.
Pathfinders infiltrated and scouted into his obj. building. His did exactly the same thing to me with my obj. building.
His turn 1
Just about everything except the guardians, seer and wraithlord advance. Spiders walk into the building and shoot up my pathfinders. I roll 4 1's and the last guy runs away. %$&@ I'm basically out of sight so nothing else happens.
My turn 1
Missile serpent flies straight down the middle 36". Lance serpent goes down the right side along with Epsilon but they fail to do any damage. Echo tank shocks the scorpions down the left and they fail morale and run. Vyper is just out of range of the guardians. Farseer has a crack at his wraithlord with mind war but the enemy runes of warding foils it. Ghosthelm saves me from the daemon attack.
His turn 2
Scorpions can't rally because Echo's to close. His tanks advance 12". The avengers jump out and bladestorm Epsilon in the rear. It's immobilised, missing its pulse laser and shaken. Fire dragons disembark and shake the lance serpent. the wraithlord shoots its missile launcher and scatter laser into echo along with the guardians missile launcher but it only get's shaken. Spiders + the autarchs fusion gun only manage to shake the missile serpent. The dire avengers assault the rear of Epsilon to trap the banshees inside. My vyper dies somehow and I really can't remember how... his wave serpent maybe?
My turn 2
Echo has a crack at tank shocking the guardians. They pass morale thanks to the farseer. Lance serpent flies over to my obj. building to try and flush out the pathfinders (and because the dragons were blocking its rear). Fuegan and his dragons disembark and melt the spider squad. 1 spider, the exarch and the autarch remain. Farseer tries another mind war on the wraithlord but runes of warding foils it once again. His ghosthelm fails him this time but the warp rolls a 1 to wound so hes ok. Everything of mine is basically shaken so an uneventful turn.
His turn 3
ok I can't remember what shot what so I'm just going to describe the damage. His scorpions were still to close to Echo and run off the board. His spiders retreat a little and shoot the fire dragons (along with something else [avengers on foot? pathfinders?]). Basically I lost all but Fuegan + 1 dragon. All my vehicles got shaken, Epsilon died, 1 banshee died getting out and they were entangled, lance serpent got immobilised. His falcon finally flushes out my farseer and promptly butchers it.
My turn 3
Echo flew into the centre of the board to get some room to maneuvre. Missile serpent flew over and sat next to lance serpent (and my obj. building). Avengers disembark and shot + assaulted the pathfinders. Wiping them out and giving me complete control over my building. Fuegan tries to charge the spiders but he can't reach. His last dragon disciple can though and manages to lock them down in cc. He wounded the autarch and didn't die! Oh and the autarch's the only one left sorry. I melted the other 2 spiders.
His turn 4
The wraithlord and farseer advance. Farseer tries out his eldritch storm on the lance serpent and does bugger all. His wraithlord + guardians immobilise and shake the missile serpent (damn scatter laser rolled to many 6's). His dragons make lance serpent explode 6". Catching a few of his foot dire avengers, a few fire dragons and all of my dire avengers. We both lost a few avengers and no dragons died. His wave serpent manages to hit something and shakes Echo (it hasn't fired yet this game >.<'). His foot avengers reach my obj. building and shoot my avengers (they didn't have bladestorm). Between that and the explosion I now have 3 avengers and the exarch left. He charges and kills all but the exarch, losing 1 avenger in return. I fail morale and die. His other dire avengers (the one from the wave serpent on the right side behind Epsilon's wreckage) unload a bladestorm into the banshees, killing them all. Fuegan scores 2 wounds on his autarch in cc and thanks to the earlier efforts of the lone fire dragon's cc the autarch dies!
Ok just to clarify a few things at the moment and hopefully give you a better picture of the battlefield at this point. I had Echo full of avengers in the middle of the board. an immobilised wave serpent right next to my obj. building slightly to the bottom-left. I also have Fuegan and a fire dragon in standing in the open just above the centre of the board. He has some guardians in the top left forest and his farseer and wraithlord down the left. He has some avengers over on the right side of the board and some more in my obj. building.
