Yes I posted this on 40k online place this is my first post back on Librarium Online in like months maybie a year something like that.
So unexpectedly I played a 500 point game today vs black templars. I had just gone to a GW store to paint some of my Dark eldar stuff when I ran into a friend and we decided to play.
This is our lists I had one error in mine in that I thought warriors could take plasma grenades well... they can't found that out when I got home will have to apologize to him about that tomorrow since it may of changed a close combat phase. This was my first game using dark eldar and I really did not have any options to play any thing but this as this was every model I had I even used a basic warrior as a Archon just because I have yet to convert something into one planning on making prince Yriel into a archon not sure if I want him on a hellion sky board yet or not. I was slightly depressed after the game this had nothing to do with how the game went. The GW people were saying Dark eldar were completely broken and well that is pretty much every ones opinion at the store now. A few people said they wont ever play me because Dark eldar are broken none had any reason other the Games workshop guy saying it was the web way portals are to broken. So my excitement of playing Dark eldar has gone down quite a bit. Any ways onto the battle...
One more thing this game only lasted about 30mins these turns happened very fast not much really happened each turn.
1 Archon (HQ) @ 152 Pts
10 Warriors (Troops)
Splinter Rifle (x; Dark Lance (x2)
10 Warriors (Troops)
Splinter Rifle (x; Splinter Cannon (x2)
Plasma nadesx10< I now know you can't do that.
2 Reaver Jet bikes (Fast Attack)
Splinter Pistol; Blaster
1 Succubus @ Pts
Agoniser (x1); Splinter Rifle
#Reaver Jet bike
Models in Army: 24
Total Army Cost: 493
His list I think I recreated it how I thought it was
1 High Marshal (HQ)
2 Lightning Claws
1 The Emperor's Champion @
Bolter; Meltagun (x1)
There was a sergeant or something with a power fist...
Bolt Pistol & CCWep. (x4)
5 Initiates (Troops)
Bolter; Meltagun (x1)
There was a sergeant or something with a power fist...
Bolt Pistol & CCWep. (x4)
He had a vow thing to that made him run towards me when I shot at him. Other one that gave him invulnerable things to I think or it might of him getting cover saves.
This is a guess Total Army Cost: 498
Deployment this was a huge table for how small we were playing we did not use 90% of it so I am a little sketchy on how the set up was I may be able to get a picture of the table tomorrow to help show this off a little bit better but who knows probably not any ways...
So I won the dice roll and had him set up first He played what he called his crusader squad but I what I could figure out they were Initiates squad with Neophytes this squad had the emperor's champion with at the end to. But that would have been at the upper right part of the table as I had chosen the bottom left. So he put that squad as far forward as he could but slightly behind a ruined building. I placed my Warrior squad with the dark lances on this L shaped piece of terrain with a little box between the corners. He placed his other troop squad as far forward but going on the other side of the ruined building. I placed my Warrior squad hiding behind the L piece of terrain and then my jet bikes on the bottom part of the L. With how big this table was there was a lot of terrain but the only thing that really played a part was the L shaped piece in the bottom left a E shaped piece in the center These terrain pieces looked exactly like a L and E There was a box shape ruined house a little bit above the E and some trees to the Lower right of the E.
Turn 1 Black Templars
I gave him the first turn so he walks closer to me brings his squad With the Emperor's Champion close to the ruined building While the other squad and his Marshal start going south down the right side of the ruined building he had no shooting.
Turn 1 Dark Eldar
I turbo boost my jet bikes Close to the bottom of the E piece of terrain my plan here was to try and separate his army some what.
That was all my moving I wanted him to get close to me since I knew he was some kind of Close combat army.
I shot two dark lances at the Emperor's champion squad only killed one he then does his moral check then passes and runs 5inchs towards me bringing him into the ruined building.
Turn 2 Black Templars
He moves with both squads the one gets around the box building and the Emperors champion squad goes about 5" threw the difficult terrain
They still had no shooting so it became my turn.
Turn 2 Dark eldar
I continue move my Reaver jet bikes behind the trees to the right of the E shaped terrain that again was all my moving.
I shoot my splinter rifles on the reaver jet bikes at the Squad with the marshal in it but fail to do any thing to them.
Two more dark lance shots into the Initiates squad brings me a whole mighty! One kill they get 6" closer to me because of the vow. I was thinking that vow was pretty wicked with the little chance of him failing a moral check.
Turn 3 Black templars
My shooting got him completely out of difficult terrain so he runs closer to me his marshal squad follows the Emperor's champion squad he still can't shoot any thing so it is my turn.
Turn 4 Dark eldar.
This table is huge... So any ways I move my Warrior squad with the splinter cannons and my archon attached to them up a 6".
My jet bikes move up 12"
I shoot the Initiates squad and kill one more Neophytes and he makes a bunch of splinter rifle shots armor saves. I try and fleet of foot my warriors so they can charge them but only get a 3 I knew I would not be able to charge him so moved back 3"
My jet bikes shot two blaster shots and killed 2 Neophytes. He moves 2" towards the jet bikes. Bleh
Turn 5 Black Templars.