My turn 4
Fuegan and the dragon are determined to flush out the dire avengers from my obj. building. They try to run through a small forest/hill/tree thing to get there and Fuegan unattaches to benefit from his move through cover but he trips over and falls flat on his face (rolled THREE 1's!). He uses that 1" to re-attach to the fire dragon for fearlessness and protection. Echo keeps flying across the board just outside his obj. building and ready to unload its few avengers. Fuegan and his disciple fleet 6" into the terrain he tripped over before.
His turn 5
His guardians advance. Whatevers in range gets pointed at Echo. It comes out only shaken (again). His dire avengers (the ones from the serpent and that killed epsilon) run into his obj. building so that he now controls both. His fire dragons turn their guns on the missile serpent and it explodes 6" too. It kills all of his dragons except the exarch, a few more avengers (2 I think), wounds Fuegan, kills his disciple and fails to wound the wraithlord. His wraithlord also got out of range of the farseer and failed its very 1st wraithsight test. Foiling any possible charge on Fuegan.
My turn 5
Echo flies way back out of sight behind his obj. building. Fuegan knows I now have no hope of taking my obj. building back with the wraithlord now counting for it as well as the avengers and soon to be guardians so he might as well do something spectacular and try and get me a few tourney points by killing the commander. He charges into the Farseer and dishes out 1 wound. He saved against the firepike.
At this point in the game I can still unload the avengers into his building and fly Echo over to the other one. That way I can contest them both and force a draw.
His turn 6
He can still kill my commander for the extra tourney point. His wraithlord and guardians charge Fuegan. Fuegan kills a few guardians (should have targetted the farseer) and then he gets squished by the wraithlord. His wave serpent moves and is the only thing that can see Echo and fires its scatter laser. He got 4 hits and 3 6's the bastard. He then rolled double 6 for damage so Echo died! my plan down the drain! 1 avenger dies coming out and luckily they are more than 6" through the building from his avengers so they now safely contest that building.
My turn 6
All I have left is my entangled avengers and they sit there contesting his obj. building. He holds mine though so its a minor victory to him.
Result: Minor Loss for me. He also got a lot of tourney points but the fact I had 4 dire avengers left on the board as a scoring unit denied him a fair bit.
Lessons Learned: I needed to silence his anti-tank much earlier THEN go for the objective. Also be careful which way I pointed tha tank. Depositing units in the right place (or indeed at all) is far more important than exposing my rear armour.
Man of the Match: That lone fire dragon that stuck with Fuegan 'till his death. Other units had more impact on the game but he did his duty far better than expected. He also wounded a tooled up autarch (and beat him in cc!) and melted a warp spider.
I'll post the next 2 battles seperately to keep this post clean and efficient and so that I can post at will without time restraints.
A few notes I forgot in the last post. The previous eldar player had the most incredibly painted army on the planet. Also 89 people were entered in CanCon and we play 8 games over the weekend so I'm not really expecting to win.
Ok here we have battle 2.
Eldar vs Chaos SQUATS
He converted all these chaos marines and what looked like scout marines with dwarf parts and painted them well so they looked awesome. Normal chaos rules of course. He was also a very friendly person so I'd have to say this was by far my best game of the day. It must be something about dwarf players that they are always jolly.
He had 3 or 4 squads of chaos marines. A squad of terminators /w a reaper autocannon and all power fists. Some bikers, TWO defilers and a pretty strong lord on a steed (this awesome mechanical spider thing). He also had some converted flying possessed squats. I also found that none of his squads had a mark of chaos either, I was going to have fun with tank shock again.
Terrain: This board was plain odd. There was an ordinary building in the centre and a whole heap of buildings with no entrances scattered around the board (they were just blocks of foam painted yellow like sand. A lot of LoS blocks here and NO cover except 1 normal building smack bang in the middle.
Deployment: The falcons were in the bottom left behind a building and the wave serpents were bottom-right behind a building. Vyper and Farseer were in the very middle but there were plenty of buildings in the way so they were relatively hidden. No infiltrate but the pathfinders had a go at scouting into the central building anyway. Didn't quite make it despite ignoring difficult terrain.
He set up a battle line of chaos squats across his deployment zone. The terrain didn't favour him at all as it turns out neither defiler was indirect. 1 defiler on the left and the other on the right. Bikes on the left and termies on the right. Possessed in the middle.
Mission: It might take me a while to explain this mission as it was weird. Objective was chain of command which meant I got bonus points for killing his HQ 1st THEN his elites then heavy support then fast attack then troops. By the end of the game it was whoever had progressed furthest down killing the chain of command won. If you didn't kill them in order you still won as long as they were dead but you didn't get the bonus points. So say I killed all his HQ and Heavy Support. I would only have gone 1 slot down the chain of command (the HQ). I can't claim the heavy support because I haven't killed the elites.
If you are 2 slots further than them on the chain of command its a major victory. 1 more and its a minor victory. Same amount (or if neither HQ is dead) then its a draw.
Chaos Squats 1
His terminators moved and fired at my vyper. Killing 1 of its shuriken cannons, shaking it and immobilising it. Nothing else could see anything. A few of his squats moved and the bikes turno-boosted down the left side of the centre building. I think he was trying to catch my farseer off guard. His lord came advancing down the right side of the building trying to ensnare a jetbike farseer somehow...
I decided to ignore the bonus points here. My army was to fragile to try and kill his army in order and I didn't want to push my luck.
He got a shock as my wave serpents crossed the whole right side of the board and finished behind a building in the top-right. Still visible to the units behind his battle line but meh. The falcons advanced 12" and poured shot after shot into the bikers, killing 2 of the 3. The pathfinders advanced into the building but couldn't wound the bikers with their pistols. The farseer did a JSJ move trying to mind war the lord but failed. Lone biker fails morale and runs screaming.
Chaos Squats 2
His line stays still and only 1 squad moves forwards into the building. He opens fire on the wave serpents but it only ends with Lance serpent getting shaken. He got a flamer onto my pathfinders and burned up 2 of them. His lord got a lucky fleet and due to its conversion it was difficult to tell if it could reach the farseer or not. If his lord managed to kill my farseer his only HQ would be left open to shooting anyway so I wasn't worried. In the end he gave up and just asked me if a charge on a 4+ would be ok rather than trying to determine if it could reach. I agreed and he rolled a 1, no charge.
Lance serpent advanced along the back of the board; unable to really do anything as the avengers didn't want to disembark just yet. Fuegan and his dragons disembarked though and I made a crucial mistake. I should have melted the terminators and let the defiler charge my meltabombs. Instead I got scared of the battle cannon on my closely packed dragons and blew the crap out of the defiler. It exploded 4", covering my dragons (a few died) and killing 1 of his nearby squats. The falcons advanced further and began chipping away at his battle line. The farseer failed once again to mind war the lord to death but Echo conveniently parked in the way, preventing a charge from him next turn.
Chaos Squats 3
He poured an enormous amount of firepower into my dragons and only Fuegan and 2 more survived. The terminators managed to pull off a charge and despite losing 1 to Fuegan all of my guys died under the power fists. He rolled a lot of 1's for his anti-tank and I came out unharmed. The lord realised he couldn't get to the farseer with his 1" fleet so he just charged Echo and didn't do any damage. A squad of chaos marines advanced into the central building but due to unlucky difficult terrain he can't charge the pathfinders.
His lord was dangerously over-extended now. I missile serpent and both falcons as well as the farseer fly over to engage him. Mind war failed but the krak missiles on the serpent instant killed him. The 1st link in the chain of command came down. Next I had to kill his Elites so that meant a lot of firepower into the terminators. The falcons got bad accuracy though and only killed 1. The vyper could finally draw range to the termies but couldn't hurt them. The Lance serpent hugged the back of the board and flew behind his 2nd defiler (both of which had done nothing this game). The avengers disembarked, bladestormed it in the rear, got 4 glances and killed it. The pathfinders killed a few of their nemesis in the building but couldn't stop them.