His squad with the Emperors champion moves up he detaches his Marshal and moves it towers the Emperors Champion group this rest of the Initiates go after the jet bikes
In his shooting he kills one jet bike with a melta gun and charges in killing all jet bikes but I kill two more Neophytes.
Turn 5 Dark eldar
I moved 6" with my archon and the squad Fleet of foot with them 1" Towards the Emperors champion
I shoot him with two dark lances and a bunch of splinter rifles that kill 2 more guys all together.
He moves closer to them with his cool vow and I charge him with my archon and my archon over doses on drugs and takes a wound. He could have killed 5 people but only 2 were in range so his guy with a power fist is dead yay I suppose. He makes all 3 armor saves for me out numbering him and him being fearless we pile in on him. This was the combat I used plasma nades to he would of gone first so the power fist guy may of killed some stuff here.
Turn 6 Black Templars
His Marshal moves closer and charges my squad the Initiates try to get closer every turn but they never make it to the fight so I won’t mention them any more.
Close combat his marshal charged my Archon so they were fighting each other my archon did 2 wounds to the marshal and took none in return. The emperor’s champion killed three people from the warriors squad the one Initiates did nothing my warriors did not do any thing either my turn.
Turn 6 Dark eldar
I try and move the dark lance squad down from the L shaped box thing next to it but only get a 2" for difficult terrain and 1" for fleet of foot so in total got 3 " closer to the fighting they were not going to help that close combat...
So that was my moving and I had no shooting so combat.
My Archon whiffs badly misses all his attacks on the marshal and takes a wound from over dosing on drugs the warriors continue to do nothing and his emperor’s champion kills 3 more warriors his marshal kills 2 more warriors and I make my leadership test for losing combat.
Now the game should have ended here I suppose now that I think about it but we were not counting turns we were just playing to smash things so we continued.
Turn 7 Black Templars
My archon kills the marshal and the champion kill 2 more warriors Initiates doesn’t do any thing and my warriors fail to do any thing.
I lose combat... That squad then runs away but I roll a one and they are run down ouch my archon is now dead...
Turn 7 Dark eldar.
I don't move but I shoot 2 dark lances and rapid fire splinter rifle trying to kill the emperors champion before it gets to me but all together I do nothing to those two...
Turn 8 Black Templar
Well he moves up shoots my warriors twice and kills 2 of them then charges me.
Combat I manage to inflict one wound on the Emperors champion but he kills 3 warriors and I fail my leadership test and go running.
Turn 8 Dark Eldar
These last turns sure went fast I was able to rally my warriors and do nothing...
Turn 9 Black Templar...
He gets threw the difficult terrain and charges my warrior squad kills 3 of them and I do nothing in return. I fail my leadership test and they run they can't rally because they are below half but they would have run off the table they were like 2" away. Game over...
Ending game Units on the Board Black Templar
I think it was 5 Initiates and one neophyte from the one squad and One initiate from the other plus the Emperors champion. If the game ended on turn 6 it would of been pretty boring with him spending most of his time moving closer to me Then again turn 7-9 was me just being beat back horrible Turn 6 I still had a chance but turn 7 losing my archon and warriors really changed the way the game was in that one instant.
So I lost pretty badly but it was a fun game His Black Templar were pretty cool I wanted to have pictures for my first Dark Eldar games but sadly this was a bit surprising that I played I was not expecting to play any games today since I have so little models. This is I think my first battle report I have ever wrote and I am not sure why I did it I really wanted to have pictures for my games ah well. I suppose from now on I will bring my digital camera but I would like some advice if any one read this far down lol. How should I go about asking people to take pictures it usually takes time out of a game so is there a good way to take pictures and not ruin a game to much? I don't think I got how this game got across very well but I had a lot of fun even with the loss I liked how my archon was tearing stuff up learned I probably should detach him in combats so he doesn’t run away with every thing else though. I probably would have been better off using my jet bikes to fight with my archon then running them trying to distract as well.
As well if I play tomorrow I think I will change up my list some I am getting a raider tomorrow so those 10 warriors would be like 8 with a splinter cannon and my archon would be in there as well as a Sybarite with a Agoniser. It is not really my expectation to play these low point games but hey if I do I will get in as much gaming as I can. So does any suggestions for writing these reports? I think my deployment description might have been bad but the table was a pain to write down how big it was and how none of it really had a meaning. There were lots of little trees and pieces. He pretty much took a direct route to me and my shooting was making him get to me all that faster it was probably worth it for him to take such a direct route to me.

I am sorry the games workshop guys were jerks, they are angry because they do not feel the love of a woman.
Good luck with dark eldar, they are a really cool idea. Plus they have skimmers.
Good report, definately a raider will help you stay out of cc with the emperors champion. (see the FOF tactica for Tau, it works for you as well)
Basically it involves rapid firing under your skimmer and not being assaulted in return.
Turtles For the Turtle God!
Shells For the Shell Throne!