Chaos Squats 4
His terminators opened fire on Epsilon and shook it. The flying possessed followed in the avengers footsteps and came up close to them. He rapid-fired a lot into the avengers and he apologised when he noticed I was forced to remove the exarch, my only defence from the possessed. I'd put him at the front to guarantee it a spot in any cc but turns out it was one of the few in range. His possessed charged my 3 remaining avengers and killed them to a man. He charged my pathfinders and killed 2. The last ran away and didn't affect the game anymore.
Echo unloads its dire avengers who kill off some more of the squad in the building. Epsilon flies over just in front of the terminators to cut off any movement they might want to do. The lance serpent tank shocked the flying possessed and he rolled a double 6 for morale... that close to the edge of the board they didn't stand a chance. I apologised to him at that point as they were his last chance and I'd just cheap shotted them with luck.
Chaos Squats 5
His terminators shot at Echo again but didn't hurt it. His normal warriors didn't really have any targets. He rolled more 1's for the meltaguns and missile launchers so my tanks came through fine, a wave serpent lost its lances though. The remnants of the squad in the centre building charged my 5 avengers and killed 1. They stayed.
Whilst putting that avenger away I notice I still haven't disembarked my banshees this game. I do so now and they fleet straight into an assault with the terminators. Killing them all with some help from Epsilon. The farseer tears out his last meltagun with mind war leaving only a missile launcher and plasma gun for anti-tank.
He only has a few basic squat squads left now which my tanks chip away at a bit. His entire chain of command is dead (although not in order so no bonus points for me).
Chaos Squats 6
He has nothing in his line of sight that he can really hurt. His missile launcher misses and the cc kills another avenger and loses 1 of his own guys in return.
Chip away at a few more squats, It's only a few guns though so not many die. My avengers all get killed in the cc.
Result: His entire chain of command is dead. Not in order so I don't get bonus points but its still a major victory to me. My farseer is still alive and kicking so that means he doesn't get anything on the objective. I scored a hell of a lot of points from this mission. I have to say though his anti-tank was appalling on luck and losing his possessed bit hard. He was still friendly though so I hope he wins best sportsman.
Lessons Learned: None really. Everything did well. Keep a closer eye on whats in my tansports I guess.
Man of the Match: Well thats a tough one but I guess it goes to... my lance serpent for dropping avengers at the very back and scaring away his possessed.
Ok I'm going to take a bit of time out everyones lives and bitch about this guy right now. He was a prick. He was also an old hairy male with short shorts who smokes to much. He was stuck back in 2nd edition and despite admitting he'd never heard of a new eldar codex he still challenged me on everything anyway.
He was arguing that his tank hunters made him immune to tank shock as I tried to explain no it only meant he auto-passed the morale check. He also claimed I couldn't use skimmers moving fast in cc and that his power fists could penetrate me. When my vehicles only moved 7" he kept forgetting they had moved and kept bitching that I hadn't moved them and he could penetrate them (as if I'm that stupid with my tanks). Also since I don't use tape measures I use these long flexible plasticy tape things he kept complaining about how it was bending. Apparently a bend meant I was actually moving a few extra inches. Physics says I was actually moving 1 or 2" less than my 36" movement... He also got angry whenever I "wasted time" by measuring range and it turning out I was in range.
ok now that I'm over that lets get onto the game.
Eldar Vs. Chaos
He had a boring army consisting of 2 squads of 16 chaos marines /w 2 plasma guns each. 3 squads of 5 havocs /w 4 tank hunting missiles each. A squad of plague marines which I couldn't see any point to except rot his own army. A S10 power fisted lord thankyou very much furious charge and strength. 3 obliterators too as if he didn't have enough anti-tank. This list was almost perfectly designed to kill mine!
Terrain: there was a HUGE forest down the centre of the board. All these little sand formations everywhere else.
Deployment: All my stuff just hid behind the forest and the pathfinders scouted into it. No problem. He spread out a battle line across the whole deployment zone. Oblits right, plague marines left.
Mission: Basically Gamma seek and destroy but with no special rules.
Ok I was already annoyed at this guy so I decided to take complete control of the battle. All my tanks flew down the right side of the board and hence completely rendering a little over half his army useless for the whole game as they were static. He got quite upset at the 36" movement I was displaying. Farseer hid out of sight on the left side of the board hoping to JSJ if anything moved. Just to clarify my pathfinders spent every turn just executing krak missiles so I'm not going to detail them.
He focused everything he could onto Fuegans serpent, bringing it down and entangling them. Fuegan took a wound and a few dragons died. Nothing else did.
I got sick of his whinging that my Farseer wasn't moving so I snapped and boosted it down the left side of the board. My falcons, vyper and pathfinders had a field day executing his havocs without any meatshields. I don't think he'd quite gotten the hang of no screening. Nothing disembarked.
He wiped out my farseer with relative ease. I wasn't really expecting it to affect this battle anyway. I don't think any of my tanks got hurt. Sorry its starting to get late so my memories getting hazy. He managed to wound Fuegan with some bolters. He charged his lord into my dragon squad and massacred it, he avoided Fuegan though so it ended up as Fuegan (with 1 wound left) against his lord in a duel.
He started taunting me about not charging his obliterators with my banshees but after what happened to my farseer I just ignored him. We started getting into fights here about whether or not I'd declared tank shock and moving within 1" of his models. Eventually I gave up and just kicked in the 'ol star engines and hid again. Fuegan displayed his awesome statline and butchered the chaos lord like a hog.
He shook up my remaining wave serpent with the only krak missiles that could see me and his obliterators turned their lascannons on Fuegan, I didn't bother rules lawyering that I technically still got feel no pain and just let him die. He also started dropping frag missiles into my pathfinders and killed 1. He tried to argue blasts are templates and as such ignore cover but I put my foot down on that.
My wave serpent flies to the back of the board and unloads the dire avengers who bladestorm the tactical squad. Killing 6 I think. My falcons get terrible accuracy resulting in 1 obliterator dead.
The tactical squad turns back and after an amazing cc phase and some &%$£!@^ maneuvering from his champion to ensure he could only reach the exarch and a few others my avengers got massacred. Broke and ran, were trapped, dead. I accidently left my vyper in the open so he shoots it with the majority of his army on the left and kills both its shuriken cannons. All my pathfinders died/ran off the board turn too...
The banshees disembark and charge into cc with his tacticals. I killed the average but he got incredibly lucky again and beat my banshees back. My tanks started shooting like crazy and in the end a single obliterator was the only troop remaining that could possibly shoot me.
His tacticals defeat my banshees in cc. Obliterator does bugger all.
The last obilterator dies and the tacical squad comes down. I hide behind the forest so nothing can see me.
He can't do anything.
Result: After tallying up victory points I discovered he had won as my wave serpent didn't count for the objective. He hadn't noticed that and calculated it as a draw. I tried to point out his mistake and he got angry and told me to stop vying for more victory points and accept it was a draw. He didn't deserve a win anyway in my mind so I shut up and let him report a draw.
Lessons Learned: None. I don't think I really made any mistakes that game. I must be improving.
Man of the Match: The 5 avengers in Echo. They never disembarked the whole game and gave me those few sweet points that made it a "draw". Fuegan did kill his commander though which was good.
So my overall result for the tournament was a minor loss, a major victory and a draw. 1 Friendly opponent, 1 Brilliant opponent and 1 Turd. Well I'm happy with it all. 3 more games tomorrow and I'll hopefully report on them too.

Its a tourney list LL, can't bug me with one of those unless your trying to turn one of my friendly ones into it.
Awesome first two battle reports and damn shame about the third one. Hopefully he gets his rear handed to him very shortly by everyone or at least a powergamer or ruleslawyer.
Hope your next few battles are more along the lines of the first two...

I'm not going to do reports of day 2 as they take to long and I'm tired. I will give highlights though.
First of all I'd just like to make a comment. Tournaments are far more lenient on rules than friendly games... most people feel it isn't worth arguing with a stranger over minor points so little mistakes get by far more than if I was playing a friendly game.