Wow, the GW employee sounds like a bit of a dick. Oh well, don't let it discourage you, it sounded like quite a good batle report, may I suggest something though? The Animus Vitae is completely useless against SMs becuase of "And they Shall Know no Fear."
Ed Gein+Screech= Emperors' children
The dark eldar are just seen as broken because of there speed and a certain 2 + invulnerable save and the ability to take on just about anything. Just wait till you play a stacked deamon prince, then you can yell cheese back at him.

Yea, dark eldar are not broken at all, if they did not have those toys they would be terrible, only fast but no hitting power. Also your bt friend kind of deceived you, he only gets to do the advancing thing when he passes morale so you need to kill 25% before he does that, also it is not a vow, all Templars get it. Good game though.
2009 Tourny records (W-L-D) (20-4-4):
9/56, 1/12, 2/14, 4/14, 32/82, 1/6, 16/72
"Why me?" Gideon begged, falling to his knees.
He looked pleadingly at the Haemonculi who regarded him with a twisted smile. As the door slammed shut, Gideon could hear Vect's laughter echoing off the walls of the corridor beyond, the Dark Lord's voice carried into the torture chamber:
About the Animus Vitae though I did not know that is how it worked. After that battle though the Archon seemed to do just fine smashing them to bits on 3s with the other junk he had. I was trying to get up to 500 points with the Animus Vitae, so might of been hard filling that with something else since I did not have any thing else.. I am not too worried about the GW guy getting a few people not wanting to play me I have quite a few friends there that will plus there are all the arrogant people that are there that I can get games from.
Fairly decent battle report you made there. I would give it maybe 4/5.
Dont let the shitstains get you down as they no nothing, they are scared og a little variety in peoples armys and will automatically react to new thing with arguments against cheese.
They dont know that DE are insanely hard to play. 8pt models with a 5+ save and havent gotten an update in over 5 years and it wasnt even a proper update. The models look like they were carved with someones jonhson with the exception of the talos, witches and warp beasts(who rock by the way).
Trust me on this one. You will play Dark Eldar and you will LOSE again and again, time after time. Myself and one other player in my local store play DE and It took around 50-60 losses before we really understood the army and became in-tune with it and after that we started winning nearly ever game we play. There is now way to quicken up the process of learn DE except by doing more and more playing. Also you automatically win about 25% percent of games because lots of players go ''Dark Eldar, who are they?' or ''phh, it's only Dark Eldar'' so keep at it and dont give up playing them because they are a very rewarding and challenging army to play. Just remember that Havocs suck!
It's quite a good battle report, fairly entertaining.
You're unlucky that your store has that general view about dark eldar, I was very fortunate to have the exact opposite, everyone said they sucked and I made a name for them, now my dark eldar are rightly feared, but eventually I ended up being in the same situation as you with people crying cheese for no apparent reason which got me down also and sent me off hobby for quite a while. I have other stores to go to though, I visited another one time and immediately some kid I didn't know what saying how my army sucked so all is not lost, if there is another local store (not as local but still local) then you may still be in buisness. Unfortunately there is no reasoning with most of these people and the only way to prove them wrong is to lose deliberately repetetively which is no fun. Dark eldar aren't overpowered, people just don't know how to fight against them since they're so used to fighting other marines, eventually people get used to them and become worthy opponents. Eventually. They'd have to play you around 10 times first, which is the hard part. I swear that dark eldar's biggest advantage isn't it's weapons, it's wargear, it's speed or anything else like that, it is simply that nobody knows how to beat them untill they've tried enough. Then they get the hang of it afterwards, but most people don't get up to that stage, they just give up and complain. Tell them to grow up, it takes balls to play dark eldar. Good luck, capture many slaves on your future raids.I have to disagree on several regards. Dark eldar warriors being 8 point and 5+ armour means nothing, compare them to guardians, they are 8 points with 5+ armour and far inferior in just about every way. I quite like some of the dark eldar models like hellions, incubi, vehicles, talos etc... but think that warp beasts are some of the worst and it is generally accepted that wyches are some of the most hideous current models in the GW range, tied with mandrakes and such... I like the warrior torsos and arms and weapons but I only like 1 head and 1 set of legs, if they were all like that then they'd be awesome. I mean, space marines, tau and eldar all have pretty much the same helmets and stuff so I don't see why dark eldar can't.Originally Posted by dante12191
As for losing time and time again, firstly I think you may be exaggerating a little with the 50-60 games, because to me that's unheard of, most people consider themselves experts by then, secondly, some dark eldar players start winning straight away I won the first few games, lost one, then kept winning for the rest with an exception here or there.
To the original poster, you don't to lose 20 games with dark eldar to get them, you can get them after 3 or 5 games or even straight away, I can tell you that hearing the advice and tactics of expert dark eldar players improves your game ten-fold. Even just general stuff like always keep your warriors inside or hidden by cover, never show your raiders to the enemy untill they've delivered their cargo, always use transports, don't use this and that wargear. 40konline has the biggest dark eldar community I have ever seen and has heaps of experts. (LO is clearly better though :shifty: and friendlier .)