Game 1 vs Space Wolves
Mission was meteor strike. Pitched battle (victory points) with a twist. We each chose 2 pieces of terrain. At the start of each game turn (so my turns) we roll a d6 for each piece. On a 5 or a 6 a meteor hits. The meteor automatically scatters 3d6" and anything under its large blast takes a S4 hit. Vehicles take 4+2d6 armour penetration (even monoliths). If you're under the hole its an ap1 hit.
The meteors were an interesting addition and ended up killing a few dragons and avengers, 1 space wolf and flattened his rhino.
He had a grey hunter squad, a wolf lord and a rhino in the top right that did nothing all the game. A huge grey hunter squad along with a hero of some kind (rune priest?) sat in the middle and dominated the game. A multi-melta long fang was never in range (I made sure of that). He had 2 more long fang squads with missiles and lascannons but without meatshields they died to the pulse lasers, banshees and starcannon. His venerable dreadnought got popped by Echo.
In assault he surprised me with so many power fist attacks. 8 power fists in 3 squads!!! Fuegan got massacred again and my vyper exploded, killing 3 blood claws.
In the 1st few turns I executed his long fangs. The later game ended up as my tanks shrugging off his firepower and my slowly grinding up his blood claws and Grey hunters. Since he still had an expensive HQ, Grey hunter squad and transport in the top left though I only got a minor victory. Oh well a wins a win.
2nd game I took on another marine army. 4 dreads, a chapter master, a termy squad and a hell of a lot of tactical marines (50?). 6 Assault cannons. Meh, they are at their worst against AV12.
This mission was quite curious. We each chose 1 of our squads to be captives and these were deployed in our opponents deployment zone. We each chose 1 squad to be guards for these. Guards couldn't move out of 12" of their captives. If all the guards died the captives were free and could act normally. Until they were free captives could never be targetted in any way. If you freed your captives you got bonus points and you got even more if they survived to the end of the game. You also got bonus points for not letting your opponents captives escape.
Oh and if you wait until last turn to free your captives (to save them from shooting) they counted as having not survived for the purposes of bonus points.
I didn't like this mission as it restricted my speed to much. I was forced to target one point and defend one point. Luckily he was fairly static. In the end I chose my pathfinders as captives and deployed them in one of his buildings so that they would survive (2+ cover).
My opponent made a mistake and deployed one of his tactical squads in cover as captives. That allowed me to deploy 5 dire avenger guards nicely out of sight where his static army would have huge trouble reaching them.
My tanks advanced on my pathfinder captives to free them and the Farseer enjoyed himself killing a dreadnought with his singing spear. The dragons killed a fair few marines and Fuegan mutilated a dread. The dire avengers brought his guards squad down to just the lascannon guy. I decided not to kill this until turn 5 so that my pathfinders couldn't be targetted. This ended up costing me a wave serpent to the guys lascannon.
Due to tactical error on his part he got stuck with 2 useless dreads and a useless tactical squad caught up in a forest on the left side of the board. Fuegan charged his tactical marines to stop the rest of his anti-tank guns coming at me. He eventually got caught by a power fist and died despite his instant kill immunity. He hasn't survived a game yet and hes my commander (worth bonus points for staying alive) >.<
His terminators deep-striked but thanks to scatter they just couldn't see my avenger guards. They were silenced by banshees and falcons before they could kill them.
My 10 man avenger squad (the ones out of lance serpent not the guards) got ripped up by rapid-fire leaving only the exarch left. The exarch broke and ran but as he ran past he bladestormed. Pulling off 2 pistol shots and killing my opponent's last guard, freeing my pathfinders (turn 5).
After a confusing time working out victory points I thought I had a minor win. He had worked it out as a draw and we redid the whole thing 3 times and discovered I had a massive win. His captives never got free from my 5 avenger guards. My pathfinders escaped his guards and survived the game.
I hadn't vsed a swarm yet and I was hoping for one of those. Naturally I got tyranids. He had a swarm of hormagaunts, a swarm of termagaunts, 1 cc fex, 2 shooty fex's, a shooty hive tyrant and some shooty warriors. 2 squads of genestealers and a lictor too. This was the 1st time in my life I was ever beaten at iniative (although Fuegan and the banshees still hit 1st).
He set up his genestealers, termagaunts and warriors to the left along with the cc fex and a gunfex. In the centre he put his hormagaunts and hive tyrant and to the right went more genestealers and another gunfex.
Epsilon went down the right side and after a few turns killed his Hive Tyrant. The vyper died immediately. Fuegans dragons went 36" straight towards his cc fex. He blew it up and left my anti-tank unit standing right in front of 90% of the entire tyranid swarm. Uh oh. After 2 turns the farseer managed to mind war a gunfex out of existence. On the right side I got unlucky and his genestealers massacred my dire avengers and howling banshees. The pathfinders chipped a few wounds off the cc fex but its damn hard burning through all FIVE wounds. ( Since when could nids do that? I thought only a c'tan had 5 wounds.
In cc my fire dragons were quickly massacred but Fuegan fought on. After many, many assault phases he had been reduced to 1 wound but he at last killed all the genestealers and the hormagaunts broke and ran. Unfortunately he didn't consolidate far enough to charge a new squad. The hormagaunts rallied upon reaching synapse and charged straight back into Fuegan. He killed 3 of them but they managed to take out his last wound.
The termagaunts and warriors didn't do much all game. They killed Echo's avengers and on turn 6 killed Echo. He spent a lot of the game desperately trying to kill my tanks but he couldn't hit them in cc.
Ah yes his lictor ambushed my farseer but my 1 attack wounded him and I absorbed all his blows on my rune armour. He died of no retreat. His cc fex finished what the lictor failed and my farseer died on turn 6 fighting alongside Fuegan.
In the end he had heaps of little bugs left and 2 carnifex's. A few warriors too. I had my lance serpent and Epsilon so I lost. Ah well.
That was the 1st game I ever vsed bugs. Thinking back on it I should have used the immortality of my vehicles and not disembarked until I was sure I could kill everything nearby.
So my record for the tournament so far is 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses. Not bad.
I also had 3 good opponents today. None of them talked much but neither do I. Everyone was friendly and polite and thats what counts so it was a fun day.
Hooray, good for 'nids.
Glad you are doing well, though.
A Carnifex normally gets 4 Wounds, but can have 5 if extra points are spent. As for only C'Tan, I think a Great Unclean One has 6 Wounds too, not sure though.
Personally as a Tyranid player I have no idea how to take out fast-moving Eldar armies - they have such a lot of firepower - so it sounds like your opponent must have known what he was doing.
For the yranid player iwould have just stayed in the vehicles and just shot at him with those seeings how he cant really hurt you and then try and isolate squads and pick em off with disembarking troops.
That was my 1st ever game against tyranids so I didn't know some finer tactics. I'll definately use their lack of firepower against them next time. I also underestimated his warriors resilience. If I had concentrated on them more than the genestealers I could have broken his synapse web by turn 3.
Ok the Final Day of CanCon. 2 games.
Game 1 Against Deathwing
He had two 6 man termy squads /w assault cannons and two 6 man termy squads /w cyclone missiles. another assault termy squad /w lightning claws and a single hammer. a librarian /w fury of the ancients and fear the darkness. He also had a hellfire dreadnought.
Mission was gamma recon. My perfect mission. The terrain was barley any but I had some size 3 to hide the wave serpents behind. No-one really paid any attention to cover except my pathfinders. I was flying and he had an invulnerable save after all so it was irrelevant.
We also rolled dawn, even better for me.
Pathfinders infiltrated into the top-right corner in his deployment zone inside some forest. My tanks lined up on the back of my board with the wave serpents hidden. His terminators all just huddled up into the centre of the board and the dreadnought got behind a low wall for obscured target.
I misjudged the distance when flying my tanks (I got 1st turn) and he got to charge. Missile serpent died. Leaving Fuegan and the 6 surviving fire dragons in the face of 20 odd termies /w assault cannons. Uh oh, well I lose them again. My vyer died to his dreadnought.
Fuegan and his dragons were quickly wiped out. Fuegan rolled all 2's to wound so they didn't kill anything before dying. The banshees charged a termy squad and died without killing a damn thing. Lance Serpent got brought down and its crew assaulted. Avengers failed morale and ran away, unable to rally.
My farseer eventually got flushed out and killed by 3 rending hits from 2 assault cannons (he failed all 4++ saves). It was just my falcons left to try and bring him below scoring and claim a massive 920 victory points by being in his deployment zone. Pity it was only turn 3 with most of my army dead...
He put 3 squads in my deployment zone and the others went hunting falcons. By the end of turn 5 my entire army was dead.
He had 2547 victory points. I had NONE. ouch! every termy squad still had at least 3 men in it.
That was my most crushing defeat ever.
Ok the game 2 and the final game of CanCon was up against... the another Deathwing player.
He had 2 hellfire dreads. A land raider crusader. a deep-striking assault cannon termy squad. A foot-slogging cyclon missile squad. Another foot-slogging assault cannon squad and a cheap assault squad with a cheap chaplain in the crusader.
Mission was Alpha Cleanse. Another good mission for me.
Terrain was again tiny. There was only 1 size 3 piece of terrain and since I got to choose quarters I got it. Hid both wave serpents behind it, everything else is in sight.
He set his crusader up on the top in a desperate attempt to stay out of my range, pfft you can't hide from eldar (and 36" moves). the missile squad went in the middle and the foot assault cannons came down the left side.
Ok well after last game's disastrous result with close range against these things I used my speed to its fullest. Epsilon zoomed along the bottom. The pathfinders moved into some good cover in the bottom-left quarter. Missile Serpent zoomed off to flush out his crusader. Lance Serpent advanced and tried to shoot the crusader but just failed range. Echo advanced down the right side.
The dragons got to safely disembark . Fuegan unattached. The logic behind this is that Fuegan would melt the tank and the dragons would melt whatevers inside. He only managed to kill its assault cannon though so the dragons had to finish it off. They were entangled at least so I had another round of shooting at them.
Both dreads were silenced by pulse lasers fairly easily. Who says eldar suck against light vehicles?
My pathfinders managed to pin the squad down the left and the banshees finished them off. Falcon fire killed a few termies but BS3 hurt here. He deep-striked an assault cannon squad into the middle of the board and turned their guns on the fire dragons, leaving 3. I told him Fuegan made them fearless and got quite a turn as he reminded me I unattached Fuegan. The 3 ran for it, no rallying for them. They did manage to melt 3 of the guys who killed them though as they ran past.
Fuegan was now faced with an angry chaplain and 7 other assault terminators untangling themselves from the wreckage. What the hell hes died every game in this tourney so far, time for heroics... he fleeted away from them. He kept running with them in hot pursuit for 2 turns until he got trapped in the corner. He turned back around and killed them all! :w00t: Chaplain died to the farseers mind war.
His assault terminators killed all my dire avengers though as they were chasing Fuegan. My biggest loss for the game. Lance Serpent had been immobilised and the chaplain hit it with 6 auto-hitting power fist attacks. It died.
So by turn 5 he had the chaplain (got mind warred by the farseer), the assault terminators (killed by a lone Fuegan), and a few stray terminators (executed by the falcons). Nothing survived beyond turn 5.
I had a everything except my fire dragons, dire avengers and the lance serpent. I controlled every table quarter and fulfilled the requirements for every bonus tourney points possible.
Hooray a massacre for me this time! take that dark angels!
So my total for this tourney was:
4 wins: (Chaos Squats, Space Wolves, Space Marines, Deathwing)
3 losses: (Eldar, Tyranids, Deathwing)
1 Draw: (Chaos Space Marines)
I don't know what placing I got just yet. I didn't get a prize though (3 losses after all).
That bad game you had against the chaos list was a guy that my group like to call "old man 40k" the game you described sounds pretty much standard for how he plays.
I was there, in your loss to deathwing on the last day I was the guy with the tzeetch on the table next to you......... I'm sure you remember the hat!!!!
And who says that tzeentch don't do close combat?? I managed to take down 2 squads of daemonettes IN CLOSE COMBAT.... with just standard thousand son marines!!!!!
SON'S OF TERRA......... Your defeat, its the emperor's will
